Why do people say Fakku is dying?

why don't you just go make your own hentai website? That's the reason Fakku is "dying" tho, because we don't have to. There are so many, and 80% of them free, hentai websites these days and most of them either look better, work better or are actually free (now that Fakku isn't).
The only thing Fakku has nowadays is the forums which are populated by some of the best friends I've ever made but because of things like Skype, Discord and Teamspeak I don't have to use the forum to actually communicate with them so even that goes down the drain.

Actually I intended to contradict myself. There are some big barriers to entry (e.g. name recognition, SEO) that would really hurt someone's attempt to start up a competing service. It would be really hard to pull it off but I suppose someone determined enough could actually do it. Part of that point is that FAKKU is undeniably a success by certain metrics. Yes it has many flaws, a lot of issues don't get fixed. Nobody has to remind me what exactly is wrong.
You can say FAKKU is worse because it's not free access. But that's only from the perspective of the "free" user. From FAKKU's perspective that's not true at all. FAKKU is now one out of only two (afaik) prominent English H-manga publishers. If you can prove that there's enough consumer demand for English hentai then you have an opportunity to build a sustainable business. I believe FAKKU has done so, and as far as I can tell they're now expanding their operations. You can't just do that if you're unsuccessful.
As for the forums and community... I'm not sure. Maybe it's dwindling but I think that started long ago. A lot of forum users don't even use this site to browse hentai anymore. This place is mainly a communication hub for them and for the most part there won't be any difference. I mean nosebleed and requests are going away but I figured those were kind of dead already. I don't know, we'll see about the community.
Anyway the bottom line is that sure, ultimately not everyone wins but that doesn't mean FAKKU is sunk. I'm sure traffic to the site will fall dramatically after scans are removed. Is it going to die? I don't have any reason to believe that. I think FAKKU is changing, and not dying. For better, for worse I guess people can decide for themselves but I'm pretty sure this site will be around for at least 5 more years. If that holds true how can anyone reasonably say it died? Maybe it's dead to you, but as someone who is very satisfied with what FAKKU has accomplished so far in the publishing business, I believe it is very much alive. I'm more excited than I've ever been for hentai. I'm absolutely thrilled by what I've gotten so far as a customer and what's to come in 2016.
So for every time someone says hey this site is dead just go to ex or nhentai I feel the need to stick my nose in and say hey, give FAKKU a chance. This isn't a black and white story. Free stuff isn't the world, and the reality is that nothing is truly free. Everything has a basic cost, and that's time. Many hard working people put their time into making all of this possible, so why not just consider for a second that what they're doing doesn't suck?

The way I see it, FAKKU is dying. I've been here for almost 8 years and I don't feel the same sense of identity that I used to feel. I can't say that I was a significant part of it, but in the past FAKKU felt like a family. These days, I look at the forums and, in the rare instance when I want to post anything, it feels like I have to introduce myself to a bunch of strangers.
I was happy being a Haunter, but I evolved into a Gengar because of you fucking people. I'm not gonna let that shit go.

If the Trans-Pacific Partnership goes through Fakku may end up the only h-manga website accessible in the US. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act hit Fakku because of Wani's copyright claim and is leading to the removal of scanlations.
And if the TPP goes through doujinshi about copyrighted characters will become extinct. Online anime streaming sites, torrent sites, Devientart, e-n and ex, twitch most of youtube and all forms of fan art will be illegal.
If you though the DMCA removals where bad the TPP will be a hundred times worse.
"Any derivative work, like fan art, cosplay or doujin manga, can fall under a criminal offensive even if the original rights owner doesn't file a complaint."
"Penalties that include sentences of imprisonment as well as monetary fines sufficiently high to provide a deterrent to future acts of infringement, consistently with the level of penalties applied for crimes of a corresponding gravity;"
I hope it doesn't go threw, but if it does I would rater pay-to-play then go to jail.

I don't think people would be half as mad if there were other subscription options, not everyone has or is willing to pay the monthly fee. The current model is a one-size fits all, and not many people like that. There are tons of different ways to offer cheaper subscription plans by limiting the amount of content.
Here are some ideas (no pricing):
1) You are given a set amount, that doesn't carry over, of doujin/mangas per month and you can select the ones you want to read. i.e.: you are allowed to view (X) different uploads a month and you choose which (X) you want to read. The ones you picked are always there and don't count against you.
2) Another pay-for-what-you-want is tag/artist subscriptions, you pay for doujin/mangas that have the tag(s) that you want and at the end of the month you are charged for the amount that fall into the tag/artist(s) that you subscribed to. The price should be less than that of the normal subscription.
3) Similar to the first one, but every month the list of what you have read gets reset. i.e.: you view 20 different doujin/mangas in March and in April you view 5 of those 20, unlike the first one, those 5 would count against your number of views for April. If you favorited something each month those would count against you, so you have 10 favorites, 20 would be docked off at the start of the month.

Spoiler:
I never had any quarrel with this and you aren't at all wrong which is specifically why I wrote dying in quotation marks because Fakku isn't actually dying, it's only dying for the free user, i.e. me. I have, at the time, no source of income and even if I did I wouldn't spend it on hentai on Fakku and thus the only thing I come here for, which isn't often at all anymore, is the forums.
Fakku is undoubtedly successfull and more than likely going to live for atleast 5 to 10 more years but the transition from free to pay is a big one, especially in this day and age where the internet gives you almost everything for free and considering that Fakku has been completely free for a long time. There is no doubt that Fakku is helping publishers with what they're doing and they're even getting us decensored, high quality work but for the free user this is the end of an era. Do we deserve to have any of this for free? Of course not. Will we still be upset because we've been put in a very comfortable position for a long while that is now being changed? Of course.

I still don't get all the fuss.
There have always been plenty of alternatives to Fakku that have much more content.

It is dying. This coming from a user since 8 years ago. And the other guy is right about being hypocritical. You don't start free, gather reputation and users and then realize there is a chance to make money with the "loyal" (read brainwashed) users that think giving money makes them all so superior.
Enjoy your pay per view model while it lasts. Remind me of all those subscription games that people pay for the first months and then returns to being free to play with micro-transactions.

Yeah just look at all this "growth":
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/fakku.net
From being at around 5k in rank to now being below 8k in rank.
The rank has declined 1730 positions in the last 3 months only.
Yup, keep drinking that koolaid but I'm gonna go with either greedy owners or they have a massive lawsuit on their hands for not being smart and hosting all of this in servers where copyright wouldn't bother them.

Honestly, I just miss the loli. And other tags that were taken down. There still there. You just have to enable the conversational filter to off.

I got really excited for a moment before I saw it was already toggled for that. The problem isn't the lack of tags, it's the lack of contents in the tags. Thanks, though.

It's a bummer. I've been coming here for about 7 years; the forums were always good for some laughs.

In short, they are upset over our move to becoming a full legitimate site with no scanlations.
They see all these other websites with scanlations and wonder why FAKKU doesn't just stay the same. But, most of the time, they have no knowledge of how those doujinshi end up on these sites. They don't understand that these works are the result of blood, sweat, time and tears of artists in Japan. Who intended for these works to be sold in Japan to support themselves. The ultimate joy of an artist is being able to support yourself with your art, so that you can produce more art. Because it is your hobby, your love and your life.
Sorry, I'm rambling :p but that's basically the short version in my personal opinion.

I don't think Fakku is dying, I just think it should.
They seem to have removed all free content, and have gone full Jew by doing so.

The "poor artist" shtick is a myth, they make more money than engineers. Hell a good number of them get over half a million USD per year on average.
