For your final point, I'd like to clarify that Japanese publishers were a part of these site take-downs as well. See "Multi-National Manga Anti-Piracy Coalition Formed".
This coalition has been taking action against aggregate sites who wrongly make a profit off of work they've never done. Whether or not they will move on to attack specific scanlation groups is unknown. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I find it interesting that you answered your own question sort of.
By this I mean that you wonder on scanlators sites being taken down. And yet just before that you say the coalition is going against "sites who wrongly make a profit off of work they've never done." And in your last post before this you say that the Scanlators did the scaning and translating work for free. So they made no money by doing that. So how can there sites be taken down for " wrongly making a profit" when they do not make ad revenues from there sites.

The fundamental difference between scanlators and aggregate sites owned by private companies is that scanlators are not in it to make money.
If you suspect scanlators of being profit-driven... Disregard that, there's no way anyone could think that.

They believed in this: "for the fans [size=10](who generate all the revenues)[/h], by the fans [size=10](who do all the work and bear the legal liabilities)[/h]".

I suppose such a backlash to this was inventable. What can you say. You are essentially stealing manga. Though there could be a market niche here to be cornered I do believe such a thing will eventually happen.
