One Earth, One Government

As we look back in history, governments are getting more and more unified throughout the ages.
cities->Kingdoms->Unions(E.U/U.S.A)
Logically, one day, it will englobe the whole thing.

I suppose it might also depend on what you consider as "unified".
It just might be a possibility that "powers that be" already rule all, but prefer to maintain appearance of fractured world until it will be beneficial to do otherwise.
Maybe far-fetched, but why not?
There's also a chance that the future will belong to corporate systems. A "League of Ruling Companies" instead of U.N is increasingly likely.

Hypothetically it could work. If every person on Earth was brainwashed by propaganda into believing the same morals and values under a Fascist rule. (aka Nazi Germany - except on a global scale)It doesn't have to be specifically a Fascist government. Communist, Socialist, Theocratic, Isocracy, etc. Democracies and Republics would be the hardest to institute a one world government. Types of government that emphasize community over individual have the greater chance to spread a common moral or ethic system.
Certain economic models do the same thing by leading to a greater interconnection between countries and drives the world towards a single currency to simplify trade.

Humans are naturally crave for freedom, and that will make a one-earth one-government an impossibility. Everyone would fell that they should take control of themselves not a dictator.

Is not possible, because, as you can see in history, when you try to control a very huge territory, you lose control over people, and next over that land. As my signature says, ¨He who defends everything, defends nothing¨. You can apply it on this topic, because, you want to control all the land, so the goal becomes that and not to mantain the people on it.
So, if agovermant tries to rule in all the worl, anarchy will take it out.
Just an opinion from a history fan.

And FPoD you say impotent? If a government is not moving towards new laws all the time, does that mean it is impotent. Thank god the U.N. isn't passing new resolutions everyday.I originally missed this post Neko-chan otherwise I would have replied sooner.
When I say the U.N. is impotent I mean they are unable to enforce their own resolutions because of the rampant corruption within the organization or the incompetence of the member states on the security council. Lets look at sanctions against Iran. I believe we're on round four of sanctions and the most recent ones Iran just laughed off. The organization has no teeth or claws to enforce it's resolutions. There have been attempts at putting countries with piss poor human rights on the council of human rights. That's letting the inmates run the asylum.
Not to mention that the U.N. is responsible for child sex slavery, oil for food, the fraud that is the "carbon offset market" basically a way for the U.N. to force the companies and citizens of the world to pay "tax" to a handful of already super wealthy people.
The truth is the majority of the world's people wont care. Just like they don't really care about politics now. They just want to live their lives, get married, have kids, and be happy. Whether the government is national or global, they still want it to stay out of their lives and only provide help in large matters like health, protection, and infrastructure.
Simply because the majority is oblivious means that a global big brother is fine? Oh god kill me before that happens. I'd rather take the eternal dirt nap than spend the rest of my life in a prison planet. It's idealistic and naive to believe that any government does not desire more control over your daily life. For the love of God the U.N. has had resolution proposed that would prevent atheists from defaming religion.. While that doesn't seem like much, it singles out a certain group for special protections. Atheists would not be protected from defamation from the version I read.
I honestly can't see the appeal of a one world government. The Federal Government in America is already bloated, inefficient, bureaucratic, secretive and generally self serving. Yet, we want one of those for the entire world?

Sp I had this crazy thought when I was a little kid and I thought, "Wouldn't it be great if the whole world joined together to form a big community."
Turns out years later that my thoughts came true... One world Government!
Now I was wondering what effects the world would have if they really did have a one world government?
Would all lands carry the same currency?
Would every system of the world be demolished and get used to a new one?
Now I know at first it sounds like this stuff belongs to random and I.Babbling...
but think about... what would it mean for all citizens of this land and theirs?
Be really nice to talk about it....
if this doesn't belong in the SD then the guys from Fakku should just move it since I don't know whats serious and whats nonsense anymore.

No offense, but that is a horrible idea. The more a government rules over the harder it gets to implement actions, and enforce laws, and regulations.
Look at the governmnets all over the world. Some fail, others persist.
Now think about it in terms of one universal governmnet for the world.
Imagine if just that one government failed in any way.
The domino effect would be catastrophic.
aso, how in the FUCK would we get anything done? Have representatives from every county, in every territory, in every part of the world come together and debate things until they did a humongous, "Who all is for, and who all is against?" vote? Do you have any idea how incredibly difficult it would be just to be able to find a meeting place everyone has access to?
Too many problems, and that's just off the top of my head.

BigLundi thats exactly what Im talking about....
many governments have religious influence in them and many dont....
and I dont understand how can they pull something off like this if many countries refuse to cooperate with this?
Japan with one child policy....
Germany with people jobless but still gets paid from the city
America with healthcare problems....
and so many countries have systems that cant be demolished because of this absurd idea...
and this domino effect you mentioned... thats exactly whats gonna happen.
oh and about that thought about the world joining together?
I was 7 when I thought about that but never realized what it would ACTUALLY cause.

It would a horrible idea.
A single world government would mean a single set of rules to follow.
Now, some people will simply not follow the rules another region follows. Let's take an innocuous example -- headlights. Some countries, you have to have your car's headlights on at all times. 9am in the morning? Headlights. If your headlights aren't on, you're going to get pulled over. This is usually in countries where snowfall and fog is pretty thick, in order to help avoid vehicular accidents. But what if you lived in the tropics? Keeping headlights on will just drain your battery.
Or how about building codes? Building codes in canada are vastly different, from, say, the Sahara. What, you have to build your desert abode like you'd build one to prepare for snow?
There's also the thing about transporting goods. If you live in the japan, fish are kinda cheap, compared to beef. Drinkable water in Saudi Arabia costs more than oil. That would mean prices in every region has to be different, simply because transporting stuff from one place to another costs money. This would also mean taxes for every area is different.
If you're saying "Well, just change the rules for each region", then what's the point of having a single government if rules are going to be different for every area? Might as well keep the current system and let each country decide what is best for its citizens, rather than try make rules that apply to everyone on earth.
This is not even taking consideration of cultural differences. What if this world government decides that every women should cover their faces when going out in public? Or this world government institutes a one child policy and every child conceived after the first should be killed? Fuck that.

and when the world ever does achieve one world government then it would almost be impossible making money... shipments will be cheap like baby candy.... oil will be exchanged like christmas present.... and then that means that many countries will go poor due to the government pulling all the strings....
policies would have to be drastically changed and many people will not obey the new law....
wow I never thought that this would happen... talk about money..
money is the biggest issue here

If the world was under one government then the species wouldn't be able to advance as quickly as it does with multiple governments. I think mankind needs the opposition in order to make any significant progress. Otherwise, civilization would become stagnant and eventually break down. If it were one government per continent, i think that might succeed where one for the entire world wouldn't.

This is like asking everyone to unify under one religion.
I don't know what would happen 'if' this happens because it can't under normal circumstances.
The only way I could see this happening is if:
1)Aliens invade Earth and take over the world to create one government.
2)God reveals himself to all humans and force us to do crazy shit like this.

But if Aliens took over the Earth would be under the control of Occupiers/liberators depending on your views, not a unifed government of all the countries.
When I saw this thread a shiver went down my back thinking of what kind of tyranny would be used to control the people under this kind of rule. May the New world order never come to pass.
Also Penguin of doom, your post is getting +1 rep from me man that was amazing and I totally agree with that.

I think waaaay back in 1917 this kind of thought led to the making of the League of Nations, forerunner to the UN. Most likely everyone thought the idea was crazy because, like people prior to me have said, everywhere is different and everyone is regionally different so it wouldnt pan out.
I feel like there is some underlying fact here that the U.N was meant to uphold. That being that we are still one Earth and that someone (hint hint religion) should try and unite all of us to keep us from killing each other and strive toward a goal for humanity. I would love this idea if life was utopia.
The way it actually is, is more like the biggest heads (US, EU, China, Russia, etc) on the economic and military scale can do pretty much whatever just because they are the biggest heads. The U.N cant really do anything without aid of the biggest heads soo when the biggest heads and the ideals of the U.N clash its not hard to see which one loses.
FPoD put it best
A world government wouldnt be too weird. I would imagine it would function similarly to the US and EU. Both are huge in terms of diversity in culture and geography yet can function on a united level. I speak more towards the EU than the US here for historical reasons. Of course you know with one planetary government there is no "other place". Like saying "if Sarah Palin wins this electon I'm moving to Canada" just doesnt work.
I'm not too sure it would turn Orwellian Nightmare but there's a very good chance of it, given our only body on a global scale (U.N) is...pretty nightmarish to begin with.
Heres something to keep you up at night. Sarah Palin, Michelle Bauchmann, or (pick your poison) winning head-of-state for a world government. Bidding on flights to the moon start at $20 million.

Seriously, who keeps Necroposting? This thread ended back in June.
Well I don't believe that we'll ever achieve a unified idea of things, people's opinions are too different.
You've also got to take into account the obvious; the fact that the sea seperates the continents and it would be too much for one government to handle.

There was a new thread. One of the mods connected it into this thread, resulting in an apparent necro. The apparent necro is better than two seperate threads of the same topic.
Same case with the palestinian-israeli thread. Someone made new thread, new thread connected to old thread.

That makes sense, thanks for clearing that up.
