Ah, I see. Well, the way things are progressing with the first poll beginning less than a day ago is that the final poll will end by the 13th and depending on how we, the judges, are progressing with our analysis, I expect a decision to be made no later than the 15th.

the 15th it is then.

thanks for the clarity.

I'm not sure why you'd need to have a discussion with me, there's considerably less you need to worry about when there are no prizes or contests involved. You just initiate the event with a thread and allow people to pour works into a conglomerate.

I'm just kind of wanting to sync things through about when to start. so it doesn't really clash with the contest =D

Plenty of time to write parodies I guess. I intend to do parodies or articles for 8 of the contest entries. Seeing that I write around one parody a day, I should be able to hit the deadline.

So, any videogames story that really caught your eye and stuck to you?

this was mine

Start at 2:47.

Sadly, the rest of the other MGS games lacked this kind of scene in the games. The opponents one would fight would no longer be like them and might as well be ripoffs (Pyro Byson/The Fury, Marrionette/Vamp, an obligatory unnecessary female character somewhere, Psyco Mantis/Fortune).

reminds me of the first MGS, damn that game has lot of feels.

on a side note. I'm currently playing Civ 5. damn man, I can't get the background song outta my head, it just keeps playing and playing outta nowhere lol =D

so fucking addictive I really lost track of time, I even forgot to eat damn.

well I'm playing as Babylon at that time, and I'm really surprised why I haven't been able to achieve Science Victory using the Civ when it has the additional benefits to science. it's kind of funny how my first victory ever was a science victory and I'm actually playing the Aztecs that time lol =)

science victory with Aztecs - turn 330-ish on the lowest difficulty. yeah, I'm still a total noob on this. one thing I noticed, I somehow always got the cultural victory first on the later playthroughs.

Welcome to the dark side. Now I am writing boring stories in my Cesspit. If I weren't doing that, I'd be playing that too! Each game lasts for several hours.

330 turns was fast though. I had a Technological Victory at 370+ turns out of 500. Warlord difficulty. Wu Zetian.

What was the gender of the person Solid Snake killed?

One or two Japanese visual novels had a storyline that caught my eye. I don't really play RPGs but Mass Effect was rather entertaining story wise.

Last Tuesday night, long after I had gone to bed, total strangers burst into my house yelling †˜Happy New Year!’, and shook me from a deep sleep.

Actually, they didn’t. But they might as well have done. Instead, total strangers near where I live thought it fun to let off fireworks which sounded, in turn, like landmines and an anti-aircraft barrage.

Sleep was impossible from 11.30 till 12.30.

I think I am falling in love with whoever wrote this.

mind that I played it on the lowest difficulty lol

it appears to me that the AI players are mostly annoying and tries their hardest to piss me off. I think being a warmonger and simply destroying everything was the fun part =D

the decisive part was the start and the opening thingy I think. can you tell me what's the difference while playing on higher difficulties?

Not much difference I think. The civilisations will produce culture and science more, more likely to expand so on and so for. Each civilisation has their own preference for victory.

I ought not to focus on every victory, just a certain victory. It is important to generate science and money and people to obtain those victories though. Need to select which buildings are important. The science buildings I believe are a must build. As for other buildings like forges and barracks and so on, one can begin to specialise. Buildings nurture great people.

I see. it really irks me to lose even a bit on this game though. so yeah, I'd probably just play on the lowest difficulty so I can basically pick on many Civs just for unleashing my anger and such.

well, the main key that I like goes like that. faster progression and such, more powerful units early on =D

yeah, great people and stuff. reminds me most of the time why I got the cultural victory.

Had the same problem. Cultural victories look easier to achieve. Just get the correct technology and policies. In Civ 4, which I am playing now, the cultural victory is the hardest to achieve.

on Civ 4, I didn't even remember how I even get a victory. I didn't play the game that long even. just for some game and basically uninstalled it I think.

that aside, ever try playing on higher difficulties like Deity and Immortal?

I played on king, and I will tell you that cultural is probably the 2nd hardest victory to achieve, with diplomatic being nigh impossible. Prince is considered the control, as in you are given no handicaps (extra happiness, research, etc), and levels above prince begin to give the AI bonuses like extra production, research, and randomly spawning units.

Immortal is do-able... but deity requires a lot of effort and/or luck, in both civ 4 or 5. Though in civ 5, it's definitely a lot easier.

xnine is the expert on this. I should seek your help playing this game someday.

I expect every move to be carefully calculated though the more difficult it gets. Whenever I play the Prince level, all of the other civilisations build wonders faster than me, research technologies faster than me, and get points much faster than me. A time victory I think for the difficult levels is impossible.

I just tried the Prince difficulty with Venice and man, I'm at turn 200ish still haven't been able to even get halfway through Science Victory, the only thing I had in boon was my vast amount of income. maybe there's an error I made while buying city states.

well, it's not that fun anymore at higher difficulties lol

I was pretty much born and raised with tactical games, and civ is no exception. I have logged my fair share of hundreds of hours on both civ 4 and 5, so I do not deny that I know my way around the game. On higher difficulties like monarch/king it is increasingly important to understand things like city placement, tech routes, and money management.

Just some quick tips off the top of my head:
1.) Rush SOMETHING. Being well-rounded, especially early on will not get you far. Rush catapults, or rush Pyramids, or rush the Oracle, etc. Early leads snowball into victories.

2.) Land is power. Depending on what map you play and how many players on on the map, you can generally kill off 2-3 AI easily early on with some form of catapult+melee combo. You can manage with 3 cities (or even 1!), but it's hard and it's simply easier to take over other peoples specifically generated good capital cities.

3.) Seige units. Use them.

But you can't though, not until you procrastinate games by reading some medical books.

whoa, it reminded myself of some ways I usually got ahead with victories. seize things early on. I possibly should just ignore the automatic suggestions and just use my own judgment accordingly. well, I think in the higher difficulties, there's an issue with high amount of unhappiness. if that's the case, I think, just raze the cities and just keep the capital. leave the city states alone?

yup, agreed with siege units. especially when it already comes to Rocket Artillery. you'd love them.

Luckily I unable to sleep, so I'm studying atm. MCAT books happen to be great at inducing sleep.

If you have excess money, then just buy the city states. But generally they play very minor roles. And yes, I don't keep extra cities unless the land it occupies is exceptionally good. The upkeep is too high. And, the suggestions are indeed quite terrible most of the time. The suggestion never account for future plans and only look to benefit you in the present. In most cases, your own judgement will be better.
