Why do people say Fakku is dying?

The "poor artist" shtick is a myth, they make more money than engineers. Hell a good number of them get over half a million USD per year on average. That doesn't make scanlations and Fakku's past suddenly legal.
Singers and actors also make millions but that doesn't automatically mean it's legal to download their songs and movies just because they're rich and won't feel losing money.

The outdated old business models only started changing thanks to piracy. Now DRM is the main enemy, and its sad that Fakku has embraced it for its subscription model.
Oh well.

now that its gone away from being free to being pay-to-play it's almost a betrayal. So in other words, legitimacy is betrayal? For the entirety of my life, everything was always "pay-to-play", or "pay-to-enjoy". Be it movies, video games, TV, toys, etc. Even as a child, my parents constantly drilled into my head "nothing in life is free". It's hard to imagine that fellow adults can't seem to grasp that concept, considering they're older, and thus should know better. The entitlement from these so called "adults" is mind-boggling.
It's a betrayal because scanlations built the site and everything it has become, and then Jacob cashed us in for a paycheck.
It doesn't go much further than that. There were plenty of other avenues to make this "legit", but Japanese copyright holders cling to insane, arcane methodology.
He simply rolled with the punches for an easier payout. Hey, it screws the people that are directly responsible for everything you have, but you've got a new payday now, so to hell with them!
That's the anger sentiment behind this. These artists would have NO western audience, at all, if it weren't for the scanlation scene. Throwing a bone instead of a spoon to gouge us would have been nice.

So do tell, What are these "other legit avenues" that Fakku could have taken? Feel free to pour in your suggestion, fakku is all ears for every Realistic proposition.
Scanlations were removed because they were illegal. You can't run a legit selling business while still operating as a piracy site. Go Ask 2008 CrunchyRoll the experience of being legit while still uploading unlicensed fansubs.

They still need to be paid. Heck, despite the knee-jerk reaction, people still doesn't give proper credit to scanlations even when they have to pay the cost of getting the raws, hiring page cleaners, translators and editors for each chapter.
How much money have you donated to a scanlation group?

No one who has been suggesting this has been able to produce a realistic solution. They all assume that a business would be glad to engage in illegal activities just for some small, no-name company. (Fakku is still largely a no-name company in the entire scope of things)
I'm still shocked Wani was willing to allow these sort of things but I'm guessing it's either due to:
A. Jacob and co. are good at negotiating
B. Wani already had some inkling of wanting to tap into the western market
C. Wani business people are really proactive/open-minded.

That's the sad thing. For how much people say they felt betrayed, it's more likely than not that they have never once contributed to the scalation scene.
Unless you're the leader or maybe the translator, you will get almost no credit whatsoever. Sure your name is on the credits page but most people skip that, you have to find self-satisfaction in it. Or even worse, they remove the credits page which is a big "Fuck You" to the team.
The main people who contribute are those paying for these translation through commissions or the e-hentai bounty system, which is just a decent size group of people.

Something I find amusing is that pirated copies of FAKKU works have been floating around for a while now. Some people have read them without even realizing it. The subscription chapters don't have a credits page to begin with so readers of those would have no idea unless the poster went out of the way to give the heads up. Which they almost never do.

In short, they are upset over our move to becoming a full legitimate site with no scanlations. They see all these other websites with scanlations and wonder why FAKKU doesn't just stay the same. But, most of the time, they have no knowledge of how those doujinshi end up on these sites. They don't understand that these works are the result of blood, sweat, time and tears of artists in Japan. Who intended for these works to be sold in Japan to support themselves. The ultimate joy of an artist is being able to support yourself with your art, so that you can produce more art. Because it is your hobby, your love and your life.
Sorry, I'm rambling :p but that's basically the short version in my personal opinion.
The "poor artist" shtick is a myth, they make more money than engineers. Hell a good number of them get over half a million USD per year on average.
lol... what? Where are you getting this information? Because unless you're one of the top 10 artists in Japan, who constantly has work, it's very difficult to keep food on the table sometimes. Especially for lower tier artists who only just went pro. When we're talking about doujinshi artists, those that only sell at Comiket and are not pro yet, the income is even less and is more of a side income alongside their full time job.
Another situation you have to realize, is a large number of the well known artists aren't just fending for themselves. Many of them also have kids and spouses. This means they are not only having to support themselves, but them as well.
I can assure you based off my relationship with a large number of well known artists in Japan that it is no myth.

I would take this as a question asked to the general populace. A hundred dollars in total (more or less) for the scanlators of Arachnid and about 50 (more or less) for the previous scanlators of Watashi ni XX Shinasai(but they dropped it after awhile so... yeah....).
Which brings me to a point I want to raise. There are people like me who are fine with supporting/paying the artists for their works but it's just that sometimes, just because of your luck to be coincidentally born somewhere outside of Japan, we're unable to do that. "Akebono Zome" a work which I saw a preview for in pixiv was a work by Sakura Circle and I really wanted to support it but when I was about to order it I found out that they don't ship outside of Japan. So, what am I to do then but wait for a scanlator who somehow managed to get a copy of the work and post it (and true enough they did)?
I guess what I'm saying is that if FAKKU can make available these works, despite having to pay a fee, maybe some people especially me would be more welcome to the change. Now, I am sure in the future you will have other products etc. but certainly not the current ones some people like. And certainly it seems that you're not all inclusive in what you want to sell. Therefore, for some of us, we're not disappointed that some contents are not available to us for free, but rather we're disappointed that some contents are not available to us at all.
And even then, let's say we struck gold and a site offers the specific content we want. Not everyone has the privilege to use their credit cards so freely and this is more apparent if paypal is not an option.
With that said, FAKKU made a decision and it's a decision I respect. Indeed a company trying to be legal cannot have a hint of illegal factors inside it or it would be hypocritical. Just understand that there might be some who are disappointed not just because of the money involved. I suggest to have some sort of a poll to find out which deleted works were removed and have a certain number of them set aside. Then, I suggest reaching out to the artists of said works, gain their permission or their partnership just to have those available. I don't know, this is just from the top of my mind, it would be best to just disregard this as ramblings of a returning member so either way I wish you all the best!

Just go to other sites that are stripping this sites content and reuploading it....they might have stopped the major players from doing it but the smaller sites are exploding because of this. This wouldn't be a bad deal if for $13 a month I got access to the other major doujin/hentai sites but it's not worth it for 60 chapters a month where over half I wont even look at. I would almost rather pay a small fee per doujin than a monthly rate.
Till I can do that I just get the same stuff else where, even if it takes more time to get it. This is the internet after all, they can't stop everyone :)

Of course, it's not like you can BROWSE THE ENTIRE WEBSITE with your subscription.
I love how peoples like you distort reality in your words to make the deal look like shit.

That's because to me it is a poor deal. I have all the older content I could possibly want, and majority I can still get for free else where (content fakku doesn't own) so the only "deal" for me is new content, which I might keep/download 20-25% of what I download.
Just because you think it's wonderful doesn't mean I have too as well.

To be fair you can look through the whole website but the chances of getting a majority of stuff you like is pretty rare especially when you keep rereading the same thing over and over again, there's still the issue where we don't know what comes every month and we can't keep or download our favorite chapters. Paying for the same chapters over and over again can seem like a pretty rough deal so i don't blame others for thinking the price isn't worth it.

I agree, which I will make a list of what I can't find else where and when I have a big enough list (100+) I will buy a month and get it all at once. To me that is a good deal, it's worth the asking price at that point. I do the same thing at doujin-moe but their content has become very spotty (they seem to snag more content from others than translate their own) so it's every 9-12 months with them.

Your taking the top 100 earners and using them as the average. The average artiest in Japan brings in around 28,000 USD a year. I couldn't afford to put a roof over my head for 28k a year much less take care of necessities.
