I have no problem paying for online services. I pay for a music service, I pay for multiple video streaming services, I pay for content creation and up until now I have paid for Fakku.
What I do have a problem with is paying for a "premium account" yet stil feeling like a second-class citizen. More and more I've noticed when I come to this site the content I happen to click on from the front page or my personal notifications is beyond a paywall. For me, a paying customer. That is not ok.
It's especially bad when you consider how expensive the premium subscription on this site is. The endless music library with more content than I could listen to in a hundred lifetimes costs less than half per month compared to what Fakku charges. The video streaming services I pay for are similiarly around half of Fakku and the content creators who do it as a full time job all ask half or even less of what Fakku asks for. Adobe Photoshop which used to be a ~1300€ software but transitioned to a cloud-based subscription model costs one euro less per month than Fakku does.
I understand it's a smaller market and the price must be adjusted to make this operation even somewhat profitable. After all everybody listens to music but not many read manga or hentai in the west. However you cannot just ignore how the consumer feels and if they consider their investment worthwhile. Having paywalls on top of paywalls is frankly put "bullshit". I'm aware there exists tons of content on this site available simply with the subscription but it's not so much about any lack of content but the negative user experience when they see something they like yet are barred from it despite having already paid for the service.
I wish all the best for your attempts to work with artists and bring good quality content over to the west, but with your current pricing model I simply cannot justify paying for this service anymore. If you were to ever reconsider it and include all the content with a subscription like most if not all other subscription-based services handle things I'd be the first to re-subscribe.

Not sure what you're complaining about. Do you mean not having access to the books? Because, you know, subscription and books are completely separate things. And it's already been mentioned in the past that the current price point for the subscription is 1) Partially due to the fact that Fakku is a small company and not Steam or Netflix and 2) Barely making a profit as is after paying the employees and Wani and the artists.
It's fine if you don't want to subscribe, but they're only going to add more magazines to the subscription and increase its value without increasing the price.

Well, they have to earn profits in order to develop and make more contents.
There are reasons why DVD/BD are so expensive in Japan, because they serve a small market which specifically targets Otaku. A volume usually contains only 2 episodes and it costs more than 40 bucks. While with the same price, you can buy a whole series anywhere besides Japan.
I think Fakku should make more "free" events like last time to promote their services. The more users they have, the lower the price their service can get.
I do agree that the current price is just too expensive, they should make everything available with no extra cost for books and doujins for subscribers. Or if I pay $17 AUD per month (almost equal to 1/3 of my monthly internet charge), I'd expect AT LEAST 3-4 new chapters EVERYDAY.
At the current state, I only subscribe every 3-4months to read a bunch without wasting my money.
More magazines? As far as I can see they only cover like 5% of these magazines(Shitsurakuten and X-Eros). There are a fuck tons out there. With the current price I won't subscribe monthly with only 2 magazines they're covering and charge more for books/doujins.

Because, you know, subscription and books are completely separate things. But they aren't. The book and non-book content is treated exactly the same by the site in the listings. They're mixed in together on the front page, they're mixed in together when you do a search, they're mixed in together in the notifications you get. There is no difference between the message you get when "there's a new upload in a category you like" or "there's a new book in a category you like". So no, they aren't completely separate.
Separate would mean you had to click to go into the "books" section of the website or even list those in a different URL. So don't say they're separate when they're very purposefully mixed in with the regular content to get premium users to buy them.

And even then, some of the book's contents were published in magazines and subscriber were able to read.
Once the book came out, they just make those chapters unavailable and you have to buy the book in order to gain access to these contents you used to be able to read before.
I understand why the price is so expensive but I'd expect the service to be as quality as the high price. Quite disappointing.

Books are not treated exactly the same, the main page has everything that comes out displayed but the books and magazines do have their own respective sections. This is for people who only want to see the subscription available chapters, and for people who only want to buy books because they are book collectors.
Exclusive FAKKU Subscription Section
Exclusive FAKKU Books Section
With the books you also have the large distinction of downloading said chapters, because the license to acquire those chapters is not the same license as the magazine subscription.
The contract they have started with Comic Kairakuten 2015-06, Comic X-Eros #30, and the recently aquired Comic Shitsurakuten 2016-04, it includes those magazines and the magazines going forward not backwards. So the only way to acquire the older magazine chapters is through book licenses.
This is the exact same way it works with everyone else in the business including Shonen Jump. They have the weekly shonen jump magazine come out every week but when you buy a 1 year subscription it doesn't include the previous magazines like FAKKU subscription does and it doesn't give you access to their library of manga either.
Also last thing I wanted to point out is the FAKKU Books started before the magazine subscriptions, therefore they are 100% completely 2 different things.

It is true that their were problems when this originally ocurered with Hamao's book but they have found a small way around it for now.
If you take a look at Gujira's Page you will see 2 of the same Chapters appear One is for subscribers, whereas The other is for people who purchase the book
They haven't taken the chapter away it is still available to the subscribers who have access to it because of which magazine it debuted in.
Another example is the key book of you go to Key's page you will see that there are 2 of the Salt Peper Chocolate chapters one with the book imprint label and one with no label meant for subscribers.
Also with what you were talking about before at the moment FAKKU has access to 3 magazines not 2. Comic Kairakuten, Comic Shitsurakuten, and Comic X-Eros, and if right now FAKKU started a 3-4 daily upload then they wouldn't make it a full month at that pace they would run out of backlog sooner rather than later, and we would have to sit on our hands for the new magazines to be released in Japan. Once they aquire their 4th magazine they may be able to move into 2-3 releases a day, and they are already releasing 3 chapters on the weekend sometimes, but they also need to test it somewhat make sure they can handle that addition output at a higher pace.

Hench why the japanese otakus are torrenting in massive amounts ripped raws and why the japanese companies are filling the C&D letters and maybe the mysterious DDoS on a few torrent sites.

That amount the same price if you bough those two magazines in the 7-11 anywhere in japan. Except they're three magazines out of 10-11 non yaoi/trap/yuri/femdom we get for 12.95$ or 17 aud. Hell the uncensored art and translations are free at this point. Hell before this my bill for commissions and importing was over 50-100$ a month depending on the tank in question.
Also for the main question. There a big red bar titled 'Fakku book'. Just don't click on that and modoka won't NTR you.

But they are. The books have all the sound effects translated and edited in for every page of every chapter. The books have high res, DRM-free downloads, and even the chapters in the books that are available from the subscription have slightly different translations than what are in the books (perhaps because the book team had more time to analyze nuances and weren't under as much a deadline).
So, the book chapters are different from the subscription chapters. Also, I bought Heat Alert and liked the ease of access to the new chapters from the main page. The chapter says "Fakku Book" on it; it's pretty obvious what it is.

"There are slight differences that hardly matter at all for the vast majority of users" is not the same as "completely separate".

The content you're currently subscribed to still far outweighs the Books in terms of content. The Book uploads we're getting at the moment are all by MEME50, and each chapter is part of a larger collection. Heat Alert: Announcement for example is part of Heat Alert. You can't buy the chapters individually, so I think the idea is that they're being treated as mini announcements that new chapters have been released for that Book for those who have purchased it, and provides more exposure to those who haven't.
With the way tag and artist subscription notifications work at the moment, everyone gets those announcements whether or not it's something they can access, which also applies to nonsubscribers who have no access to content at all. But it's easy to tell the difference between Books and subscriber content on the front page by the big red "FAKKU Books" sign, so Book content should be easy to ignore from there.
>It's especially bad when you consider how expensive the premium subscription on this site is.
A tenner/month is actually quite cheap compared to most other subscription services, at least in the UK. If you consider the price they can charge for this shit in Japan, it's a steal.
To me it seems like you don't actually have an issue with the Books as they are, just that they're presented to you and appear in searches when you don't have access to them.

You must see it this way: the subscription chapters are like the "regular" product fakku offers and the books are like bonuses to those who want to get content (legally) that wouldn't get released (legally) as part of the subscription, because the content is from before fakku got a deal with publishers or is from a magazine we don't have access to. Right now most chapters of each book release are content we previously either didn't have or were released as illegal scanlations.
I for my part am glad to being able to buy the books and would do so twice or three times a month...
And if you want to see a shitty concept, check out project h. There you must pay for the print and the digital book (which means you pay twice for exact the same) and the book quality is worse than the one of fakku. They did improve the quality of their works (at the beginning the paper was like ukrainien toilet paper), but it's still not fakku niveau (and I didn't even mention their translation and censorship policy). I bought some of their books, but only on sales were every book goes for three bucks and only because I wanted them really bad. If there was an announcment that fakku eats project h and re-releases every book they have with the fakku standard I would - to quote Rollo Lothbrok - in joy dance naked on the beach...

Unfortunately, adult content is always more expensive for everyone involved, since there are additional fees that non-adult services don't have to pay. This is why comparing a Fakku subscription to a Netflix subscription isn't a fair comparison. If you instead compare it to most adult subscription services, you'll find that it's fairly cheap (excluding perhaps some that are based on piracy). Most adult services cost $20-25/month, and I believe that's where ours would end up as well if we were to include books into the fee. As for the cost of the subscription, this is what I've said about it in the past:
We're thinking about including books into the subscription service in one way or another, but just making it part of it isn't possible without increasing the fee. The release rate for books would also have to be much more consistent than it is right now so no one would feel cheated if they subscribed during a slow month. As mentioned above, the most immediate step will be adding more doujinshi releases to the service, and later down the road more magazines.
Hopefully that sheds some light on why the services are priced the way they are. If you have any further questions, feel free to message me or post in this thread.
The monthly $13 gives you access to three magazines, which by themselves would otherwise cost you over $16 if you bought them in Japan. You're not simply getting the same content either, with our releases being localized, uncensored using the original artwork, and available in HQ digital form (as opposed to printed on LQ paper). You'll need an active subscription to access the content, but you also get access to the entire backlog when you do, which at this point consists of about a year's worth of releases. Finally, we already have a few Western chapters in the service, and going forward there will be a couple of dollars worth of doujinshi added each month.

First of all: I'm a newbie in this paid product world.
I would suggest a middle point solution: it may be a chargeable little discount (like 5% discount for a book per month of subscription*, for example).
So if you took a 2 months subscription and you did not have bought anything using the discount, you could buy something using 10% of discount (following the formerly stated example).
* I don't really know the suscription options but I think the concept might not be totally useless.

what about having a 2 tier subscription price.
tier one is the normally subscription
tier two at $24.99 which includes the book, but as read only, and a discount for anyone who wants to buy it, i.e 10% off hard copy, 20% off digital copy.

It's a bit of hit and miss. Whilst it is a good idea, it would be too much for a lot of people, and the complaints would roll in like this one about the price. That said, you can't please everyone. I mean, that said, you're paying close to $10 more a month anyway, so you may as well just buy the digital copies. I'm fairly sure we get about a book a month, or every few months anyway, so it'd be cheaper that way. But, that's only one, not all. But, you have to think about coming up content when you think of price as well, which is a bit of a hit to the theory

If you instead compare it to most adult subscription services, you'll find that it's fairly cheap (excluding perhaps some that are based on piracy). Most adult services cost $20-25/month, and I believe that's where ours would end up as well if we were to include books into the fee. As for the cost of the subscription, this is what I've said about it in the past:The monthly $13 gives you access to three magazines, which by themselves would otherwise cost you over $16 if you bought them in Japan.
If you have any further questions, feel free to message me or post in this thread.
what about having a 2 tier subscription price.
tier one is the normally subscription
tier two at $24.99 which includes the book, but as read only, and a discount for anyone who wants to buy it, i.e 10% off hard copy, 20% off digital copy.
But, you have to think about coming up content when you think of price as well, which is a bit of a hit to the theory
this will make more sense when Fakku states outputting more than one book per month.
I still would like tier system, were more you pay the more you get.
Tier 1 = 9.99 just gives you mag and nothing else
Tier 2 = 14.99 gives you mags, gold account and 10% off on books
Tier 3 = 19.99 gives mags, books (read online only), gold account, increase image size for avi (5mb instead of 1mb), able to store upto 10 avi and have them change automatically change (every minute/hour/day/page refresh) and 15% off on books

Just saying, I’d be ok with a bigger subscription cost if it included books. I gotta say it does really suck paying twice. Not to mention, everything I want to read ends up being a book.

Unless you want to pay 23$ a month just for digital reader only books.
