In preperation for the impending zombie apocalypse

I too have some comments to make, like the hand gun issue you said that penetration is more important than magazine capacity but zombie flesh is ussaully decaying are already decade therefore soft. what you really have to worry about is a bunch of zombies are coming after you and you running out of bullets. and for the arrmor I would just put on some harden leather that covered most of my body, but this is just my opinion.

Just throwing this out there but why have I never seen anybody mention building an underground compound in a manner similar to Burt Gummer in Tremors. The man stores years worth of M.R.E.'s in what is essentially a bomb shelter. Throw in a bank vault style door and you will survive the zombie apocalypse or live out the remainder of your life in a single room of whatever the hell you decide to make it.
Stock it with whatever you want and you can ever survive WWIII if you had too (or a nuclear effort to wipe out the zombies like they did in Resident Evil. 2.
Much better than holding up in some building after you scurry around a city or town filled with zombies hoping for humanity to survive and rescue you.

And don't forget the fact that not one of us can build an underground fortress that is big enough to sustain someone for years to come unless we have billionares here on fakku. Buildings like sam's club or walmart (perferable sam's club) is not only there already it is big enough to last one person years on end.

I don't have the engineering background to build something like that myself. And, I lack the funds to do it in preparation.
"One of these" is a Halligan bar. You can get one from fire department surplus, or here.
250 bucks. Things to think about when you break one...

head to my family's walled off lake house in northern Ontario(as zombies will take time to climb a mountain in the cold). I will invite all of my friends and any Americans willing to bring one of three things, weapons/supplies/women(no fatties).

Air Supply? Electricity? motherfucking earthquakes?Air: Same way your basement gets air. Ventilation and such. Basement depth doesn't affect air supply much.
Electricity: Solar panels, wind turbines,etc
Earth quakes: You got me there.

A single pallet carries on average 48 cases and costs about 4-5k. You'll spend about that much on guns and bullets.
A bank vault door costs about $4,600.
General idea is turn your already existing basement into a panic room.
If your going this route you've planned ahead for it.
The weak link in the chain is water supply.

Sorry but uh:
Air: Zombified creatures(be it rats or just zombies) will either crawl in there or block the entrances.
Electricity: What if someone knocks it down?

We're talking about a zombie crisis here, I don't think anyone would spend even that much for a possibility of this. Speaking for myself, $4,000 isn't cheap at all.

Electricity: What if someone knocks it down? Then your screwed but, it will probably be on top of your house like most solar panels. Remember, this is just a house with improvements. Hell, you could go the route they went in the movie I Am Legend with the metal shutters with bolts to keep them closed. Just get the doors reinforced or something to that effect.
