FAKKU! Calendar '09

Just updated the first post with the 10 submissions I received so far. They all look great! Do not just scrap your project/don't send it just because we almost have 12; I'd like to have more than 12 entries, for safety reasons, and I also need to have artwork for the front. Any extras that I feel are good enough but did not get a month can also be tagged to the end as extra artwork.
I would also like to remind all of you the deadline is just two days away. Those of you who still have submissions to finish (Zutroy, Mycstea, Techeese), and those of you who still have submissions to submit (Mycstea, Ramune, holy101), please hurry up and do so. If you guys need more time, the absolute final deadline is November 31st, but it would be awesome if you could get it in before then for art direction.
Also, artists, since you can all see the final submissions now, and are all part of the project, you are encouraged to critique them! I myself will post my evaluations a day after the deadline (November 26th), and if there are any changes that need to be made, resubmissions will be due November 31st.

@ tkhnoman: Your chibi Kallens are cute. What made you decide to use oranges in the background though?

But then, i change the BG (remove Mr.Orange) and then change the subject to orange love, that was the idea.
I revised this Kallen.

Okay, the deadline has passed. If you are one of those people (Ramune) who has a finished entry but did not yet submit it please do it as soon as possible. I cannot stress how important it is to get it to me earlier. I will start art direction tomorrow when I get up, so sometime within the next couple of days is ideal.
Thank you all for participating! You have no idea how proud I am of you all and your wonderful submissions. If there are improvements I feel can be made, I will PM them to you shortly. I will also be assigning months to each submission, so if you have any requests post them, and I will try my best to accommodate them.

I've finished with the evaluations; you should all have received a PM if your submission made the cut (except you, f0dd3r, since I contacted you directly). If you didn't get a PM, don't be disappointed; your submission will still be included at the end, it just won't be part of the main calender, unfortunately.
As I said in the PM, I have been very critical and harsh in my evaluations. The reason for this is not because I want to make you feel horrible, but because I want your hard work to be the best it possibly can. You received the PM because I want to include your submission in the final calender, and I gave the suggestions I gave so you could look at it and decide whether you want to make the change or not. I have also asked the opinions of a few other artists before finalizing the evaluations, so I did try to be as fair as possible.
I originally wanted the absolute final submissions on November 30th, but it is obviously too short for some of you. Therefore, I decided to extend the absolute deadline to December 5th. I honestly cannot allow any more time than that if we're going to make prints (still have to work out the legal issues).
Ramune, I've sent you several emails to no response. It is well past the deadline and you still have not submitted anything more than what you posted on this thread. The later you submit it means the less time you get to make the changes; any later than November 30th, and I'll consider you out of the project. This would be a big pity because you have a great submission that you completed early, but simply failed to submit it before the deadline.
The next stage of art direction would be, naturally, to assign the months. I want you guys to give your opinions; feel free to request a particular month for your submission, but it must make sense. For example, a beach scene should not be in December (we are going by Northern Hemisphere seasons here).
Hope you artists will continue to enjoy working on your submissions, and all of you non-participators will support them in this very last stage of the project!

I've added a section in the first post for the months.
Also, I've said this separately to some of you, but try to do as much of the fixes as you can. If you're short on time, do the fixes that take the least work but have the greatest improvements. This was what I meant in the PM about distinguishing whether each point was serious, a suggestion, or something nitpicky you could do if you have time.
You can disagree with them; art is subjective in any case, but those suggestions were made in goodwill. I also asked for greater color contrast in many of the works because art can look very different once printed out than when on the screen.
One or two of you have already submitted the very final versions; I will be posting them up as they come on the first post. Other artists, feel free to critique them as well if you feel something's wrong with the composition, lighting, contrasting, shadows etc. Let's all help each other to make this the best it can be!

Oh Raze you did a good job in taking care in this project, I never expected this project would be that good that it caught your attention. I think I have share my thought on some of the drawing but I hope other people could also posts their thoughts on the submissions. It doesn't mean that you have to be knowledgeable in drawing to share what you think of the submissions. Also hoping that Ramune would be able to provide submissions to Raze, its really good and like Raze said it would be a pity if it didn't make it to the calendar.
Actually this is my first time being really involved in a project and glad that I could submit something in it. It was fun and I enjoy doing it, I hope there will be another calendar project for 2010 too!
By the way what of the submissions that didn't get to be the calendar? Will they be artworks compiled together with the calendar or will they be use for other function such as credits or pinups or maybe bonus poster? Just curious...

I would love to have May for my month. The flowers in my image are Lillies of the Valley, which scream spring! in my mind. May is both the end of spring and to me the heart of spring, and the month I was born in. ^^ I also don't think such an image would fit in another month...

Guys, I am hopelessly stuck and need help with allocating the rest of the entries to months. I tried going by birthdays, but they didn't work; I only managed to allocate Milly to July by this method. Any bright ideas?
f0dd3r, if you could get back to me whether you could somehow turn your entry into a January-fit entry sometime soon it would be awesome.
I'm thinking of having a little page at the back where we put entries that did not make it into the final calender for whatever reason (whether it be it didn't make the cut, or practical reasons). We most likely cannot print out non-calendar entries on separate pages because it'll probably not be included in the printing package.

Zutroy
American as apple pie
From what I see currently on the first page, I think Ramune's rendition of Louise would be perfect for February - all the shades of pink make me think of Valentine's Day. Plus, Louise in lingerie really helps with that train of thought - she's begrudgingly wanting you as her Valentine!

Seriously, great idea.

Hmm, I think its better to ask the artist that did the drawing which months they would prefer. Like Mizusawa one of them can put their artwork depending on the artist birthday. One thing that I could think off Miku is she made her first manga appearance on November though I wonder if its a good reason to put her in November. Sorry Can't be of much help...

Oh thanks for clarifying... Wait, little pages... at the back?.. T_T
P/S:Hoshino Ruri is from Nadesico not Nadeshiko(while its true that the title Nadesico is actually a word play of Nadeshiko...)

EDIT:: First post has been updated with PICTURES! A lot of you had changes that you couldn't make before the deadline, but it's the best we could do eh. I should have a sampler out soon!

Okay, I've got the frames and stuff done, and in fact I can dunk the digital version out soon.
I just have one question to ask all of you. So while I have versions of the art of a high-enough resolution to print on A3, what should this digital version be like? In other words, what should the resolution of this final digital release be? The final release will be a locked and protected PDF file, but of course there'll be people out there who can break through the protection and extract the artwork.
I figure some of you won't really care, but there are also some of you who'd rather not have high-res versions of your art spreading around the internet. So what do you think is the resolution I should use for the final release, and what quality (eg. 80% or 100% jpg)? For example, we could have a high-res but low quality release. Or, should there be a watermark of some sort? (I'm really against this though, since watermark or not, it's still high-res.)
Some of the entries have "FAKKU" somewhere on it, but a few don't. We might want to add it in somehow; it can be tiny, it can be part of the picture, I dunno. It's your work, so I'll let you decide.
The sooner you guys get back to me, the earlier the digital release goes up!

I wonder if the digital version would be like a wallpaper. I think if the word Fakku is already on the images, there would be no need for watermark right?
And on the quality, I guess a lower quality images would work since it uses less mb and as long as the images retain its quality I think it would be good.
