The human apperance in the future...

In 100,000 years, if we don't have the capabilities to splice human and animal DNA, we've done something wrong.

I think we be dead by then.
most people live in too clean environment that more kids now have asthma or other problems,
plus we have super bugs like MRSA and over next few hundred year will get more super because as we use too antibiotics and clean too much that more bacterial/bugs/virus will develop resistant.
Humans also have a history of killing and waging wars with everyone that we can't live in peace and will either end up killing each other

Human genetic modification, well caste may be revived in a similar manner to Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, assuming we survive that long. Humanity may well less itself to a terminus by then, and I see that as a very likely possibility. If we do get there, and we have genetic modification we would probably self evolve ourselves out of being human altogether. Remove unnecessary bits like the appendix, restructure the eye to no longer be upside down and backwards, shrink the adrenal glands, increase the cerebral size, rework the knee, rewire the peripheral nervous system, and do countless other modifications. Classism would reach unheard of levels as the rich bid for genetic perfection in their offspring whilst the lower classes suffer genetic imperfections, the very idea is almost totalitarian, whoever controls the most financial power can control the quality of their offspring which would be groomed to lead the lower classes. The rich would be superior in almost every way, an unsettling thought.

Genetic diseases and hereditary diseases can be avoided just like vaccinations of today. I am personally convinced that genetic engineering, if one takes a general definition of it, has been going on for quite some time from in the form of breeding, grafting, hybridizing, arranged marriages so on and so for.

We're talking about genetic engineering in 100,000 years. It will begin nobly enough, but give it time and eventually we'll overreach ourselves and use it wrongly.
