One Earth, One Government

Say humans manage to live for millions of years without destroying each other,do you guys believe that all countries on Earth would eventually be unified under one government or will we always be separate countries?

People have different opinions and different choices.
Some people prefer Communism than Conservative or Liberal.
By saying "not destroying each other" and "one government", I think what you mean is everyone has the same points of views on everything and has the same opinion and mind about everything.
1. That will never happen. (but you said what if)
2. I guess it would have one government considering no one has different opinions

The only way I see humanity banding together as one world government is if we have some aliens to contend with that essentially forces us to come to that conclusion. I very much like to compare it to how siblings will always be at each other's throats, but when an outsider comes into the mix they'll band together against him. Same concept, applied at a global level.
Other than that, maybe if one country conquers the entire planet. Not likely in today's world, but might be possible in the future. Unless one of those two were to happen, I think we're gonna be stuck with a whole lot of governments functioning in much the same way we do now.

If we continue to live for millions of more years and are all still stuck on this one planet we'll probably either have one unified government which has prevented us from destroying ourselves/the planet or we'll have fucked things up so much that there would be no point in having a government at all.
Now if we do expand to other planets then I could easily see planets becoming the equivalents of countries or even states and having groups of planets being a country but I don't think we'd ever have a unified government for every planet we're on.

Even if natural resources on Earth still existed for the human race to exist in the next millions of years, so long as humans remain capable of individual thoughts, conflict and different governments will continue to exist. The world is too diverse in opinion to ever become truly unified. It's hard enough for politics to operate within individual countries alone, how could it possibly work on a global scale for a single government to successfully operate?
There's also the economics side to a unified government as well that complicates the situation: how would the central bank be controlled? Because economic performance widely varies from region to region, how would a single interest rate be decided?

It's Quite possible but what kind of Government? Communism? Democracy? Dictatorship? Empire? Parliamentary? What would work to hold it together fear or Togetherness?

Perhaps one day when things settle down, the government could congregate and become some big ass federation or something.
Or it could be a result of some uber disaster, forcing humanity to unite.
You can bet that there will be rebels and terrorists, no matter the type of government it has.
Total War and conquest seems very unlikely nowadays, since everyone is looking at it in a cost vs gain fashion, nobody at the top of the totem pole will wage war as it will ultimately be unprofitable, with the scale of weaponry we now have. Back in the days there was a "us verses them" mentality in war. Now it's all about "what can we gain."

Kind of Important
A ray of Tsunlight.
Indeed. It'd have to be after a contact scenario. (ET life and all that)
Basically, it's going to happen, and it's literally such an important issue (even though it hasn't happened yet) that already there is talk that history will be broken down into pre-contact, and post-contact.
Chances are, after that, we'll get over our petty ass differences, and focus on the much, much larger picture.
I hope...we'll be screwed if all we can do is fight ourselves for the rest of time.

heh, if we cant come to gether when we are show hard evidance that we are NOT alone in a galaxy as massive as ours we deserive to be wiped out.
on a side note. it is my personal belife that it is infact humanitys "first contact" that 2012 refers to. people always focus on the doomsday portion of it but the fact is its EITHER OR. depending on mankinds actions it can be a new begening or the end of all.

As one who's values run nearly parallel with communism, I can say that reason dictates that capitalism will consume the entirety of the world, eventually destroying itself from within by global revolution, with socialism as it's replacement.
However, where my ideology goes askew from traditional communist, I do not see communism as the final state. There will always be a need to adept to new experiences, and socialism will need to be replaced just as socialism replaced capitalism, and capitalism replaced feudalism.
But because of socialism the Earth's population will be without borders.

It's only possible if only an event happens that force all mankind to the same point of view.Such event that would push our humanity as a whole, say a catastrophic disaster hits our planet or our existence as humanity at the brink of destruction.
Quote this from The Earth Stood Still movie starring Keanu Reeves:
"...but only at the brink of destruction, people understand what their purpose in life..."

The more people there are, the more unlikely it is that everybody will have the same opinion about everything.
Therefore, it won't ever be possible to do that.
Even if you Gleichschaltung everything, you won't ever be able to Gleichschaltung the minds of everybody.

Either that happens, or humanity go BOOM! (very much likely)

I like the idea really but the only way for this to happen is for those who are willing to go on with this to combine forces under one flag and invade the other countries that refuse to join.
There will be lots of death but will it be worth it for the good of humanity as a whole?

War is unlikely put any danger to humanity. Not all countries in this world as happy trigger as USA does.
I was more stressing on disaster part.Say, a huge Jupiter sized chunk of meteor came out of nowhere and hit us?
Before that even happens, there will be a huge shit hit on our planetary event...

If people think all problems would be solved if we're unified, then they're wrong. Just look at families, they're unified but still have their struggles.

Yeah, only way the world will ever become totally unified is if humanity was being pushed towards extinction (first contact with another intelligent civilization perhaps? We've never been good with first contact if you look at the history of human beings. Perhaps some terrible catastrophe).
If anything it will be joint efforts of all the nations under the jurisdiction of the United Nations.
