Paying for Manga.
Do you buy manga?

I buy some manga and read scanlations. If certain manga get licensed in English, I will definitely buy them, though this doesn't refer to all the scanlations I read.
You never reread them? Never? It never occurred to me, as someone who also buys manga for the art, that there are people who would never look over the same thing twice.

I simply can't afford to buy Manga. Plus I never reread them so it be a waste. You never reread them? Never? It never occurred to me, as someone who also buys manga for the art, that there are people who would never look over the same thing twice.

I buy my manga, but not my doujinshis. Really its hard to fap and turn pages at the same time.
That's true, very true.

Guess I never actually answered this Topic. :D
I mostly read the mangas off the Internet.
But once in a while, I buy a few series, just in case when i'm on the road or when the internet gets cut off (occasionally happens to me).

I've bought manga series that had a title I liked, and a translation that I liked as well. I'm old-school enough to be picky about how the characters "sound", anyway. :P OTOH a lot of good manga never gets picked up by the companies over here, so if a good 'un like High School of the Dead gets scanlated, so much the better. I don't care too much about translations of doujinshi, since a lot of it is fairly straightforward in what is occurring. ;)

I don't buy Manga in America. I mean, come on, 7-11 dollars for a volume? That's insane in my opinion. I order them from Korea, since it's only 3.80 each volume.

only manga series i have ever bought: battle royale, Hellsing. these two i have bought because i really like them. as for other mangas, especially naruto, with so many volumes it's just more economical and useful to just watch the scantalations online.

I mostly read scanlations, but I still do own quite a lot of actual manga, and I buy them when I have the chance.
The main reason I read scanlations instead of just buying the stuff is because a lot of what I read isn't worth buying. I read Naruto, and enjoy it a bit, but I would have never started reading the series if I had to buy every single volume. It's past 30 volumes in America now, isn't it?
Genshiken, on the other hand, I do buy, because 9 volumes isn't too bad. Same with some other series that have less than 20 total volumes.
I watched the anime of Hikaru no Go last year and started reading the manga recently (scanlations, I mean). Yesterday I read 3 volumes, and the day before that I read 5. If I'd been buying the volumes, I would have already spent over $100 in less than a week. Well, kind of. I'm past America's releases now. Anyways, I don't have $100 to spend a week on manga.

Read a lot of scans but owning manga is great too. Actually having it in your hands and reading it whenever you want is great. I only buy if it worth it. Also I buy from taiwan so 2 US dollars per book only.

I read the scanalations if they extend farther than the current released series, and then I buy the manga. This is true mainly for Negima.Im like you, i love the negima tankobons more then the online scans, cos it feels better readin it in ur hands plus its better quality and bonus pagse afterwards.
I also buy manga when some series onlie are not continuin in a fast rate like princess ressurrection.

Scanlations, I find, generally have better translators than the companies do. On the down side, the quality's not so great, and I have to sit in front of a computer screen to read them.
So, it's about half and half. :P

I agree with you guys. ^^ having it in your hands is a completely different feeling (if you really like manga). But the price is what keeps me (and many people) away. I live in europe and its hard to get stuff here (not counting ordering from outside, wich wouldve cost a ridiculous amount of money, since I dont buy those many mangas at a time).
I like to support the business, but I wish it could be easier on the wallet :? And, I more easily get a game than a manga- since a game is only 3-4 times more expensive, but gives me alot more hours of entertainment.

I only read scanalations as the only manga being sold in my country are mainly translated into chinese (which I can't read). The ones that are in english are released randomly. Plus they only bring in like 20 copies or something and it disappears within a day. They are also fucking expensive 7.50 for 1...
