Huh? I don't quite get it. Its really first season.
I want to read the second season of the story because I am getting spoiled all over the place. o_o
To Aru Majusu No Index Season 2 is running quite slow. Still Peter's crucifix arc. I want to read more than that.
Edit: I just realized that I should be reading the Light Novel instead. XD

So does the fact that Touma lost his memory at the beginning of the series ever become important again? It seemed like it should be a big deal, but it barely came up that often, and even the last time it did, it was just allowed for some minor confusion-comedy in the Angel Fall arc.

It was not ignored, Touma kept it a secret so it's a secret.
There's no one ATM that knows that Touma has lost his memories, except Heavens Canceler (Frog Face Doctor). And No one currently knew the difference between The original Touma and the Lost memories Touma. Eventually some people will notice but it's still a long way from the current anime series.
Tl;dr
It's not ignored, it's been save for last.
The World War III arc is the latest and there's no continuation YET from that current Volume.

From the pace of things. I'd say that the current season will cover two more arcs after the latest one which finished with episode 13.
The next arc is pretty short, only one novel. And then the one after that which spans two of them.
And I can definitely say I'm more than willing for the second of those arcs

Skill Out's Level 0 Hamazura Shiage with the negotiating materials pertaining to the Darkness he acquired in Russia has returned and formed the new ITEM with Kinuhata, Takitsubo and Mugino and began their operations. Peace has come to the hands of the alumnus of Academy's Dark Side at last.

As for novels... (Major spoiler; don't open for those still reading the novels and watching the anime.)
[spoil]My friend gave me a detailed account of the novels and up Vol 22 and my heart broken that Touma (supposedly) won't be around (not that he could survive the chilling cold and ocean pressure). Inb4 I start assuming crap, lol. Anyway, this is some awesome news, although wonder if New Testament is going to be a brand new series apart from the end of vol 22.
Oh, well continue waiting the anime for now. Seems like there is only three more episodes left in this season according to ANN and myanimelist.
