OS Xlike~less virus panic attacks, saving money, photo-graphics..
dislike~loosing files because after 3 months i still can't get used to mac as i've been using windows since age 7. Also gaming is a little more limited when compared to XP.

That's what I'm using to play any PC games I can't find on OS X or do without.

Ubuntu Linux here.
Great usability, no need for spyware or anti-virus scans, and it runs smooth as silk, even though I'm running nightly builds.

I'm on a dual-boot xp/vista, where i use vista for gaming (because of directx 10) and windows xp for anything else. Although i am starting to wonder if i should change it all back to xp, vista is giving me lots of problems with crashes and whatnot whereas xp never had a problem, directx 10 isn't really worth all this since there aren't that many games with it yet. I guess if i want a stable system i should go for linux :? Too much pain installing apps and drivers if they aren't in a package, and no latest games.

Many thanks, good sir. That will be much easier to deal with than bootcamp. I remember the days of virtual pc, when it swallowed your ram, hungry for more. thank goodness for vram.

I run XP media center. I really like some of the features and visual feel of Vista, but personally feel they changed too much. And honestly i feel that the main issues people have with Vista (the OS in general, not software problems) is caused by the companies selling it on systems that just barely meet the requirements. With this, the only thing most people experience is a crippled OS because it can't run like it's supposed too.
I really wish i could put together a system and run linux on it to give it a try. I've never had the chance to try it for myself -_-

Or, the fact Apple have this perfect niche, they only have to write an operating system, programs and drivers perfectly optimised for one set of computer hardware, as compared to Linux and Windows operating systems that have to be very generic to support a whole range of crap. This means that they have magical stability whereas Windows and Linux built computer have extensions. In all reasonableness, I actually find no reason to buy a Mac. I've found people asking for them from other companies are designers who want to look trendy.
Larger built in userbase? The first Macintosh was released in 1984, whereas Unix was in development around 1970s. I can't remember Linux dev timetable.
On dedicated user community, you don't get any more dedicated than a whole load of coders fixing an entire operating system to work every day of the week. Open Source is what Linux is all about, which is better than 'shareware' which is normally a demonstration of a product. "Software that is available free of charge; may be distributed for evaluation with a fee requested for additional features or a manual etc."
Open source means the entire program comes to you, and you can edit the code behind it at will with no legal implications. As for a visual pleasing OS and marketing campaigns, those tie in with designers who want to look trendy. And usability is rapidly becoming a problem of the past. Take Ubuntu for instance.

Vista Home Premium. Which really doesn't suck that much as people say it does. :POnly because you haven't tried the alternatives, believe me...

I've got Vista Ultimate on my desktop. I've got Slackware 12.1 on my server. It's not that bad, that Vista. Have you tried it for longer than 20 seconds?

I switch between Vista, XP, Ubuntu (Hardy Heron), Fedora (Core 9), and Open Suse (10.3), mostly due to my job. XP by far has the best image viewer though, so I mainly fap in XP.

Linux is probably my favorite OS, but I use XP because a few programs are incompatible with Linux(though with a bit of tweaking they could be made compatible).

i already heard that Microsoft will be coming out with a new windows some time early next year, so guys u r better off waiting for that to happen.

The ability to mousewheel through entire sets of pictures in a folder is awesome and when you open up a picture you can have it be full screen. You can also configure what your mouse buttons do: like zooming on, hand tool, etc. Just overall excellent free image viewer that looks and works beautiful.

Interesting rant, Hibia. Several really good points.

I must admit in shame that at the moment I am mostly using VISTA due to the fact that my Photoshop hates Linux *sob*. Though whenever possible I use Ubuntu / Debian. Wouldn't the world be nice if Linux would be the supported system #1? :P

My one and only experience with Vista was when I first booted my new laptop. One of the things I tried to do was to install Alcohol 120%. Vista rewarded me by entering a vicious cycle of booting up to the screen before opening the windows desctop and then restarting! The problem endured even when I tried to enter through Safe mode to erase the program!!!
I ended up doing a full format and then replacing Vista with XP, which work fine.
I know a lot of people like Vista (I personally like the image viewer, the merging effect with the previous picture is perfect for watching HCG!)However I just do not think that a O.S. that was produced in a hurry to replace its previous edition which was under development but scrapped because it was too resource-consuming, is better than an O.S. that has been used, tested, upgrated, patched and finally reached a satisfactory level of stability after 7 years on the market...
