Kamp Kuzma: The Operators' Campgrounds (For Operating)

CHT - That could be achieved without going to space, just put more work into faster, with better stealth, planes. Though I think completely stealth flight would be the most powerful, for example, a fully optical camouflage and radar silent helicopter dropping/picking up soldiers. In addition to Keirova's example, Vietnam has good examples of the faults of dropping soldiers behind enemy lines.
Lance - Their are possibilities for space to be weaponized. For instance, directing space derbies or rocks into certain areas as "orbital bombs". Destroying ozone over or directing concentrated amount (like a magnifying glass) into an area to increase heat. Hiding weapons in space derbies to be used years later, like a satellite with explosives that is intentionally left to be destroyed after it's expiration date with a timer set to fall towards earth some months/years later, to explode mid surface. (I know that since I could come up with this, others have too)
We may not be able to get out into space, at this rate, to even be able to set up such things...

All good ideas but personally, if you're going though all that trouble might as well focus the funding elsewhere.

Sadly, killing, through war, to conquer and dominate others seem to be a human based constant that won't disappear anytime soon... I would love for more money to be allocated into science, (I would dance down the streets if every country stopped funding military and put that into science, medical and technical), but it seems like the only science (American) politicians are interested in is military wise...

You realize many scientific breakthroughs were made thanks to a desire in advancing warfare. I don't think Von Braun would've ever successfully made a rocket without the funding and support of the Nazi war machine and the computer started off as a code breaking machine. Mechanical exoskeletons and advanced AIs as well are only being developed this fast thanks to military contracts.
I can't complain about us first world countries developing advanced technologies for war, especially when it is being used to stop conflicts in third world countries rather than instigate them.
VAL's NOTE: To add to that Kei, most technologies being developed are focused on taking the human element out of harms way. By the next century, our wars will be fought on the digital front using robotics for pseudo politics.

Much to my dismay, we lose another beloved member of staff today(or actually quite a while ago but I wasn't informed till now). Sous Chef Asuzu, due to certain circumstances, will be unable to attend Fakku any longer and has requested to be taken off the staff list.
That being said, this has motivated me to allocate a place on my thread for notable past members who have stood by me here when I have been alone and have moved on. May they be in our hearts as they progress through life.

I already done it personally, I don't think we need a whole public ceremony or anything for this. Besides, once he's overcome this, he'll be back. Definitely.

Sorry I know I am bringing up the topic of the other day in light of a new topic arising. I'm aware our understanding of subatomic particles was advanced, easily 10 folds, by the desire to weaponize nuclear technology before the Germans. But the only difference that really changed was how much in funding was allocated and how much was left at disposal to them.
I have to look into Von Braun, but I believe these findings/inventions still would have been made, just at a slower pace (if "lack of warfare" equates to "lack funding"). As for A.I. this is a really controversial one, if sought after for war purposes, a country may easily "accidentally" create a Skynet without realizing. Advancing into A.I. is good (to me), but going too fast...

No worries, I like a discussion. Sorry for replying late, I'm finally back at work and no longer slacking at the computer all day.
While it's true that the Nazis only made that technology advance further, I think the absence of it would have drastically changed how the world is today. Hell, we'd probably only just pass the space age now for all we know. I will say that the nations' desire to outgun other nations is what led to us advancing many more times quicker than we ever have in any other century, it was one full of fighting unlike any other. It is my belief that humanity's desire to survive or eradicate their opposition is what stimulates advancement.
Artificial Intelligence, I've never really taken a side on in argument. It's a technology I know I can live without but at the same time I understand what advantages it would give to a soldier like me on the field. I can't much say I ever worried about the whole Terminator-esque "SKYNET" robot revolution hoo-ha, the idea always seemed pretty far fetched. Personally I like the Sons of the Patriots AI system from MGS, multiple AI networks in charge of their own thing and monitored by a core AI system. Then again that may be because I was actually intrigued by the MGS storyline but never really paid much attention to Terminator(even though I watched all of them. . . )

I think more than Terminator and Matrix way the humanity goes more of one of the Asimov's way of thinking when it comes to AI. We'll become dependent on computers for almost anything...

Asimov wrote the Three Laws of Robotics didn't he? Personally, I'm not much worried about a robot revolution but I am worried that there will come a time where we'll be near absolutely dependent on machines/computers. I've seen the advantage of using computers on the field, GPS units that can keep track of where you are(so long as you have a signal) but I've never been totally reliant on them and I've made sure all my recruits understand never to become reliant on them either. Manual process is susceptible to human error but god damn at least it's do-able all time 'round.

Aside of other he's probably most famous for defining the Three Laws of Robotics, yes. He also wrote many stories about humans and robots/robotics. One short story that will be fixed into my mind forever will be the one where small kids listen to a fairy telling robot and talk about if you do not know something... You ask computer. Then they talk about how awesome would be to use the coding and decoding technique which people from History museum knows which is called writing and reading respectively and the concept of highest education is "programming" which is a way how to ask the computer the right question to answer.
