Im wondering why is ecchi and fanservice always seen as being bad quality. There can be quality ecchi and fanservice you know.

Usually because the ecchi and fanservice are the focus and the same, tired situations (walking in on showers, wind blowing skirts up, girls tripping and falling on MCs face) can only happen so many times before getting repetitive. And when the series tries to continue to cash in, they need a "plot", which can then seem awkward when juxtaposed with pseudo-porn.

And if it's just a slice-of-life series that drags on, well, it's just a slice-of-life with fanservice which is typically lamer because it has to set up situations in which fanservice can occur. Not to mention the MC has to be retarded and reject the 10+ female characters' advances since the shows aren't full-blown hentai.

That's usually why they're seen as being bad.

Any show that needs Ecchi and fanservice to sell can hardly be considered "quality". I'm not saying I don't enjoy Ecchi, but if a show is appealing to my dick rather than my brain or emotions it's just not a good show.

I wonder if this is just me but I can watch attractive women in ecchi situations and not be aroused. I still enjoy seeing it but I don't feel like fapping or anything. I have never even thought of fapping to an ecchi anime before. So thats not how I see it at all.

Its often in poor taste when whole scenes have no other purpose than fan service. If the whole point of the series is ecchi scenes, it can be done very well, but when fan service has no purpose its just irritating. Ecchi scenes that drive an interesting plot may also work well.

I detested HoTD for the sole reason that there was too much fan service in an otherwise interesting story.

But I have been wondering for quite some time as to why so many people are against seeing ecchi scenes in shows. They see a show see that it has fanservice or ecchi in it and they immedieatly start berating the show saying that such things are ruining the show. I think the opposite actually. I like seeing ecchi and fanservice in shows. I do watch some that are completely ecchi but even ones that are supposed to have a greater plot I still like fanservice in it. Its not beacuse I have any intention to fap to this material or anything, its not a hentai and people should stop saying "ecchi should just be hentai" I enjoy seeing it simply beacuse I enjoy seeing beautiful women. Its actually more pure a reason then you might think. I could even take this to a level saying that if a series has no attractive women at all then that creates a much much bigger detriment on the series then any ecchi would. I just don't understand why people are so against it.

You can get information from people who have experienced it to glean information so you don't have to experience it yourself. For the sake of example, the guy next door is addicted to heroin. I've seen what it does to people and users told me about the experiences they've had with it. Have I tried it? No. Will I try it? No.

Some mix of both two is what I do for anime. I research the synopsis and staff and cast, then ask others how they think it'll be. If it can get past my initial filter, then I pick it up to form a solid opinion on it (and that involves watching the whole damn thing). If not, I let it go, never really experiencing if it's actually any good or not.

Also, heroin's quite the extreme "example", could have just said weed or something.
