I see some people unsure whether they should buy 'Hanafuda' due to it featuring underage characters. I've come across this...

https://i.imgur.com/n2Az41k.jpg

...which is a guide of sorts explaining where it is and isn't legal in the US. I'm unsure how accurate this chart is, but if you live in a red or yellow state you might want to make sure. I've heard of people being arrested for owning loli stuff in the past, but I also remember seeing a TV show where a guy arrested had loli pictures and the officer stated that since it was a drawing it wasn't illegal. It really is a case by case basis on if it's okay or not.

Personally, I'm not sure how I feel about it. They are just drawings and a drawing can not be hurt emotionally or physically. But I also don't look at loli stuff because it feels wrong to me. The drawings may not be real, but that isn't really the problem. It's the idea behind it. I'm not here to pass judgements, but it's such a grey area. It's especially difficult when considering art styles. I've seen hentai of characters that are over the legal age drawn in a way that they look underage and vice versa.

'Hanafuda' does look beautiful in its art style. It doesn't even come across as a book that is meant for fapping, but for the art and story. In the end I guess it's a personal opinion.

That pic ought to be stickied!
Yea, I already knew the current State I live in was a red state. I had taken some risks regardless (No partyvan yet). I do plan to move to a blue State in the near future...fuck this state really 😅

Yeah but that doesn't mean anything. Your book is in the mail so the state doesn't mean shit. Feds own the air and mail routes. That most likely only follow possession. They only check your package on suspicion of a crime not just to see what your sending. When Ben gives them the package he states it a book/shirt/ect. 99.9% of the time they don't even check outside x-raying it. Plus fakku store has a business license so it doesn't even click for a criminal act would be committed. Importing on the other hand is more wary.

But with that the book is about fox girls and mystical people... that stuff can be square way with 'Chick is older then what she looks like elfs and fairies.' If this was The Light of Tsukimi Manor then i would be wary.

Yea, importing is my main concern. I managed to get some loli manga while I was living in NY, but I hold off on ordering loli manga from Japan in my current State for fear of partyvan....

Here are some pictures of the Japanese paperback, I wanted to give everyone an idea of what the size of the book looks like in comparison to Renai Sample.

Well... bought. Couldn't resist Oni Lolis.

Oh by the way, for those that are wondering about buying it, I'll be honest, I never knew there was underage characters when I read it. So it's not really apparent.

I've been really curious about this title, so I looked some of it up online and you're right. I didn't really read it carefully or look at more than 20ish pages, but from what I saw it wasn't apparent to me either. It feels like an homage to Japanese Woodblock prints, which were often violent and sexual.

I'm really on the fence about buying this one. I was immediately interested after seeing the art on the front page, but I don't know how I feel about it having underage characters. I probably wouldn't have even known if it wasn't in Jacob's original post.

What are we using as a definition for underage even? 'Renai Sample' had characters who were, I believe, said to be 16 years old. That's underage here in the states.

So, from printing perspective, this is very unique work to be printed (even paper qual seems to be different from what I'm seeing it)

I'm excited

According to Jacob, it's legal everywhere so the picture I posted is wrong. I doubt anyone would get in trouble with owning the book or any books featuring loli, but it is something that's always bothered me about the community. Some people consider it on par with child pornography. Many people are even joking about the FBI and the partyvan in this thread. While I don't necessarily agree that it's child porn I can see the moral dilemma it presents. There's also this paranoia I have with loli. Hentai is great, but many people outside of the Anime/Manga/Eroge community see us as pedophiles. It's sometimes hard to enjoy any of this stuff without having a lingering fear that I could get in trouble with the law or be seen as a pedophile. In fact, being in trouble with the law isn't my main concern. I don't want to be a pedophile period. The arguments against loli aren't something I completely disagree with.

I have NO problem with anyone buying this book, nor do I want to come across as trying to start a moral crusade against Fakku. They should sell this book if they want to. I support Fakku in selling this book. It looks beautiful and any author involved with making 'No More Heroes' is okay in my book. I just feel this is a topic that's almost always pushed under the rug. We would be kidding ourselves to say people don't view us negatively. I don't know if I'm saying all this in the right thread, but it's a topic I've thought a lot about.

My SD response to you, spoilered out of respect to the on-topic thread:
Spoiler:
I really appreciate reading these concerns of yours and I think it's very important to have open, adult, and logical discussions regarding these topics as they do cover quite sensitive issues.

I tend to relate the attraction to hentai in general to that of a matter of attraction that we, those who enjoy consuming it as a media, have little choice over the matter. I consider it a lot like being gay. If you are gay and you love and are attracted to the same sex, you can try to suppress those feelings, but you cannot help being wired to respond more positively to certain aspects of the same sex. It is not your fault you are gay. If you are gay, then you just are gay and you can accept it and be gay or suppress it and hide out of fear.

I love hentai. My siblings find it appalling and definitely look down on me for my tastes, but we obviously don't make it a topic of discussion because it's none of their fucking business what gets my rocks off and if it bothers them more than it bothers me than it's obvious who the insecure ones are. Nonetheless, you carry a strong point that we are perceived negatively. I doubt that will ever change, but if anyone were to judge me and tell me that my tastes are invalid, then I would call into question their sick and twisted sense of justice. People will always be different from each other. Anyone that demonizes another for a sexual preference that they have little control over is a massive asshole. That kind of judgment is something the world can do without.

About pedophiles, it is not at all illegal to be a pedophile. Pedophilia is a sexual attraction to 'pre-pubescent' children. There are many pedophiles that are normal members of society, open about it, and acknowledge that to ever act on those inhibitions would be wrong. I respect these people because they must be forced to live in a world going through a difficult struggle where they cannot control their attraction, yet find the strength never to act on it. Segueing that into loliconism, I really feel that UK case against Hoque was complete and utter bullshit, nearly draconian. That judge clearly ruled from their bias. I really want to support that guy's cause now. There is no harm or shame in being interested or attracted to lolicon hentai.

A lot of people use several arguments to defend their tastes of lolicon, like that it doesn't depict real children so it wasn't produced by defying the rights of another living, breathing, human being. I heard one person on Fakku say that they aren't attracted to children, per se, as much as they are attracted to cute art and sexual situations between cute characters. Another is more of a distracting excuse that it's better that pedophiles look at porn of fake children rather than exercise their temptations on real children. Although I find that this argument is a distraction because there is no way to prove that someone would have committed a crime if not for lolicon. The criticisms that lolicon contributes to pedophilia are a lot like the argument that violent video games contribute to the actions of mass murderers. A lot of people make that claim, but there simply is no defining evidence to support such a notion.

Anyway, I think one of the greatest aspects of pornography as a whole is its ability to depict fantasies. A lot of people fetishize about rape (which actual rape is of course illegal) and their is porn of it to satisfy that fetish, though that porn is not illegal. However, this is a shaky and distracting grounds to base one's argument off of. It is distracting because you're pointing to another case and saying that it is allowed there so why isn't it allowed here? In truth, I find that the best arguments find legitimization on its own feet. That's how I defend my interest in hentai. It is a fetishism, without a doubt, but is it a paraphilia? I don't think so. A lot of hentai manga depict stronger paraphilic content, as we well know, but that is obviously dependent on the title in question.

If there is anything that the sexual revolution and advent of the tremendous technological advancements of the 21st century have shown us is that people are sexual creatures and each individual has a very unique and interesting preference in sexual matters and erotic content. Instead of lambasting the tastes we judge to be immoral, we should instead search to understand and learn from them and from each other. That's my take on it.

On topic: I initially thought of this as not that appealing and too niche for my tastes, what with a chapter about a massive shota homosexual orgy, it appears—not that there's anything bad about that, I would probably still read through it anyway, though it wouldn't affect me in much a way personally—but if this has a good story, then I might consider picking this one up. As everyone else seems to be noticing, the art is simply beautiful.

A question: We can see that each chapter is dedicated to a specific set in the card game, so how much of these are short stories and how much of it is committed to Izuna's and the fox-girl's tale fighting this oni?

I'm guessing if you upgrade to the physical version you lose your digital copy? Will probably get both if that's the case

You'd still have your digital version. We've had a lot of success with the digital copy coming free with a physical copy. It gives you something to read online (and an easier fap format) while you wait for your physical copy to arrive in the mail.

So if you preorder the digital version and there's enough demand we can get permission to print the book. When and if that happens we'd allow users to upgrade an additional $10 (the normal $19.95) to get their book.

Users who hadn't purchased anything yet would be able to still purchase just the digital version for $9.95 or the bundle of $19.95.

In that case, expect a pre-order from yours truly. :)

The kind of dedication that Okama is putting forth is worth supporting. Always happy to see an artist go as far as update his artwork for his world-wide audience.

It's one single story throughout the book (following Izuna and the fox girl). There are no "filler" or unrelated chapters.

Is there any real danger with owning something like this digitally or physically in the United States?

I just learned that Okama also worked on the Densha Otoko opening! He keeps getting even more badass the more I learn about him.

And here's a cool video of him on Japanese TV doing a drawing tutorial.

No, it's not illegal within the United States and above all else it's very tasteful, so like others have stated while there are minors in the story, it's tastefully done to where it's not distracting if it's not your cup of tea. And if it is your cup of tea, then this is some fancy ass tea.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the digital copy and or download isn't out yet? We'll have to wait until what was it, April?

Alright thanks for the reply Jacob. I do want a physical release so I'll preorder soon since we need to support the digital release before anything else.

Vanilj Vanilla makes right.
If I buy this I will commit a crime according to the laws of my country, since it contains openly underage characters. which is a shame, since I had planned to buy all books released by Fakku.

Due to being in Australia I won't be buying a physical copy of this, may consider digital. Checked the Australian Import Laws for pornography, and it pretty explicitly states (multiple times) that it doesn't allow anything depicting anyone under 16...

It kind of sucks because I've bought all the other books so far, and Okada sounds like a cool guy I'd like to support given the extra effort he put in for this.
