Q9000 (4 core) @ 2.0GHz (meh)
GTX260M OC'ed to 611
4GB DDR3 1333
500GB HDD @7200rpm
1680x1050
This laptop would be crap without the quad core.
Im saving up to build a monster desktop later, though.

How much are you willing to spend on a new desktop? You can build a fairly badass rig for pretty cheap. Planning on making a monster rig as well. :]

I know I am running on an aged rig, but its pulling through. Also, Solidus, when do you plan to get a new computer? A Pentium 4 just can't handle the weight that it used to.

Yeah.
Alienware comp.
Let's hear it for overpriced badassery. Alienware custom rigs built to your specs are an expensive luxury my friend, one I hope to be able to afford sometime in the future. As for my rig, well... it's not really a rig at all. I'm using a 2-3 year old Dell XPS model# M1210 notebook class laptop. It's an early generation of the super compact laptops, and one of the direct predecessors to the current line of 'notebook' and 'netbook' computers, so it only has about an 11-12 inch screen. It also has an early model Intel Core 2 Duo, model# T5600 running at a measly 1.83GHz. I have no dedicated graphics card, but I am loaded up with 4 gigs of DDR2-667 RAM (also known as PC2-5300) so my Intel-brand integrated graphics setup has alot of memory to work with. I have a tiny lil 100 gig hard drive with a 7200 RPM speed. And that's all she wrote, if I forgot anything and remember it I'll add it here.

Boasting about having an Alienware comp. Hahaha The specs are still good but lol, you spent waaaaaay more than you should have. Though, there is one thing I like about Alienware computers and one thing only... their computer cases. Other than that they are the Bugattis of the computer world.
I plan on spending about $2000 minimum. More than enough to crush any games I would play.
This is not including price of a monitor though, strictly mobo, case, GPU, CPU, RAM, HDD's, and possibly a blu-ray drive (probably not)

I'm getting a new rig in a month or two, depending if prices don't fluctuate too much. Planning on getting a Phenom ii X4 rig with a 5870 on it, everything else I've slowly been upgrading since the last things I want to buy is the mobo/CPU and GPU since they fluctuate in price the most.

That's more then enough to have a badass rig. If I believe that should get you a great i7 rig with a 5970, if you ever need advice on what to get for your new comp, I'll be happy to help you out. ^^

Except with a Bugatti you pay for what you get - the fastest production car *pause* in the world.
I wonder how much he paid for those specs.
If you were to build it yourself it would end up being a AUD$3000 box.
Cept that CPU is way overpriced for the performance you get its cheaper cousin runs almost as fast but at a fraction of the cost.

Hey, on the upside he got an okay computer with his USD 3'999 wallpaper.

Spending some $3000 bucks for I7...... Wow that's my 2 month salary.... T_T..O_o Why so much? The mobo/CPU/tri-channel DDR3/Heatsink for OC shouldn't cost you more than 800 bucks, unless you are going crazy with the other parts as well.

The i7 975 chip alone is over AUD$1000 but the sad thing is it's smaller brother who costs a fraction of the price has only marginally lower performance and with a bit of tweaking can probably outperform its more expensive cousin.
If you want to see how much stuff is being sold in Australia go to staticice.
Not to mention the i5s are very good bang for buck specially if you like overclocking.
For that sort of money I would have build a damn decent box and have enough left over for a 30' monitor...
Also wondering Heavyweaponsguy what resolution are you playing your games at?
With that sort of machine playing at 1680x1050 is a waste of money unless you're planning multiple monitors OR playing on a 30' monitor.

Not boasting.
Got it for 2200$ open box. I'm not dumb enough to buy one at full price.

The difference between the i7 975 and the i7 920 is clock speed and an unclocked multiplier, there's no use spending 1k on the i7 extreme when you can buy the i7 920 for $280 then overclock with a moderately decent aftermarket heat sink.
