As if China hadn't been fucked over enough in the past by Japan and it's own damned government. All I have to say is Communism = bad and socialism FTW!

Well, that's too bad. Too much is just that, too much. Wait, does North Korea and Thailand have these kinds of censorship too? How about the Middle East?
Anyway, maybe we'll get some workaround for you guys there >_<

I believe there are other countries which prevent its people from accessing certain websites, perhaps pornographic in nature too, but at the moment, China's crackdown is definitely one of the most extreme. In addition, if China is successful in such an implementation, other nations may follow suit...

Although I cannot fully empathize with Chinese for the situation they're in-- since their political environment is quite alien to me, I'm pretty confident that things like this won't faze them. They've endured shit like this for centuries, this isn't anything new to them. Still, I find it quite sad.

This is a violation of one's rights. Shoot. It's time to find that workaround. Can't have my country follow suit.

I just hope this doesn't spread all over the world... I've read something kinda same before...

Censors only deprive people of the good stuff... Lets say...
Random guy: *searches for porn* WHAAAAAAAT BLOCKED! I MUST GET PORN! MUST GET SOMETHING TO FAP TO! *sees some girl and gets lecherous thoughts*
And there we go...

china isn't really a democracy, rather a country who follows the communist ideology. (not in a extreme way like in the soviet union , which eventually became a disaster). and therefore it's obviously alot of strict rules in china.
but look at the positive sides china is with no doubt (one of the) the strongest country(s) econimical and military wise. so for all you capitalist people out there: a country can work quite well without beeing on the right wing (in a political manner).
(also mao zedong who is one of china's most important characters, played a big part in the many reforms in china who eventually made china into the china we know today).

This is a violation of one's rights.I really hate when countries try to dictate that kind of shit. I mean I understand regulating crimes and everything like that, but porn? wtf, browsing the internet for porn isn't hurting anyone. Who are they to tell people they can't do that. That shit would not fly here in the US.

Yes, the communist/socialist government is quite strict. But still, there are some politicians who abuse people's rights in other forms of government, even democratic. There are also some politicians who think that they are given the task to cleanse this world of stuff, blah, blah, so they tell people to do this or that for their own sake, but actually, these officials are just following their own goals. It's quite true, unfortunately.
And yeah, it may not reach the US, for other countries however, well...

When govt officials can't solve problems they focus on other problems so they would look like they're doing something... Plus they get paid cause for every project they do they get part of it... At least here in my place and I know since most my relatives are corrupt politicians...

I am an overseas Chinese in Malaysia. I share your(my dear chinese brethren) pain of the government's ridiculous set of rules instead of checking corruption, waste and economy.
Apparently, rempit(motorbike racers and thrill seekers) are less heretical than yoga in the eyes of the heads of muslim in my country (lolz)

Would one like to live in a society, where the men can't fap to anything?
Dangerous thought.
China bans wikipedia and youtube because of their hosting anti-government (Taiwan, Tibet, Etc Etc) But what the hell with...
Living in China, And I don't feel "Launches" is a good word for the state right now. They have already banned several adult video hosting sites, one being megarotic and several others that I've forgotten. Sites like doujin-moe also came down two years ago and sites no doubt have come down last year as well. To my great dismay. (One reason why I've been lurking about here more often. I guess a reduction of competition creates inelastic demand for FAKKU in China does give you more "business")
These doddery old government people have also gotten cunning and basically blocked off all anonymising sites as well. Making it even less convinient.
But, for those of us that have been fighting the Firewall for years, we'll find a way out like we have done.

ya...iv just reread the whole url thing that jacob posted and their is alot of things i looked up that contradicts what the Chinese law is about
the main word that is used in the whole article is Chinese law see i looked up that word it was a strange kinda of law basicly having influences all around the world basicly...im going to post alot of definitions for words mostly used in it and it might make some ppl angry or confused u be the judge but..here goes
Chinese Law : is one of the oldest legal traditions in the world. In the 20th and 21st century, law in China has been a complex mix of traditional Chinese approaches and Western influences.
the influences of Chinese Law: the Republic of China adopted a largely Western-style legal code in the civil law tradition (specifically German-influenced)
For most of the history of China, its legal system has been based on the Confucian philosophy of social control through moral education, as well as the Legalist emphasis on codified law and criminal sanction. Following the Revolution of 1911, the Republic of China adopted a largely Western-style legal code in the civil law tradition (specifically German-influenced). The establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949 brought with it a more Soviet-influenced system of socialist law. However, earlier traditions from Chinese history have retained their influence, even to the present.
the topic about google: they might be able to tell them that they arnt doing a efficient job at receiving notices from the country's Internet watchdog that they were providing links to pornographic material their able to tell them about that but google isnt obligated to do much action of taking them out since it is a bunch of paper work and they must get like -.- a million notifications of those kind of things from all of the world and since were going into a lil problem wit money hiring people to deal with that kind of things will take to much time and money to do since making a website isnt hard to do and u can make a website with videos like with spankwire.com ur able to download the videos and u could just down load them to ur site and make another pornography site they google would have to deal with...and with them saying that they ''generate pornographic content'' they dont have anything to do with that.
im going to end this soon so just bare with me...
final topic about the crackdown: The crackdown focused on pornography but is part of a larger Chinese effort to control freedom of expression and root out material it considers destabilizing, such as sites that criticize the Communist Party, promote democratic reform or advocate Taiwan independence now with that said don't u think that is a little bull shit seeing that destabilizing means to disrupt something but it is just pornography it doesn't hurt people, or nor does it kill anyone, and the criticizing of the communist part and the rest of the stuff I mean like seriously freedom of speech and the country is disestablishing because of their stupid idea of ridding them of something that is basicly apart of them by now seeing u can get plenty of porn on and off the internet.
