First forum experiences

jeez...only one person comes even CLOSE to me. I started with forums when I was 16. Yes waaaaaay back in 1996. I honestly can't remember what one it was, just that it was a gaming forum.

Fakku was my first real forum (before that just minor game related ones and only a small amount of involvement). Come to think of it....it's still the only "talking to random people about nothing in particular" forum I've ever cared to bother with. I'm not an incredibly social person and would rather spend my time playing games/reading/whatever than frequenting multiple forums talking about nothing.
As for my experiences....well you could just not be lazy and search for my older posts... I guess to give a short summary: I showed up, was confused at what exactly my criteria for voting for people in Mote Mote was supposed to be, was greeting with actual replies to my non-standard titled M&G thread, tried to get to know people, spent some time in IRC, beat Waar to elder by a hair (this was before the days of people becoming elder within a week), stopped spamming, saw Klown get more rep than Jacob, saw lots of IRC drama happen, and...ok you know what I think I've described several months of time right there, you people can find out the rest on your own (or ask me specific questions).

My first forum experience was on Podtacular (Unofficial Halo podcast/etc.)
I left it when the original hosts left.. but nowadays, I go back there once in a while to check the updates (they have new hosts).

Never stayed with a forum for more than a week or two till I joined Poke-community sometime around 05/06. Was an ok place, acted kinda high and mighty but relativly newbish. Then I forgot about them after about 2-1/2 months, and came here around 08 and have at least visited the site near daily since.

Banter aside, I forgot about the Proboards main support forum. I might have even joined that before I joined Gametalk, but I don't believe so. They were within close proximity anyway. I miss those days. I learned so much about how to manage forums, general internet etiquette, BBCode, etc...
It seemed like all of my friends had their own Proboards account, and subsequently their own forum. None of them took off, usually, but it was still a blast learning how everything worked.

I remember joining EGM's (electronic gaming monthly) forum before they turned the forum over to a third party and before they became 1up. It was a hilarious place to be, and the writers of the magazine frequented the board too. Unfortunately, like many gaming boards during the PS2/Xbox/GC era, it desended into fanboyism and brother turned against brother in a massive flame war that caused the admins to commit seppuku rather than deal with the chaos.
