...Ireland is its own country...Ireland is it's own country, we just established that.
I mean one that has nothing to do with Great Britain or the English people in anyway.
i think they voted a while ago. split between northern ireland voting to stay with britain, and the rest of ireland telling those limey bastards to fuck off.
or something like that.

Um, what part of it?
Been to a number of countries within it, and like what I've seen so far. Not always ideal but yeah it's a wonderful continent.

Hmm i don't know really since i never been there.I generally think they're very rule-following people and have a very distinct type of culture much different to the states.I am intrigued by Europeans...they're so different thus alluring haha. The first thing that comes to mind when i think of Europe is pastries including breads and such,i'm such a big sweet tooth and all haha.I would love to visit all the bakeries and eat it all OM NOM NOM!
I'm really interested in French and Italy the atmosphere there seems to be full of life and magical. And have good pastries it seems.. gah i'm a sucker for sweets!!
You'll love it over in Holland then. We seem to have taken making sweet pastries into an art. You should definitaly try the typical Dutch sugar bread. =P

I like Europe and I reckon its worth fighting for!
When I think Europe I think about that fuck awfull yank film 'Eurotrip' but honestly everywhere in the Worlds basically the same from what ive seen. (Language differences are a motherfucker though)
To quote Jim Kelly A.K.A 'Willams' from the film Enter The Dragon: "Ghettos are the same all over the World... They stink!"

^ I like Eurotrip. :p
Some really odd replies here. Interesting, but odd (lol socialism, geography). I'm always a bit taken aback at most Americans knowing very little about other countries (sorry to generalise). It's kind of understandable what with the myriad of states and importance of local history, but it's still completely alien to think that standard history, geography and plain general knowledge wouldn't have 'abroad' covered...the Monroe Doctrine was a long ol' time ago. But then I guess most people here know very little about the US, myself ultimately included; most of it is probably from films and TV shows or news snippets, which for all the reading I do is why I hesitate to comment on most issues.
What actually puzzles me the most for the 'melting pot' nation is an apparent inability to cope with accents, like when they had to subtitle Trainspotting, and the obsession with glitz and glamour. I'm sorry to say it, but European cinema is (at least currently) faaaar better than Hollywood, not that I don't appreciate the odd mindless popcorn film or diamond in the rough. But enough about America, because that totally isn't the question.
Can we just clear up once and for all that the United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales - there's a reason why the rest of Ireland is called the REPUBLIC) is part of the EU and thus Europe, just not the 'trading zone' thingy, the relevance of which I don't honestly know. And I am all for it...though I would probably live in the US were it so easy.
Anyway, I particularly love Germany and Italy for their rich histories and cultures, war relics very much included (Pompeii and Sachsenhausen are easily the most 'enriching' places I've ever visited), and I found everyone in both countries to be exceedingly friendly. I would love to learn German beyond my measly handful of years at high school. Europe as a whole...some retarded governments around the place, but generally wonderful. We're united more by footballing rivalry than political institutions, it has to be said. :p

Although, it's more like English, Spanish and Italian clubs play in the Champions League, with the other countries clubs on the side ;) Apart from last year, I know...but that was just a terrible Champions League..

I'm a Chinese(from Shanghai) in France
"What are your opinions about Europe?"
Well it's quite OK basically, but it feels really...strange when it's only 8:00 PM and u go out to buy a pack of cigarette or a coca or whatever then u found nothing.
"What comes to you mind first when you think about Europe?"
An old-style street filled by cafe/beer drinking white people.
"Which European culture are you most fascinated?"
I'm interested in Poland.

We're united more by footballing rivalry than political institutions, it has to be said. :pOur lack of interest in "football" or as we call it "soccer" may be the reason we don't have more interest in other countries :P. Really, we also aren't anywhere near any other countries besides Canada and Mexico, and we got the Mexico part down pretty well, and Canada is like a little brother country that we share culture with in so many ways it doesn't even feel like a foreign place (at least the one time I went to Calgary - it still felt like I was in the USA.)
Still I just wanted to point out that from an American point of view, Europe is a land mass and we don't think of the countries as a whole. We only consider each country individually, and do not think of them as a whole on basically every faucet of discussion. You ask an American what they think, and they'll probably answer like gizgal said: "Um, what part of it?"
And like I said, I surmise that it is because there is a pride in your heritage when you live in America. Someone is either Italian-American, Irish-American or Polish-American or maybe say they are German decent etc.. Nobody wants to say they are European-American, even if their background comes from a multitude of different cultures.

This thread reminds me of Hetalia. I'm not sure if that is a good thing.
I'm Finnish, and personally have a no ill will against Europe as in EU. It is a try for a bunch of small coutries to have a say in the global issues, Germany and French as club leaders. In theory I support it, even though everyone can see that the current system is... not quite working. It has been speculated, at least around here, that after what happened to Greece and Ireland Germany is gonna go "I ain't paying your shit!11!!1!" and leave, and then other countries will weep after loosing their leading star.
I have more negative feelings about Europe as a continent. I've been on a roadtrip around it a few times with my parent (they have some, I don't even know, major Europe fetish)and, accorrding to my personal experince, the more South you go, it goes crazier and crazier. Germany is still fine, but beyond that I would turn back, no matter how great the cultural inheritance. The countries close to Mediterranean are scary.
Must be something in the water.

(cue The Final Countdown)
Anyway. I would love to visit my motherland someday (Ireland). Then there would be the usual suspects; Germany, Greece, Italy etc.
So, yeah, Europe is pretty awesome; discounting some of the government stooges.
