The value of rep

the value of rep died to be when a thread I made (the waifu game) had something like +11 rep and was reduced to 0 over time. At this point i think the rep system is beyond repaid and deserves to be put out of it's misery.Only in IB and Chat, I might add...
true, but the brokenness of the system makes the true value of rep worthless. We have users that rep people because they are friends, or because a girl has tits. Other users derep because they argued with a user once and don't like that user. It makes the value of rep given for good reasons worthless. Do you think it's right that a new female user can amass 10+ rep in her meet and greet thread when some uploaders who have been here for years and continuously upload have less? People will continue to abuse them system as long as it exists the only real solution is to get rid of it; we did once and the forums looked much different, better.
I have to agree. Fakku was a better place during the week the reputation system was gone. I pointed out before, but it really isn't indicative of anything. Hang around for more than a week, and you know who the uploaders, contributers and generally good people are. We don't need some arbitrary number to tell us the worth of the user.

Honestly rep wasn't really a problem when I just joined here. But Somebody has just made it look "bad" in some people's eyes.
My value is rep is the same form as a simple thank you and I don't even need to post a thank you post that will obviously clutter the thread.
this is why I want the -rep to be removed, since nothing good will come out of it.

I'm just like any other user when it comes to rep; I'll rep someone if they've done something that deserves a high five or -rep to spite them.

Honestly, I think we're better off without rep. It just seems to cause endless bitching about it, which is silly when having lots of positive or lots of negative rep points doesn't seem to affect anything... except e-peen.

I agree they should remove the -rep button it make the user feel depressing when people anyhow abused the -rep button.

- rep is good for when people might have arguements so they don't rage over a thread for hours on, but when it's abused it's pretty messed up.

and yes I agree and support kaimax's suggestion of removing -rep.

I'm on the record stating that I don't believe -rep should even exist. People bitch over losing rep unfairly for one. No one follows every situation, but on many of the situations where one might think it would be warranted, it's not effective as a deterrent. A lot of the people who come to Fakku to be idiots are happy to get any kind of attention, positive or negative. It is more effective to ignore idiots and let the mods deal with them if they actually break rules than to fight them, mock them, or -rep them from a deterrent point of view. Some people claim that they enjoy mocking the people who post dumb stuff, but still, one can't do this with words? We need a -rep button?
So I never use -rep, and I don't even use +rep very often either. If I directly ask a question that someone answers well or someone provides uploaded material that I partake of, I will +rep them out of respect for the fact that they may view rep as a valuable commodity, but in general I don't think rep is very important and so I don't use the system very much.

While I think -rep for dumb shit is totally ok, -repping a valid opinion you just don't agree with is stupid as fuck.

Have not +rep/-Rep anyone because I don't have the ability, and when I get it(if I ever do I wouldn't see a need to use it. I see it like an e-penis the more you have the bigger it is the less you have the bigger the e-chode. I've not bee here that long so I don't really understand what this system here is for if you get anything for it or not but then where I have been before, that uses this system it causes nothing but grief.

I -rep idiots that doesn't respect other people's opinions.you know that is a hypocritical statement, someone who does not respect others opinions are stating their own opinion. it's how debate's and discussion's start, but I do agree, people do sometimes tend to get a bit overboard and use overly charged wording in how they present their arguments.

I think he may have worded wrong. He probably meant like people who bash on others for their opinions like in a rude manner. Like openly arguing with them on an opinion isn't something that isn't allowed as long as it's kept within context.

Heh sorry about that I get argumentative sometimes. It's part of my caustic nature, it's easily brought out anymore because of the fact that I've been deep in thought about thing's lately and my Philosophy classes from a few semesters ago are still fresh in my head. If I do say something like that don't take very much heed to it. It's just me, and my ways.

I +rep when I see what I like and -rep (very rarely, however) when I see what I don't like. Not concerning my personal taste, but what I think is good for the site.
When people upload stuff, that's good, so they deserve +rep. If people troll or are rude, that's bad, so they deserve -rep. It's about trying to send a message about what Fakku should be like. And while I realize that I'm being subjective in my view of Fakku, I try to look at it from a grand point of view. I wouldn't -rep someone for making a thread about masturbation, even if there already were ten threads about jerking off still on the front page, because that's not major. I'd like to not see that sort of thing happen in the forums, but it's not something that anybody should take any major steps towards preventing. Being an asshole for the sake of being an asshole might be worth -rep, if the person has done it repeatedly. The person shows a disregard for the feelings of others, and the forums shouldn't be like that. (We don't all have to like each other, but we should all be able to post without being mocked or insulted for no good reason.) And if someone does something destructive, like posting an unsafe link in a thread, that definitely deserves -rep, because that sort of activity cannot be tolerated.
That said, I don't take it too seriously, even if that does sound hypocritical after that massive paragraph. I don't expect a reputation point to make a huge difference, or any difference at all in many cases. But it can have a small effect, and that might make Fakku a better place. I'll use rep when I feel it's necessary, but I'm not going to make sure I use it every day or place an emphasis on using it.
