they are, regardless of their wishes. The IRA and Northern Ireland have had a truce for a while now. The violence has been on a downward trend for years, it's not quite the incident that it once was. edit: Shag, sorry I didn't clarify, English are those from England, Great Britain on the other hand is made up of all those countries, including England. So everyone from England is British but people from Ireland/Scotland aren't English. Get it?
[font=Verdana][color=green]They aren't! I don't know if you're trolling me or not, but I can tell you with absolute certainty that the Irish are not British in any way. Just because the IRA have calmed down in recent years, that doesn't mean that the Irish Government have agreed to be British.
Just wondering, do you live in the UK? o:

Over all i think that Europe is cool i don't hate them or anything, even Russia. the people im most interested in would probably be ether the English or Italians. the people who im most annoyed with would be the french because of the whole indicant with the Gypsies (im American so forgive me for not knowing the proper word for Gypsies if there is one) and they protest like crazy.

As the others from Europe I don't really see myself as a European, rather than a Swede, and my feelings about Europe are rather divided, there are both good and bad things about Europe as a continent, as well as my own country.
I guess the first thing to come to mind would be the European Union, since after all... It's in the name yo. ;O
And I like my own country's history, as well as the overall Nordic mythology, few cultures have been as violent yet have quite equal rights (compared to other cultures at the same time) within the country itself.

I guess I'm disqualified, since I am from Germany. But I've been living in the US long enough to consider myself American. And I absolutely can't believe some of the utterly stupid prejudices some Americans have towards Europe. It makes me downright mad! Of course, not all is right with Europe - especially in the political department - but where is that not the case?!
As for what European culture I'm most fascinated with, that would be the Mediterranean cultures of Spain, Greece, Italy and Southern France. Although I'm pretty much all over the place with my interests.

There's too much left activism and environment activism and muslims.
Except Poland Italy and Spain.
EU has shitty laws!
The biggest immigration problem have Sweden and Germany.
Germany has stubborn politicians.
The gun laws are too strict.
Full metal jacket bullets are not even allowed in rifle clubs in Germany.
The best countries in Europe are Poland, Spain, Italy and Croatia.
..well greece is ok too.
Oh yeah!!
The EU should stop picking their nose in matters of world politics!
For such an unimportant union it's even worse than USA!

I think Europeans are the biggest assholes I know.
But when I think about europe I think of Germany and Sweden(two countries where my dad's side comes from)
And the only country that I'd find fascinating would be Italy mainly cause of cake boss and assassins creed 2 lol

my bad, I was under the impression Ireland was still part of Great Britain and had not changed in 1927.

There were those silly anti Irish hiring signs way back in history, but that was mainly because
Spoiler:
Besides that, I don't hear any or even know about any prejudices. And for most Americans, Europe is just a continent. Only the larger countries are well known, and we just have opinions of individual countries. The EU is just seen as a device that gives all the smaller nations in Europe the ability to compete with the USA (U.S.A.:states as European Union:small countries).
If you asked an American off the street what they thought about Europe, they'd probably say, "Its pretty cool, it has France and Spain, right? My aunt is French." or something along those lines. Each Caucasian American feels they have some connection to Europe - sort of like a "mother land" - even if they know nothing about that country.
Side note to Britain: Most Americans, although perhaps incorrectly, assume Britain is part of Europe. Also, practically nobody here knows how the difference between England, Britain, Ireland works. They think England and Great Britain are the same thing and Ireland is its own country and that it is very green.
We aren't very good at World Geography because we have to learn about the history and location of each one of our own 50 states. It gets overwhelming after we cover "The Louisiana Purchase" and try to figure out why Hawaii is under our control (apparently there was this deal with some Queen...), but Puerto Rico isn't a state. Throw in having to learn about why we have a SOUTH and NORTH Dakota and Carolina and why there is a West Virgina but no East Virgina, and we give up once we have to learn about Europe and southeast Asain.
Also, Washington is a state and a capital but located on different sides of the country.

Five words sum up my entire feeling about European culture and politics:
European Union needs to dissolve.
If there was ever an organization that demonstrates just how poorly unified government bodies operate *coughUnitedNationscough* it is the European Union. It was a bad idea from the start, and now the EU is up to their necks with issues concerning Ireland, Greece and United Kingdom they are completely helpless. Perfectly demonstrating that good faith practices don't necessarily make strong governmental bodies.
To be fair, Europe generally holds the same prejudice. I have quite a few friends who live in multiple European countries and most of them have at least some varying level of disdain for the United States. A lot of it stems with us blaming the other countries for our problems. It's easy to lay the blame on someone else, admitting that it is at most only partially responsible for your problems isn't.

Never been, but I do want to go. Europe has an incredibly rich Motorsports history that they deserve alot of credit for. Nurburgring and Cseaucescu's Folly alone are reasons to love the continent. Then there's the cultural history and the sheer variety of food and cuisine. Not to mention the Kalashnikov rifle and all it's awesome descendants have come from European nations. Jeremy Clarkston, James May, Richard Hammond, Sabine Shmitz, ect...
It's almost enough to offset the rampant socialism and strict gun control.
Actually, I wouldn't mind living in Switzerland. Dig the SIG-550 out of the closet and go to the range on Saturday, then take the car to Nurburgring on Sunday. a perfect world...

I love Europe’s rich culture and history. It’s hard to find anything that can match it.
But when I went for a trip to Germany I found the place full of non European immigrants and most of the people I talked to were total assholes. But they do have nice cars and cheap booze.

It's also a most recommended travel spot for anyone in the U.S. military for active duty.
Safest location to go to, too (for some reason).
I'd visit my WC3 buddy in Newcastle University (he came from Lithuania). He shares interests in hentai like I do haha!

I'm from Europe (Poland specifically)
Personally, I feel more like European than Polish. Partially because most of my ancestors weren't Polish, I moved out into a different country, studied in different language etc, etc.
Yes, European Union is horrible, inefficient, inept and incompetent, but there're good things about it too. Like making it possible to escape that cesspit of shit, misery and assholes that was my homeland.
But on the downside, everybody is sitting on their asses and waiting for Union's donations rather than using them to fix shit up. That, and the "Union" part is just bullshit. It isn't a union in any way, shape or form.
But in the end, Europe's pretty diversified. So there are multiple cultures, all with good points, but also bad.
In a way it represent just how diverse the human race is.
And that's my favorite part. There is just so much diversity. So many different myths, languages, food, even landscapes.
As for what first comes to the mind when I think about Europe, it would be: Aristocrats, War, ethnic cleansing, pastries and Enlightenment.
Most interesting European culture? Scandinavians. They have fascinating myths. France is also pretty interesting.
