What if you can travel back in time???
0
The Idea came from the other topic namely the alternate dimension. Just want to ask what will you change if can travel in time??

If you changed anything that happened in the past you wouldn't be who you are today. I regert nothing and I want to change nothing.

actually some people were throwing around the idea that time cant be changed because if were in the time stream we would never know that history had ever changed what ever changes will seem normal

Well, actually, it would only seem normal to those who weren't present during the change.
See, by changing an important part of the timeline, one creates an entire new existence where events went the way that the change dictated, instead of the original path. The world you came from would branch off into a new timeline, which would be inaccessible, and you would be stuck in a new, altered timeline where the bad shit never happened, but since you were originally from a timeline where it did happen, you would remember it while others would never know of it.
Does that make sense?

I understood that, sounds reasonable :)

But then again, isn't there is a chance of a paradox occuring? If the resulting change in time made it so that you never made your time machine in the first place, you wouln't travel back in time and so the change would never take place, meaning everything would stay the same.

I once had a dream that my current consciousness was put into my body when I was 5, so it was like 1991 and I knew everything I know now, I thought it was kind of cool, except I would have to wait another 16 years before I could drink again unless I joined the military again.

that just lead to a whole lot of confusion, the fact that u already traveled back in time resulted in a change in ur existence, it's true that the change might've not incur the invention of time travel later in future from when u are, but everything's already changed the moment u return to a certain period of the past, thus nothing would stay the same as before, but then one could argue about the side effects of time traveling, will it in anyway affect ur mind, the way u think or even memory alternation.
back to the topic: i would probably redo my last math exam.

not sure, are we talking on a global scale like say killing hitler, or are you talking about on a personal note?

i'll bring some ak47 or m16 back to the past when gun powders are not yet created. i'll be the king WAHAHA. but then... i think not. there's no anime or hentai to be found T.T
it depends on personal desires in my opinion. someone will go back to undo his mistakes, some go back to save the world?
hmm i think it wont be fun anymore if we can turn back time... life's fun cause there are things that you can only do it once in your life rite?

I don't think you would be able to change anything. Like if your wife died in a robbery and you went back in time and saved her she would just die a different way ig: car crash. So my theory is you cannot change the past but you can change the way it happened.

it's so hard to understand >< time is a difficult topic. if you watch noein (anime) it says that there's an infinite of world, infinite of time, infinite of you doing infinite of things. so in universe #1 a man die in car crash, in universe #2 he might still be alive.
another idea of time is that things does not change even if u can go back.they are made that all the happenings are just repitition. this theory can be seen from the movie harry potter prisoner of azkaban. where harry go back to save his past self, while his past self saw him and thought he was his father.
i wish someone could come up with a prove about this thing haha.

No, actually.
Imagine time as a giant, handwoven tapestry. Each timeline would be like a thread in the tapestry. Each time a split occurs, you simply split a thread into a Y formation, where the lines veer off at the major change.
So, imagine the default world to become string A and the changed one would become B. The only Change A would get is that you wouldn't come back to it. B, on the other hand, would veer off in another direction, in line with the change, and you would go along for the ride as a new member of B. Any further popping around the time line would be done along the Original/B route, until a method of traversing strings was discovered.

I would look at the stock market, write down what stocks to invest in, go to the past and somehow try and get my past self to invest and make millions. The End.
Thanks Family Matters for the idea!!!! lol

On a sidenote, anyone seen the movie Butterfly Effect? Pretty crappy in some ways, with a lot of logic flaws - but it's exactly about the stuff you guys are discussing.
I believe history could be even worse if, for example, the second world war wouldn't have taken place at all.
Here's a little something to think about: If I, in the age of twenty, go back in time and murder myself in the age of ten, what's going to happen? Since I'm currently eighteen and you guys are reading this post, it affects you as well.
Personally, I , ignoring consequences, always wanted to travel back to the seventh of December in '04 and erase this guy called Nathan Gale, have fun researching why I want to do this.

i believe that even the smallest change in the past would alter the future differently.
so i won't do anything,as it would cause a time paradox.

I would not want to go back into the past. Doing so would tempt me to altar what had happened, hence altering the future and possibly causing unforeseen problems.

since he din state the limit of being able to travel back so i guess it's unlimited wahaha
