Why do people say Fakku is dying?

Various communities I am in say Fakku is dying and they are shifting to other sites. Why do they think this way?

Though seriously speaking, the forums have been rather lacking in activity for a long time, even before Fakku started going legit.

Because they equate free manga to a successful site. I call it millennial privilege because they've been indoctrinated that everything that one wants can be free. Problem is nothing on the internet is actually free. Someone else paid for it to be free online for them. Everything you download on torrents or read online/watch online was ripped from an actual disc/program/book/magazine or TV signal. Sharing is caring but there comes to a point when what we're sharing hurts the people who make the content.

In fakku case they didn't really have a choice it was either take down the stuff that got the C&D or get sued. Jacob just tried a different approach and started working with wani. And for the most part it actually helps a little bit more. Now we have something that's totally different from what was a year ago. Uncensored an unaltered artist content without the Japanese censorship we all know and hate.

In most cases of the people saying that fakku is dying and ruining the Internet. Now some people can't afford it. Even though all the books digitally are out there in the webs. The magazine content for the most part has been ripped and shared. How is this a indicator of fakku dying or ruining happy pirate fun time is unknown really because you can literally find anything anyone prints anywhere. It just takes time.

In a good number of the people who are pretty much are too lazy to Google. Me personally I could probably find everything that Jacob ever prints for free but I just decided to see what happens. I mean its only like two Starbucks coffees a month.

I think there are a few different ideas here.

People don't think for themselves
There's this idea someone started which suggests that we shouldn't have to pay for porn. But it's completely unjustified. People like to chant this because it's what they want and it's convenient for them as advertisement supported content is something they don't have to open their own wallet for. This is going a little bit off topic but I want to thoroughly cover this point. Advertisement funding is something most people like to take advantage of because they're often shamelessly shoving costs elsewhere. Advertising doesn't work when people don't click on them and open their wallets. There's no circulation of money if this doesn't happen. In other words if you're completely ignoring ads, someone else is paying for the costs associated with the content you're viewing. None of this happens for free.

People don't seem to have any confidence in FAKKU
Not sure why, but people don't believe FAKKU can succeed in what it's doing. There's no firm justification for or against this position. You can sort of extrapolate from early analytics data that traffic is trending downward. But that's to be expected. A large proportion of regulars here don't wish to pay for premium content and there are some who can't take $10-20 out of their budget for hentai. Putting this aside, I think FAKKU is doing good business. I've never felt dissatisfied with anything I've purchased. Every official localization they've done holds up to a very high standard of quality. Even if you look at the entire set of English manga publishers FAKKU's quality is still outstanding. Maybe even the best, I don't know. Service wise they're also great, although it's kind of a shame that we can't have magazine downloads. With that out of the way I think here the only argument that could hold water is that the service model is doomed to fail, and I don't believe that is necessarily true. We really can't make a judgment on this without long term data and there isn't anything of the sort available to us.

Not much to say here. Some people are just salty about the DMCA takedowns, some are just following mob mentality. Again, people should just think for themselves.

Ultimately I like what's happening here. If it fails, and I hope it doesn't, then that's that. But I'll wait for that to happen before I decide to jump ship. I've gotten my money's worth so I'm pretty satisfied. As with most things, people shouldn't knock things before trying them. But of course they'll do it anyway.

I say this as a reader, not a scanlator, and I mean every word I say: Fakku Books has been a blessing to the people of Fakku and they don't even realize it. If it was for scanlators they would only get the filth dripping off Wani's ass, let alone filth in general (and I'm not speaking about art obviously). Now everything goes in english, they get dozens and dozens of chapters they would most likely not get otherwise, there's a price to pay but from what I know about scanlation (quite a bit) it wasn't gonna get any better for them, only worse. Scanlation scene has never been so awful, and the dmca and Fakku have absolutely nothing to do with it. I can totally see why someone would bitch and moan given how Fakku started, but the people leaving aren't exactly doing it for greener pastures, unless they like raws.

Then again, some of the people who complain about Fakku are the same jackasses who to this day (with Fakku Books currently under way for much cheaper fees) pay scanlators that barely know japanese 20-30$ for a single WANI chapter just to go "fuck the police", so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've learned over the years that most people who say this only think it for one of three reasons:

• Because someone else said it (usually because they're bitter about the site due to some kind of change)

• There's less activity than there used to be and they don't like it (but aren't doing something about it themselves)

• or both

In this case it's likely that they may just dislike Fakku's transition into going legit (i.e no more unlicensed freebies) and are unwilling to subscribe for their porn. Which is fine, in fact it was expected. People can think what they like, but with this arrangement everyone wins. The authors, Wani, and western consumers who finally get in on the market legally which until now was exclusive to Japan. Ultimately hentai was only pirated due to the lack of a market in the West, but eventually people became complacent and expected for it to be free forever which has evidently caused a rift between the freeloaders and those who genuinely want to support the market.

There was nothing they could do about the DMCA except to comply, and striking a deal with Wani is mutually beneficial; we get good quality porn for a small fee, and their authors get paid for the work they put in to create it. Had the DMCA been ignored, Fakku really would have died. Completely. No more website. Like so many others before. This is what people need to understand.

What communities are you speaking of? Just curious.
Anyway, Fakku couldn't be more alive right now.
And I'm talking from the PoV of someone who never liked/cared about this site.

The statistics show a 15.6% increase on average over last year so I would say that fakku's growing

I love the way the site is going. I think its making real steps forward and starting to erode some of the stigma about hentai that our society currently seems mired in.

With Fakku becoming more legitimate forced lurkers can come back into forums with trolls leaving.

This was right. Same opinion here.

I'm not that much a fan of hentai sites since I prefer paperback hentai. After purchasing some of their books, I've amazed at its quality. So I came back here to further support Fakku.

Being legitimate and legal was really a big move but it was a good move to further expand the culture outside Japan. And since the Fakku has big community, the target market for them was pretty vast.

For those saying that Fakku was dying, it was just the salty stingy teen-agers that can't afford to expend for high quality hentai.

At least, the Fakku community was being cleansed from the bunch of trolls and ass-wipes.

It doesn't die. it mutates

Unless... you know, acquitted of all charges, or he's doing time on probation or some shit? That's actually a really terrible and dead-end analogy since it implies that Fakku would and should forever have remained a piracy site.

Even hypocrites can redeem themselves. Just a matter of they understand why they're hypocrites and they know how to fix it.

The activity dropped heavily which is usually a sign of impending death. I've just about stopped coming here completely because everyone I know or care about also use the IM's that I use so there's no real reason for me to actually be here, I just check it out every now and then out of boredom.

So in other words, legitimacy is betrayal? For the entirety of my life, everything was always "pay-to-play", or "pay-to-enjoy". Be it movies, video games, TV, toys, etc. Even as a child, my parents constantly drilled into my head "nothing in life is free". It's hard to imagine that fellow adults can't seem to grasp that concept, considering they're older, and thus should know better. The entitlement from these so called "adults" is mind-boggling.

If anyone actually feels betrayed, why don't you just go make your own hentai website?

Jacob did it as a college student. If he could do it, then what's stopping you? Do it bigger, do it better. If this site is that bad then it can't be that hard to make something superior. Don't know how? Learn how. There are countless guides on the internet that teach you exactly how to build websites. There are plenty of examples out there that you can just copy+paste into your own project. The information is out there, ready for the taking.

FAKKU does not belong to you. If you want control then do it yourself.
