Are you afraid of dentists?

I myself am VERY afraid of them. Or more like of going there and of what they do to me. Dentists themselves are as normal as anyone else (I hope).
I havent been to a dentist after I turned 16 or 17 (thats over 5 years ago), and the dentist memories from that time arent very good. They never gave me local anaesthesia, so I felt everything, and it hurt alot. And it didnt help that the dentist I had to go to then wasnt very good.
Now after many years I got really bad tooth ache last month, so I had to go to emergency dentist (dunno what the real name for it in english is) to get it temporarily patched up (wtf, like I know dental words in english :( ) and after that, today I went to dentist again for the same tooth, cause they needed to do THIS to it :(
And 2 days from now, I need to go and get 2 of my wisdom teeth removed.
AND after that I wait a week, and they do the rest of THIS to me, and make that tooth whole again.
But I'm quite happy that now the dentists give me the local anaesthesia without even asking, and both of the places I've been to were nice and the people were nice, cause I told them I'm afraid of letting people in my mouth.
This really is too much for my little head, its too afraid of going there. I even had to ask my bf to accompany me to the dentists place today, cause I'm pretty sure I wouldnt have gone there if I had to go alone :(
And now, this really doesnt look like a poll, its more like me crying about dentists and using the poll as an execuse to cry to you. But I tell you, it isnt like that!!! D:

I used to be, but now I'm not. I think it does kind of depend on what kind of person you get doing it though too. However, I totally understand the fear of them. I've had every nasty procedure imaginable done, so after you go a fair bit etc. it tends not to bother you as much. I'm not going to lie though and say it's painless, some stuff definitely is. Heck, sometimes the shots hurt more than the actual reason you're there.

Not at all. It's not like it hurts, and when it does hurt it's because you don't brush your teeth so they have to scrape extra hard also usually teeth and gums are sensitive.

I can say from personal experience that a visit to a good dentist can take that phobia off your shoulders.
I had SLIGHTLY unsettling run-ins (lost half a tooth to blunt trauma and had it repaired without anaesthetic) with a dentist earlier in my life, and due to that was equally SLIGHTLY uneasy about visits to the dentist's. Then I went to a dentist specializing in phobia patients just once, and ever since I go to a regular dentist, twice a year, without so much as even breaking a sweat.
I very much suggest you look into phobia specialists in your area. It'll save you a lifetime of toothaches and fear.

Early in life I had a douchebag of a dentist, and he would be like, this doesnt hurt! and I would have really hard gums so the dentist would have a hrad time numbing my teeth. where I would be at the point of flailing and telling him to stop and I was about to pass out, due to a phobia of needles he finally gave in got, into a fit and stormed out of the room.
Other than that, I have no problem. But some people just dont have patience for 9 year olds.

Not afraid of dentists, but I hate going there because when they drill and shit, it feels fucking strange, making me uncomfortable.

After going back and forth to dentist for my braces, I'm not afraid anymore, although the drilling sounds still bugs me..

Today when they did those things to my teeth, they had to widen the canals or something, so they did something that felt very weird. It was like they screwed a tine screw in the hole, then pulled it out, to get a bigger hole. And they did that many times.
Also, because my mouth was so numb, it felt like that tooth was in the middle of my palate (really its on the upper left)
Those 2 things added together, it felt really strange.

I've had Three Deep Cleanings so far, they're unpleasant if you have an inexperienced dentist messing around in your mouth but my last one was actually pretty painless. As for fear i don't really get that anymore since i know in the long run it'll be good for my overall health.

Don'T know how to put it.
It's not pain, but it feels so indescribable I can't help but call it strange. Though there are varying degrees of strangeness, obviously.

I went to the dentist like 3-4 times a year when I was younger since I needed braces that I never got since I have a baby-tooth with no permanent tooth under, pulling it out will most likely fuck my mouth up or something, they spent a lot of time making moulds, taking x-rays and shit trying to figure out what to do about it. So I've gotten kinda used to it, but it's not like I enjoy going there.

No, never have been. I have a decent, nice dentist, and I've had loads of trouble with my teeth over the years (some rare-ish problem that makes the enamel thinner). Hate that grinding drill that makes your head vibrate, though. :P

I'm not afraid of dentist I just don't like them. I hate the idea of someone fucking around in my mouth and I cant to a thing to stop them. And the needles are scary as hell, just imagine if they slipped.....My brother on the other hand hates dentist with a passion. When he and I where 8(Twins) he had a nasty run in with a dentist who hit him the face. He has since gotten over his fear.
I use to have braces and I hated the drilling cuz of the awful feeling and smell.

I dont like going to the dentist, whenever I go, they find a problem and insist that I come back, also, the thought of getting a tooth pulled is the stuff of my nightmares.
