Ipad - Why Such a Big Deal?
0
I can understand people being excited about Apple's new Ipad, I really can, but the shit being said about it is too fucking crazy. I just heard some guy on the news say that the Ipad was "the Beatles of 2010." Really? It's just a big Iphone. How is it going to change technology and the way we look at the world?
This is in Random because I'm not a technology buff, and I want to hear what other people that don't keep up with all the latest technology stuff think about the Ipad. If you want to talk about why the Ipad is a holy item sent from God, please keep it simple, so people like me can understand it. After all, I know not everyone excited about the Ipad is a tech wiz.
Also, don't bash each other for this stupid shit. Bash Apple and the Ipad all you want, or praise them all you want, but let's not make it personal.

I despise all I-bullshit. If I could, I would gather an army to rise up against Apple for the sole purpose of wiping any trace of that technological shit stain from existence.

I do actually keep up with the latest of tech but I still don't see the point of the iPad, the only use it would have for me is when my laptop does it's yearly breaking down thing.

And here I thought college humor was kidding when they made that Video about the iPad. Such a device actually exists?
Anywho, I think (Opinion) it's a big deal to people (mainly all the teens who love to buy the latest iPhone, iPod, etc.) because it does two things. One, it allows them to show off their wealth and ability to have the latest and most technologically advanced phones, ipods, etc. And two, which ties into one, it's trendy, hip, etc. Ever notice how all the teens want the latest phones and such? When the iPhone came out just about everyone wanted one. It seems almost like it's not about what the phone can actually do, but what the phone allows you to say. "My phone is better than yours".
Like you Shaggy, I'm not a technology buff. And unlike the poster above, I don't keep up with the latest tech stuff. So my opinion isn't all that accurate. But hey, that's just my take on it.

I think Apple is taking this thing too far, but if people are willing to pay money for all the crap they shell out...Then damn, that's just good business.

I'm very off-topic.. I've been working full time and the only thing Ipad related things I've heard of the last couple of days was it's release being talked about on the news.
Anyway, everytime some new electronical gadget appears, there usually is a big fuss around it. Give it a couple weeks, and no one will talk much about it...
Once I've read some more on this sbject, I might be able to give a more interesting answer on this subject, but right now, I have only time to sleep ,eat and work 8D

inb4 ImperialX rage.
It isn't, as you say, going to do anything for innovation. It's another fashion accessory, a half-way house which does lots of things badly, although that's not to say that it's useless. It's just because the iPhone took off so massively, despite being so pricey and Apple being a new player, that pundits anticipate a huge uptake. Apple can do no wrong.

Like I said, I get people being excited about it. But people are saying crazy things that can't be true, right? Beatles of 2010? Revolutionize the way we look at technology? Even the Ipod didn't revolutionize technology, just made things more apparent to more people.

I have yet to see someone who actually owns one, and many of my friends are "hip and trendy." I dont think this is going to sell as well as everyone hoped.
I COULD HONESTLY HAVE MORE FUN WITH A ROCK.
A chart to support my point that the iPad sucks:

Apple is very good at marketing, so they want people to think it's the biggest thing ever whenever they launch a new product. It doesn't always work, though. Remember AppleTV or whatever they called that thing?
They have a lot of cred built up in the media for being so incredibly successful with the iPod. It wasn't the first portable mp3 player on the market, but it was the first extremely successful one. Same thing with the iPhone, it was an extremely popular combination of existing concepts and effective marketing.
It looks like the iPad will be fairly successful, but if Apple ever tries something like this and it's a huge flop, you'll see all the same media outlets laughing at them because they're used to the "build them up and kick them down" stories after covering celebrities and politicians for so long. Look at Toyota for an example of this now.

Yeah, while I personally think that the iPad is a quite cool device I can't really think of a distinctive use for it, it has no place. It's an oversized iPhone that you can't make calls from.
Can someone tell me what's so special about this except the fact that it is a humongous touchpad?
The quote "I'll by anything if it's shiny and made by Apple" comes to mind.

Actually, yeah, I can see why people would like it. It's:
Portable
Bigger screen
Bigger battery
Can do stuff
[/list:u]
But then again, it can't do much, doesn't last long enough, isn't big enough to be effective, is a touchscreen (which is bad for something like this, it slides on surfaces too easily), and looks weird to carry around.

Simple web browsing, e-mail, a few games, and a pretty simple interface could theoretically be perfect for someone who isn't good with computers. It would also be really good in a confined area like an airplane cabin since it can play movies.
The big test is going to be how people actually use it in real life. I don't plan on getting one myself but I'll be very interested to see how it's caught on in 6 months. If it catches on big, it means every other company has to try that much harder to make good alternatives.

I agree it isn't anything special and the price tag for the Ipad in the next few months will be ridiculous but ignoring all that...
...neat stuff to be honest. I'm a happy Ipod Touch 16GB user myself. Use it every day for all kinds of stuff, mainly listening to music of course.

That's what I use my iPhone for, music. The phone part is just secondary.

I guess the touchpad could make some things more efficient, like web browsing or watching movies but typing on touchpads are just so annoying.
But yeah, it will be interesting to see what people will use it for. My friends father managed to win one on a company lottery or something and was overjoyed(Since he's the greatest gadgetfreak I've ever encountered) have to ask him about it.
