Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's
1
I'm not surprised there's no discussion thread for this anime. The entire Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise is looked down upon in the Western Society anyway, and especially 5D's. I mean, dueling on Motorbikes? I facepalm'd when I first heard. I thought they've gone insane.
But after checking out a few eps a few months ago, I realized that this is possibly the best Yu-Gi-Oh! series ever made, and is a very good anime even by itself compared to others. The characters, storyline, everything - was fairly good. I finished Season 2 last week with a huge smile on my face. This is one highly entertaining anime. :)
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's takes place decades after the events of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. All the main characters from previous series are nowhere to be seen. Don't know if they're dead or not.
The game of Duel Monsters has changed; a new addition has been introduced to the future of dueling as seen in 5D's: "Turbo Duels". These duels are played in giant stadiums, and duelists ride motorcycles with built-in duel equipment known as "Duel Runners". Domino City has also changed, under the guidance of the head of its public maintenance bureau, as well as the new Director of Kaiba Corporation, Rex Goodwin. Rich and powerful people live in what is now known as "Neo Domino City", while the poorer class are shunned and live mostly in the slums area, known as "Satellite". They are referred to in the Japanese version as "Satellite scum" (kuzu) by the inhabitants of New Domino City.
An aspiring duelist from Satellite, Yusei Fudo, builds his own Duel Runner, but is betrayed by his best friend, Jack Atlas, who steals his Runner and his most precious monster, the Stardust Dragon. While Jack battles his way to the top and becomes Duel King, Yusei is forced to live on in Satellite. Two years later, Yusei has built another Duel Runner, and sets out to win back his Dragon and regain the bonds he once had with his friend.
For convenience, here are the complete first two seasons, subbed by TnKP.

I watched this when it started but I'm so far behind now that the dub is probably ahead of me.
But it's pretty good I guess.

i have sworn to never again watch a yugioh series. tha last one i have seen was GX and i am glad i didn´t finished it. it always the same shit anyway, they duel each other in different ways and thats pretty much the problem of this anime series.
the only real content of each series is two or more guy dueling each other using cards.....and now you have to come up with all kind of retarded idea to still make this shit interessting even after the 10th billion time.
so we have motorbikes, pharaos, evil guy taking over the world (with just cards !?)
and so one.
the only thing good that come from this series are the doujin that involve the girls

yugiho was a good series "worth the watch" I personally thought it was just to make fun of pokemon and all the little kids playing with pokemon cards.
yugiho gx was "not worth the watch"
5D's "... not going to bother"

I am sure different people would think otherwise but... i dont like 5D I am one of those haters that think yugioh died Midway through GX. HOwever I AM impressed by their ability ot drive a motorcycle and duel at the same time

I liked the original yugioh series, but gx ruined it for me. I checked out 5d though. I think its okay, but having them duel on motorcycles seems to be a bit much. Where did they get that idea in the first place?

I also thought dueling on motorcycles might have been too much but after watching a couple of episodes, I actually liked it. Though I stopped watching after season 1 because of school. I have yet to find time to continue watching.

well I am going to continue watching it in jap and usa but the dub is very bad T_T but at least its kinda better at least to GX.

The bike theme was introduced in conjuction to the new Speed Duel. A permanent Field Magic, Speed World is in constant effect and only cards with "Speed Spell" can be used (other Spell Cards used while it's on the field will yield in 1000 LP of damage to the user). From what I can remember, I think Duel Terminals actually have Speed Duels.

Watching this and still into it.
I think its a pretty good series.
I think the bike idea was kinda ridiculous too but it's balanced with normal standing duels.

Haven't really followed a yugioh series since the original. The story of GX was just lame. And when I heard that they were dueling on motor bikes, my first impression was what the fu**. But after reading some comments here, maybe I will give it a go.
