Ipad - Why Such a Big Deal?

Hmmm, I heard this was just an April Fools trick, but I guess I was tricked. It looks pretty cool :3The Ipad came out long before April 1st.
On his show Tosh.0, Daniel Tosh even hit an Ipad with a golf club. That aired, I don't know, a month ago?

Really? It's just a big Iphone.Technically it isn't, since an iPhone can make calls and has 3G built into it.
Think big iPod Touch.

I was just about to say this. The only reason why I didn't buy one was because of the price, and the fact that it still has no flash support or jailbreak yet.
However, that still doesn't mean I don't want one :D

And here I thought college humor was kidding when they made that Video about the iPad. Such a device actually exists?
Anywho, I think (Opinion) it's a big deal to people (mainly all the teens who love to buy the latest iPhone, iPod, etc.) because it does two things. One, it allows them to show off their wealth and ability to have the latest and most technologically advanced phones, ipods, etc. And two, which ties into one, it's trendy, hip, etc. Ever notice how all the teens want the latest phones and such? When the iPhone came out just about everyone wanted one. It seems almost like it's not about what the phone can actually do, but what the phone allows you to say. "My phone is better than yours".
Like you Shaggy, I'm not a technology buff. And unlike the poster above, I don't keep up with the latest tech stuff. So my opinion isn't all that accurate. But hey, that's just my take on it.

The joke they were doing was the fact how over the top the advertisement for the Ipad was. I threw up a little in my mouth when I watched the real ad for the Ipad, because they were talking about it as if it was... a god. If the Ipad had a dick and balls - Microsoft sounded like the dick was in the back of their throat and they were then massaging its balls.
It's a neat little piece of technology for someone like my mom. Who doesn't do much on the computer and just does things here and there. But I don't find any use for it.

Well that explains the college humor video.
Looking at the video, I can see why you mentioned them talking about it like a God. They pretty much did. I suppose it goes back to what LD said about Apple being good at marketing. The video does seem to make it seem really amazing. Looking at what it can do, I can see why the iPad seems like a big deal to some people. It's really not bad. And what's more is that it's only $499.99. That's less than the Playstation 3's original price.
Would I buy one myself? Nah. Not that big a deal to me?
But would I prefer having one over not having one? Yeah, it's a pretty sweet piece of technology. Imagine Fakku on the iPad? Revolutionary. Lol.
Thanks for showing the vid~
Anywho, that image posted by Badass was pretty funny.
Edit post shortened.

I might get one to read e-books, since its the same price as a Kindle XL. I play DnD and a laptop is too big for the table with all the other stuff on it. Plus browsing in an e-book would be faster on a touch pad.

It also has a terrible commercial.
Does Apple just have a tendency to hire terrible people to create their ads?

I-Pad fails IMO its just a huge ass I-touchThis has been repeated so many times, but you have to admit it's still an interesting device, as a bigger screen and more processing power will allow for some interesting new apps. The fact that it's also more convenient to use around the house than a computer/laptop for quick web browsing and media is another plus.

The big deal really is just the convenience factor, and because of the pricing it can fool people into believing it'd be a great replacement for a computer. Although it could probably do those things, it wouldn't be a great replacement. It seems more like a casual thing, for someone with a lot of money. :| Let all the spoiled girls wearing uggs get 'em. Not like they'll be satisfied with it.
Also, although the product is 'ehh' worthy, it brings great buying motivation, like the "I bought a new toy" feel :] and with the release coming tomorrow I'm sure Apple Shares will be doing well. I guess it's a good way to put money into the economy, as long as Apple is paying it's employees well. I guess [going off topic] the only reason why money is so short is because the rich spend their money on expensive goods, so only those who have high wages control where the money goes.
Like, if I'm a small restaurant owner it's highly unlikely that an owner of a billion dollar corporation will be paying me a visit, so I don't get some of that cash to pass around :[

I have yet to see someone who actually owns one, and many of my friends are "hip and trendy." I dont think this is going to sell as well as everyone hoped.I COULD HONESTLY HAVE MORE FUN WITH A ROCK.
A chart to support my point that the iPad sucks:
Spoiler:
LOL, fucking loled.
Anyways back on topic, I really don't think this a good investment to spend cash on. There isn't anything unique about it like CB pointed out. It's just another way to make profit, at least that's what it feels like to me. It's just something that has been made but improved by making it bigger and more easier to carry, as Rove pointed out.

Of course, do make sure that once the devteam gets a jailbreak for the ipad (since it also runs on iphone fw) then there will also be many more features, such as emulation and perhaps multitasking as well (just like the backgrounder app on the itouch/phone).
Also, I hope to see osu for the ipad once it's jailbroken

Haha, successful thread is successful. Quite a few discussions taking place, all related to the original topic.
Good post. It's pretty much what I was saying about the iPad being a sign of wealth. Sometimes it doesn't seem like people want the latest phones and gadgets (including the iPad) for the objects themselves (and what the objects are capable of). It seems more like it's something to have since you have the money for it and can show it off to friends.
On another note, lol.. I actually think the commercial is pretty decent.

Now if only it would support multi app usage.
Unless it does...?

If it gets jailbreaked and they get something similar to the iphone's Backgrounder app then a multitask is possible.
