Well, as result from removing the unlicensed content from Fakku, I've moved from Fakku to Doujin-Moe and bought there subscription. Reasons are simple:
1) They have normal favorites system.
2) They have all unlicensed content, including content that was removed from Fakku.

And here I thought that people sending first during "trade" are stupid but seems like there will be always smarter flower in bouquet. :D

If I did pay the subscription, I would be paying only for a couple of chapters from artists that I like - this is not enough.

The point of a catalog service is that you don't have to like everything to make it worthwhile. Subscribing costs 30% more than buying a book, but it gives you ~30 books worth of content, so it's fine just enjoying a handful of the artists. For instance, if you like Ayane, there's 116 pages of content right now—more than half a book.

Intelus wrote...
I can only support artists that someone else put on the list, and it doesn't even go directly to them, but to magazine publishers.

Artists don't work for free just because they're with a publisher. Of course they get compensated for their work, but everyone involved needs to get paid as well. Even when you go to a convention and physically put your money into the artist's hand for a doujinshi, some of that will go to covering expenses like printing or paying the event participation fee.

Intelus wrote...
There's also the issue of pricing. Steam has different prices for different regions

We also understand that not every country's economy is the same, but these goods are produced in Japan and the US, and that's reflected in the production cost. The fees we have to pay as an American company—which doesn't go to the artists or us—are higher than what some users think the service should cost. Major, well-established companies can afford to offer their services for cheaper in certain regions precisely because they are major companies. This is obviously something we want to be able to do, but as a newly started company dealing in a niche market, we're not at that point yet.

Intelus wrote...
In the end, I'm also quirky and like having physical books, even though I never open them and only read digital versions. I feel I'm entitled to the content, and while I'm sorry that I don't support scanlators, this is the closest thing to a distribution model I'd consider ideal. If I could pay +30% to get a scanlation as well, I would, but things are not officially licenced that way at this time.

I don't understand what you mean by "scanlations" here.

If you mean digital versions, if we had a physical releases, we would most likely do the same thing for magazines as we do with books: give you the digital for free. However, printing these magazines would naturally increase the production costs, and as a result, the overall price.

If you talk about selling or including scanlations as in pirated fan translations into any service, there are sites that do that, but it's not something we want to do for moral and legal reasons.

Intelus wrote...
There isn't even enough available content to rival other sites, legal or not.

I don't think this is a fair comparison. Going back to your video game example, this is like saying CD Projekt RED is bad because all they have is a few Witcher games, whereas Steam has thousands of games. You can't compare a single actor who got started for real only half a year ago with aggregators that primarily compile the works of hundreds if not thousands of actors. It makes sense on a shallow level (one has more stuff than the other), but it's an apples and oranges argument.

I understand. With the way things are with content on the net, its hard. Someday soon, we may find all of our beloved free sites gone, either taken down fully, or turned into pay-per-view places. Fakku has been main source of reliable Hentai for a long time. I bought my first doujins from here! If I can't find a better job soon, then I will start skipping lunch and using the cash to support this place. I've gotten plenty from here. I don't mind giving back. Least till I find a real girl! HaHa! Ha...ha......haaa.... -Sits in a corner somewhere-

I really, REALLY doubt that will ever happen. Look at Piratebay. They've been viciously attacked several times. People are trying incredibly hard to dismantle it and it just keeps coming back. Unless net neutrality dies, piracy seems unkillable to me. That said, net neutrality is in constant danger. Our attention spans are limited and corrupt politicians have more to gain from repeatedly attacking it. But that's off-topic. Scanlation will most likely continue as long as there is source material left to translate. And even if ALL hentai gets translated, people will simply continue to pirate it.

What's really important here is if you care about where the money's going. The other sites that host pirated manga are almost always doing it to put money in their own pockets. FAKKU would be the first to put your money in the right hands.

Almost 8 years or maybe more passed when i started read FAKKU.I'm just silent and rarely appearing reader, but i throw few coins in box. There good and bad sides in whats happend.
Many unlicensed content has been removed:
good - now new manga licensed, all translated and uncensored:
bad - drastically decrease of manga base and all doujin.
Only way to reading now is pay sub and price $12.95/month:
good - support artist that you like to read, and + if you read often or not so care about price;
bad - if you reading 1-3 days in month than better wait when be anounced free rotation.
I'm try to explain my field of view:i'm reading FAKKU not so offen and month price for me more like neutral(even if compare for WoW thats costs in my country like $7.25).I'm even paying it but whats exist now half on half on fakku books and sub,or other solution that make 1-3 days sub - but it's not so good because thats banks comission with $2.
P.S.I tryed to see how much be cost shipping delivery if i buy printed version of book and i was shocked "UPS Worldwide Expedited - $202.49".I wish there be other varianrs or maybe other points where books can be send - like from Japan(because it more closer to me than USA) if it's be possible.Be good if mine post answer Jacob or Kisuka - i will appreciate to know their opinion.Sorry if my english bad - it's not mine native language and i not practice it like 2 years.

Wow, that shipping cost.
I'm not sure if this would solve your shipping problem, but the books can also be bought on http://www.amazon.com/ ,https://jlist.com/ , and http://www.rightstufanime.com/

Depends on if our trying to buy all of the vols. 2*17 is 34ibs and UPS is horrible. Problem is only hong kong, New Zealand and Australia are the only asian where porn is legal and fakku could sell since japan is a no go by uncensored and licensing terms.

Whelp, I only found out about this recently and I'm canceling my sub. I guess this is it. I only like doujins so with the removal of unlicensed content, I'll have to find a new site. Good luck.

2) I'm all for this part. Fakku should ask the artists to put out at least one page for each chapter for advertising purpose.

If you mean what I think you mean, you actually can see a page from each chapter on each preview thread for a magazine.

And here I was complaining about preview when it is right on the site. What a dork I am! Still, I think Fakku should put these sample pages on every chapter of the magazine they release or at least give me a "hook" from each chapter (with text of course). I know it's putting more work on them, but I believe that is where advertisement on Fakku falls short.

Pardon me for being shameless, but I think the adult sites on Fakku is actually doing a better job at advertising than Fakku itself.

Putting a sample page (or link to one) on every single chapter page seems a little excessive. They already have preview images (albeit small ones) and at this point they would have to retroactively add them to 350+ manga. At this point it might be better to just make the preview threads like the one I linked more easily accessible and prominent. For example, every time a new magazine comes out, make a banner at the top for a few days that says "X-Eros 40 is out! Check out the preview here!"

Just as an fyi, the twitter account posts 3 sample pages for chapters. I'm not sure if there are plans for more sample pages on the site though.

You can get a list of titles that were in your favorites by clicking the "export collection" button located on the favorites page. It will spit out a .json file with the info on it.

If you do restore any of the unlicensed content, will the comments on said content return?

Well... he just bought a sub for shit they don't OWN. So instead of doing the most oblivious thing of pirate pirated stuff and buy or not buy legal content He paid for pirated stuff... it's not wrong but retarded.

Like saying fuck you netflix, i'll pay for torrents.

This hahahahahahaha

First, this is ridiculous.
Second, don't worry about my English.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not mad about the non free part. BUT what the hell. This is the only US website where I can trust and find unique or hard-to-find manga. But thanks for ruining all of that and making it non free on top of removing all the freaking doujins and mangas. Now Fakku has now lost the entire identity of itself. Well I know the announcement and all that, but you couldn't possibly think the identity or the role of Fakku in US manga/doujin community? Really?? As one of the biggest manga community, did you ever think about the damage you're doing to US manga/doujin culture by your decision?? I know you guys took time to think, that doesn't mean you made right choice. Everyone should know by now. I can't take your excuse as legitimate one. There are so many other ways you can be legal and so call "support" manga writers and their contents. And Fakku is not the only major doujin/manga community in the world to support these manga writers. Stop acting like you need to save manga/doujin world. I read more than 50 threads about this issue but still can't agree. Yeah I've been reading and liking magna for more than for almost about 20 years now. I was pretty into the relationship between reader/collectors and the writers and have seen them fail or succeed in Asian market and NA market, but I can't get remove the thought that this is just an excuse for something else and you're not doing it well. I loved Fakku community for years as a silent reader. As much as I love Fakku, I don't want to see this community go down in a wrong direction because I honestly think there was nothing to beat Fakku ever. But now, people don't even bother trying to change because about half or more people don't like this decision. They just go to other shitty website because it's much better than current Fakku. Yes, you should read that sentence again If you see about more than 40% of disagree, you obviously need to think again because that's a lot of freading people. Hey

**Fakku, people aren't mad at your non free decision. We are freaking mad at all the other things. The way Fakku executed this decision, the way Fakku didn't care about voice of Fakku's community and ignored the readers who disagree (and stuck to staff's decision <-obviously minority seen from US mangs community),

STOP DESTROYING FAKKU'S IDENTITY AND VARIETY OF MANGA IN NA.

Remember two words people think of when they see the word "Fakku,"

Free And Variety

(I just suddenly started writing this on my old phone because I'm really freaking mad, so my writing is all over the place, but please read and reflect. I've never seen this kind of big and bad decision in Manga community in Japan or other communities around the world.)
