Is it ever appropriate to say nigga?

By that I mean in a non-derogatory use such as ''wut up mah nigga!''

Is it okay for whites to use it? Is it okay for blacks to use it? Has the meaning changed over time? Is there a difference between ''nigger'' and ''nigga''?

Its funny to a point, beyond that point is unacceptable by both whites and blacks. I personally dislike the word and say Negro instead.

From what I understand it's fine for black people to use it, but not okay for white people to use it.

I put it down to white people being embarrassed by the whole "slavery" thing.

Say that to a black guy, chances are you'd get slapped and smacked the fuck down. I thought this was common sense?

I say it to my friend (neither of us are white) but we are careful when we use it.

We need to stop being offended by it especially since we use the word ourselves. What's an insult if you don't let it affect you? Sticks and stones.

My thoughts exactly. The word lost its meaning when it became common in pop-culture. Moreover, if everyone ignores people who say it the word will become useless as a tool for provocation.



I used to tell only people I liked that they could say it because it would irritate people who I disliked and didn't let say it. This was a simple amusement of mine in elementary and middle school.

Considering it was only used by white people to insult black people, it's only considered insulting if you say it specifically to a black person in an insulting way.

It's the only racial slur that was made by someone else that that race uses as a term of endearment. Black people calling each other nigga is not really anything.

The word hasn't lost it's meaning when you have people from a time in history where they weren't considered equal still living and contributing to society.

It's a word - It's literally just vibrations.

There is a smaaaaall difference between saying a word, and placing slavery shackles 'n shit around a black persons house.

I'm Caucasian, so perhaps my opinion on this subject doesn't matter. But still...

I don't really mind the use of the word "nigger" or any of it's variants. I do understand where some people who are offended are coming from though because I'm not a socially inept idiot.

The disparity between races is way smaller than it was decades ago, and the variants of the word have seeped into mainstream culture, so it shouldn't be as big of a deal for younger people, especially those who grew up with/are growing up with "web/net culture".

True. Nigger is in an interesting place though. I can't think of any other discriminatory word that has become so commonplace.

I use the term all the time. Most of the people don't giveth tha fuck. Niggers aren't just for black people. A nigger is just a dumb useless retard... you can be white/asian/whatever. Plus nigger comes from the latin name for the people who lives below the nile NGR.
