Hey guys.
I'm thinking about founding an anime club at my university, last I checked, there was no such thing. Only WOW, movie and Warhammer clubs.
So... what activities does an anime club do? I think a club more like Genshiken would be way cooler, but 1) don't know how to name that one 2) would be too overboard for most students
Any of you guys been in an anime club? If so, what was your average club meeting like?

Nash.
As much as I love anime, practically every organized group off the internet relating to anime is gay.
Those who participate in anime clubs are often social rejects.
I remember once I was working on something and this group of fat, ugly, ect. ect. "set up shop" near me and they were watching anime.
I would soon find out that this group of social rejects was the "anime club" and from that day forward I understood why the stereotypical "otaku" was fat and ugly.
People who have enough interest in anime to join a club AKA become publicly known for that taste, are fucking creeps.

Watch anime.Well, duh.
I mean, there have to be things besides that, right? I figure coming together to watch anime is a bit pointless...
Everybody would want to watch Naruto or Bleach only, anyway

Welcome to reality lol.
I'd rather found a club for video games, but then again, only dudes who play shit like GTA or WOW would join...
It's really hopeless...

Good idea, but I figure a lot of people would be put off by watching anime subtitled...

I hope you realize that most clubs attract the worlds biggest weeaboos who don't know how to hide their power level. Also 99.9% of those clubs watch dubs insteads of subs.
Better not fuck this up if you are going to do it.

Good luck. I estimate a large presence of weaboo, as well as insistence on watching crappy fanservice anime.

That's exactly what's bothering me.

If theyre such weaboos, but only watch dubs... well.. that does not compute. They better learn to like subs. Soooooo many better animes out there that arent dubbed, theyre just keeping themselves in the dark (ha look whos talking)

Any of you guys been in an anime club? If so, what was your average club meeting like?well, I was once in a Japanese Culture Club in high school, we basicly study Japanese cultures, languages and all the miscellaneous things.
sometimes we watch anime together, going to a Con and sell anime goods in the school bazaar. we even did a mini cosplay fashion show too, more like Kimono fashion show to be exact, since the club has too many girls in it.
well, if it's going to be focused on anime only:
-Watching new animes together
-discuss the anime currently being watch
-plan an event that is anime related (cosplay, group project, etc).
it's kinda hard to think about the activities if it's focused on one thing like this.
BTW, harmonian's statement is invalid. my club have 8 girls in it, and they're not ugly fat kids, and we also got a some Cute twins too. Ironically the guys were only 2 at my generation, and increased it to 6 when I was chairman.
so in the end the status of the club when I have to quit from there is
10 Girls, 5 Boys

Well, as I said... I'd rather found a Genshiken-type club... but that would kinda be a bit too extreme :\

introduce them to the few good dubs that exist, Gits, bebop, champloo, etc. After that tell them you know there's even better shit out there but it requires subs and you may convince a few of them.

Pic related. OK it looks like it would be fun if you didn't care but you get my point.

Over here, dubs SUCK ASS. I've only seen like, 1 or 2 good dubs and that were american cartoons (Invader Zim, Angry Beavers).

oh, then you really have to get them into to subbed stuff, you dont have much of a choice unless you want to spend your time watching narutu or belch.
