What would you say your political ideology is?

By that, I mean that I'm with the Founding Fathers: government is nothing more than a necessary evil, and should be treated as such. It should be kept to the minimum size and power necessary to fulfill the needs we have of it, and no more.

Were the world an ideal place, I'd be an anarchist. However, anarchy can only function well if all people are good and decent individuals, willing to do their part and not shit in their neighbor's yard. Further, even in such a situation, it probably wouldn't work out; wants and needs are unlimited, resources to fulfill them are not, and thus people would inevitably come into conflict over them.

Large-scale socialism just doesn't work because of human nature. When you can get something for free on a consistent basis, it's human nature to take it for granted and lose motivation to work for it. Before long, the few who buck the trend and consistently stick to their work ethic would either be ruined by the stress of carrying the weight of the slackers, or otherwise revolt against the new bourgeoisie who profit from their labor.
Communism can only work for awhile, and only so long as the government is able to maintain its iron-fisted control of all the people.

...returning to my original point.

The U.S. Constitution is an excellent document, and an excellent basis for government. It extols the liberty of the people and assures limitation of the government's ability to interfere in their lives and freedoms. As it stands, however, the government based upon it has almost completely lost sight of its significance.
I'm in favor of dismantling and restarting the current government, bringing it back to the Constitution from which it began. No mishmash of legislation, no "precedents set by judgment", just enumeration of natural human rights and a structure in which to keep them safe from threats foreign and domestic. This can be done civilly, I'm certain, but it will take a lot of work. I hope to see it within my lifetime.
