2. Maybe it offensive, but that doesn't mean much. Maybe you haven't personally seen it, but it does happen.
3. Again, some people don't care about being PC, or at least around people they know and like.
4. You again seem to take the individual out, and are are to blame the giant group of people definitely don't have the same reason for disliking something.
If you had bad personal experiences with people who were hyper sensitive about the word when you used it, well that sucks for you.
Those who do- there's my grief- it'll jump around. Call them Nigger and they punch you in the face- only to turn around and greet their friend with the very same word.
You cannot make a case for logic in there.
I know it hypocrisy to be offended by a generally demeaning word when an outsider who you aren't familiar calls you that, especially when you turn around and say it to those you know, but in a different context.
I mean, yeah, the double standard is still there, but you've already explained why it exist yourself several times.

I don't doubt that some may call each other terrible things when joking around, but "Nigger" is the only one that I can think of that is used to address someone normally. (Sometimes "Bitch", but- like I'm saying with Nigger, here- it's been circulated around so frequently and casually that it simply doesn't have much bite to it anymore).
4. I do focus upon vast swathes of people, simply because I don't think personal, anecdotal experiences makes for a solid backing when discussing broad, wide-reaching subjects.
I know why the double-standard is there, I simply find it kinda dumb that it continues to persist, and isn't something that I've heard brought up before.

So because a lot of other people are okay with something...everyone should? Not everyone is the same, and if you do choose to act a certain way, you shouldn't expect complete approval or animosity from everyone.

This isn't a subject that's so black and white. You want it to be, but simplifying the issue.......

Go whine about it on /b/, /pol/, or stormfront if it's so stupid to you.

I care about it enough to notice it, but not enough to go join different forums and make multiple topics about it.
I think sharing my thoughts on the one is quite enough.

I don't think this a subject where we have to throw out people's personal experiences to get a meaningful answer.
If anything refusal to understand each other is one of the main reasons problems like these still exist.

The numbers are much too large to chase after individual opinions and thoughtful discussion. That's why we have polls and surveys.
Although I would like to have such a system where everyone can partake in meaningful discourse, that'd only ever be manageable in very small communities.
Or a small group of elites who make the decisions for the masses.
Going off on a tangent, here.
Anyways, my main point remains- having a word aptly able to freely swing between opposite extremes upon the social scale is just plain wonky.

Nigger is kinda like faggot. If a random person calls me a faggot im gonna beat there ass, if my friend says faggot I know hes joking. Same with nigger.
I don't like using racial slurs and don't like my friends using them either.

OP,are you considering "nigga" and "nigger" to be equivalent for this topic? The reason i ask is because to me there is a big difference between the two. I didn't vote in the poll for this reason
Nigga im actually ok with non-black people saying as long as i don't sense them using it in a way malicious/insulting sense. Context matters to me.
However,i don't see any reason for anyone to use the term "nigger" in a casual way. And that includes black people.

They were the same word. "Nigga" is a recent invention- being a ploy upon the way Afro-Americans pronounce it.
So while it is the case in contemporary times for them to be acknowledged as two distinct words- it started off as a single word with two drastically different uses.
In much the same way as "faggot". Although this has only negative uses. It is harmless only when used disingenuously, referring to cigarettes, or of its rarely-seen original meaning.
All I wish to address is the lunacy of taking one word and assigning it with both roles of offender and befriender.

To be blunt, they are not the same word. One may have come from the other, but I have never heard the ER one used by African Americans in a friendly manner. Have you?
