No, the OP fails because he missed the whole point of the show. The ending was NOT supposed to be climaxing, nor was it supposed to have a closure (unrelated to the second season).
To OP - Try watching a few dozen more animes, and then re-watch K-ON.

K-ON is a guilty pleasure. We all watch it, but in retrospect the series is not that good at all. It's mediocre at best. I can think of many slice-of-life animes that are better, yet the characters are enough to endear us to keep coming back for more.
I'm not trying to be fanboyish here, but why is it that the show is 'mediocre at best'?
