Is Masturbation Really a Bad Thing?
0
Growing up, I never understood why masturbation was considered "bad" or "not good". I was raised in a VERY religious household and my mother would always tell me, "Don't masturbate; it's very unclean and you'll go to hell if you do." Really? Where in the Bible does it say, "Do not masturbate?" There are many benefits to masturbation such as stress relief and prevention of prostate cancer. It's also a pretty fun hobby. Think about it, which is more productive, smoking cocaine or masturbating? I think we all know the answer to that one. If I were to have kids someday, I wouldn't care if they masturbated or not because I know it isn't a big deal. What I'm saying is, why is masturbation considered "wrong" or "bad" by some?

Sex is for making babies.. fapping makes you cum... your cum is babies waiting to happen.. they rather you bring a kid in this world full of humans instead of jerking it. Too much jacking is bad for you.. you never leave the house. Fapping is fine in moderation.

No its not bad. Its just you discovering your body. The followers of God can be real crazy sometimes. Coming from a catholic myself.

I don't see a reason why it should be considered immoral or such. As already mentioned it solves stress and you can prevent yourself from doing something terribly stupid while being in a long distance relationship..^^
Religion tries to meddle with everything anyways, that's just one of those.

One-sided topic here, bro. Aside from the possible "addiction is bad" route every argument will be thought as hypocrite. If you want a serious multifaceted discussion you should consider asking in another place, where's not so much porn lol. But if you want that feeling of reassurence - go ahead.

Dude, didn't you read this sentence? I know it's pretty silly asking a question like this on a porn site, but I still want to know what other users think.

Doing it in moderation is best. But when we are young, that term is subjective at best. Do it when you feel like it, without doing it so much that it affects your everyday life.

NO. It is NOT a bad thing!
You're asking this on Fakku. You're not going to get a different answer. It's like asking if video games are bad on IGN.
Also, not the Bible, nor' Quron, NOR' Torah ever mention masturbation. Read it and see. (But many pastors who don't believe their own religion would disagree.)

Though intimations of it being "unwelcomed" were already provided. For example Matthew 5:30. Look it up if you want.

Guess we should start gouging our eyes out and cutting off our hands right about now. *Laugh*
OT :
As a Catholic, I do not find that masturbating is a bad thing. Plenty of men do it, and I'm pretty sure the same can be said about women. It's a good, natural way of relieving stress.
It is true though that masturbation is looked down upon certain religions and cultures, but, that's a minority out of a majority of the world's population that do masturbate.

Raised in an Irish Catholic family, I can tell you right now that it's bullshit.
Given the overpopulation- I would actually encourage people to jack it more and make babies less.
Or just start double bagging to make sure no l'il fetus rears its ugly mug.

Masturbation is an exploration of one's body, its a perfectly normal thing for people. And honestly, if they say you will go to hell, think about it, a lot more horny people in hell than in heaven right?

I personally don't believe it's a bad thing, it's simply getting in touch with your sexuality, but of course as mentioned time and again, moderation is key, you don't want it to turn into an adiction. And by the way, i feel your pain I come from a very orthodox roman catholic kind of family, the same pureness was expected of me (or rather is still expected from me) but i really refuse to have my sexuality and my knowledge on the subject boycotted.

If the question is, "is masturbation a bad thing?" then the answer is obviously "no," as people have already said.
If the question, however, is, "why is masturbation considered bad by some?" then this can turn into a real discussion.
I'm not religious, and I don't know a ton about any religion, so I'm not sure why religion seems to dislike masturbation, if any religions do indeed dislike it, but I do know a bit about the societal problem. There's a long history of puritanism in America; nudity and sexuality used to be seen as abhorrent and incredibly sinful. Of course masturbation would be seen as very bad, as it was engaging in a sexual act for no reason other than pleasure.
Funny story - graham crackers were made to keep people from masturbating. As Wikipedia says, Sylvester Graham (the maker of the graham cracker) believed that crackers and his special diet "would prevent people from having impure thoughts and in turn would stop masturbation (thought by Graham to be a catalyst for blindness)." Why he, and other people, believed that masturbation would cause blindness or other maladies, I have no clue, but the idea has been around a long time.

seriously, I've been through that experience...trying to cut down on it though
