Is Evangelion the greatest anime ever?

I really enjoyed it but I wouldn't consider it to be "one of the greatest animes ever". I still need to watch the new movies though. It starts on 1.1, right? Or is it 1.0?

In terms of the influence it had upon the industry, I think it was one of the best things that could have happened.

Still plan to watch it. It always sounded promising but I'm just so lazy to get it.

I loved the series, enjoyed the movies and always enjoyed watching it (regardless of how many times I would repeat watching it.) It's a good one and one of my personal favorites, but the best ever? I'm not so sure. There are a lot of great works out there and to call any individual one the best ever undermines arguably equally good works.

They're all the same... 1.11 is the special edition or the english realease or something. Just watch 1.11 and 2.22... and 3.33 when it comes out.

There is no "best" or "greatest" anime ever, it just depends on what kind you like and prefer. Every anime has its flaws, so there cannot be a "best" one. My favorite is Bleach though :)
