as well as motivating people to post and vice-versa.Oh, I wish. I'd totally start using the rep system!

Speaking your mind can get you a nasty backlash if you don't have the same opinion as the "hivemind". Correct. Rep is the cry of the virtual lynch mob.
You old cynic, you. :p
I think the only part of that which might be swayed by response is the first; aside from pure interest, the topic serves to air opinions and list the nuances of the system, without resorting to proper discussion --> arguments of worth. It makes for a better tool of judgement should the day ever arise.

I +rep people when I believe they deserve it. Like when I feel that they say something meaningful. I have not, and maybe will never, -repped anybody. I believe that if you are against something someone says then be pro the opposite... well that is what I believe anyway, sorry if it does not make any sense, hahaha...

Uploads and only uploads. I would much rather have the people who deserve the rep receive it rather than "punish" those who I think are ignorant and stupid. We should be intelligent enough to realize the difference when someone is a dumbass and when someone is truly giving something good to the community, by the quality of their posts, not how big a number next to their name is.
I do this, too.
Edit: I also +rep for some requests and will fix a negative rep that clearly doesnt belong. I recall LACP completed the request of someone not too long ago and received a -rep for it. The fuck is that?
Quite frankly though, all the drama over rep here has pretty much degraded it's value to nothing, when it should just mean how many times you got thanked. This is the only site where I've ever seen people complain about rep. It's kind of funny, really.

I havent used the rep system here yet but I have had similar experiences in other forums which adopt a similar format. There are people who dereps people randomly or if they have a personal grudge towards that person, but the other 90% of reps are usually genuine.
I usually give reps for posts that are informative/creative/funnie/romantic, and only tend to give negative reps if they are bulling or harassing other people><Overall though it is just a system for fun and helps encourage posters and let them know they are an appreciated part of our community!

Lately I've been just letting my reps add up, and save it for someone(s) who help me with a request or a general question that I have. However, I will sometimes -rep someone for being an asshole or just generally be stupid because they think they are funny.

Well I think maybe I have become alittle paranoid with the repping because I now am to scared to post anything that I find people might disagree with and -1 rep me.

It really isn't indicative of anything. Don't get me wrong a lot of people have high rep because they upload, post art, or post stuff in Nosebleed; but many others only have high rep because it's like a dumb high school popularity contest.

I rarely -rep someone unless I feel like someone has posted something offensive or obstructive to the community in some way. I'm actually pretty lenient towards those trolls however, as I feel that my rep would be better spent + repping quality nosebleed/VN/Anime uploads

I don't ever negative rep unless I feel someone really deserves it, not that it would bother that individual. Most people who have lots of negative rep or post in a offensive manner on purpose really could care less about their rep. It at least gives me self satisfaction even if just a little.
Like RBZ, I haven't touched the rep buttons in quite a long time. It's kind of like voting now. I don't do it because it makes no difference. If something is rep worthy someone will surely rep them for it. My rep won't make them jump for joy any higher and the small extra bit of joy it might give them is not worth the effort to me to concentrate for those finite moments to click the plus rep button.

I had to learn that the hard way a few months ago. I ended up -repping so many trolls and stuff that I was wasting rep for good posts instead of feeding the trolls the energy they live off of. Hehe.

I have both plus and minus repped people. It's not for much that would make me laugh, or much I disagree with. It's just chaos. It doesn't happen everyday, either. It's just there, and it's funny.

I +rep people for making me laugh or for saying something I think is interesting enough to be noted by them getting +rep on it. Or for praising me or otherwise sucking up. I -rep people pretty much only when I see they've gotten +rep for something that I feel really shouldn't be rewarded for (often enough I feel these comments should in fact have earned them a punishment instead).
I'd go into more detail...but I already have like 200 times.

I hardly rep anyone (a rep per 3-4 days). I mainly only rep them if they make an epic post or just made me burst out laughing. I don't even touch the -rep either.

I try to keep it at no rep. If it's +1 I rep down, and vice versa.I do it to be fair. :D
Wait, wait, you de-rep other people for having a rep (on their post) because that's supposed to be fair?

To me the value of rep is that when someone contributed/upload H-game or video that I am downloading I will surely +rep them. I never use my de-rep button before. Why should I waste my rep on de-rep someone you hate instead you can +rep people in the upload section to make them feel happy that they have contributed in the upload section.
