Police Bashing

I notice that whenever a cop does anything remotely questionable, they are bashed just as much as Britney Spears when she showed her fugly vag for everyone to see. By reading these comments, I do believe that around half of America consists of backwards, ignorant fools.
When I was in school, I've encountered many police officers. One of them was a bitch who likes to pull people over for no valid reason and try to find ways to press a ticket on ya. On the other hand, a bunch of the police officers I meet are jolly people who... well aren't asses or crazy. Only crazy officer I've know was one who shot a truck driver in the back for an unknown reason. He was really messed up when he arrived at the emergency room, can't drive a truck anymore. But either way, just one.
Now for the discussion part~
While it is true that there is occasionally a police officer that does irrational things, why do people hate and detest the very people who protect their lives and freedom?
BTW anyone here a police officer or know one closely?

My cousin is a police officer, my uncle is a police officer, and 3 of my coaches are police officers so I am close with the police department where I live. Cops are usually blamed because of the recent incidents involving brutality cops for example Rodney King http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodney_King and Occupy Wall Street. I hate when people try to make criminals the victims when they were endangering the lives of others http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/news/2012/01/05/texas-police-kill-latino-student-over-pellet-gun/

It is unfortunate, but people always seem to think the worst of those with authority. Mostly, I think it is due to fear, or insecurity, or also from a misplaced sense of persecution. Most of us don't like to admit we made a mistake so we find a way to blame the one who caught us. Nobody ever seems to remember that for every bad action by a policeman, there are thousands of unsung heroes. The media always focuses on the negative, so we never hear about the cop who holds an accident victim's hand until the ambulance arrives, or risks his life to make our homes safer. It is a hard and mostly thankless job, and they deserve our appreciation as much as the members of our military.

I don't despise police officer personally. I never done bad thing up to the point where police caught me and do irrational things at me.
But back in my country, police use their power to get money for themselves. They gave me ticket for going on yellow lights. I was like "WTF! I was on 60k an hour and you expect me to stop? Do you want an accident here?" and as usual they don't listen. But police there don't get much money, so I understand why they do that.

Sorry, I wrote the post with America in mind. I don't like the Chinese police as much as the American police because, well most police officers don't care. Its a Chinese mind set thingy.

Fair enough.
The police here in Australia is helpful so far in my experience, so yeah.
But Indonesian police is just horrible.

I dunno how the police is overseas, but here police is just corrupt.
Sample case. You don't wear a helmet when you drive your motorcycle, and the police stops you. Instead of fining you and force to the court, he'll ask, "Do you want to finish it here or do we take it to the court?". Meaning, pay him on the spot or face the trial.
Just that corrupt.

I have a problem with any authoritative group who is so corrupt that there was an official FBI investigation into their department, as was the case in my city. The police force are useless, and you bet I'll personify that onto the entire agency. I don't doubt that the media's portrayal of police departments around the country are skewed, but it isn't all lies either. Yes, it's easy to point out all the faults an individual or group has, but far less common to praise their triumphs, but that doesn't excuse their actions.
I've only personally had to deal with an officer once who busted me and some friends teepeeing/vandalizing the home of one of our friends. He knew we weren't minors anymore, and could have made our lives hell, but told us to clean up as best we could and go home.
Guess I should be lucky I got the one not-so-crooked cop in my city. Funny how I believe he left the department that next year, and only a few months after that is when my city's department was under federal investigation.

I agree the police in Chicago are Lazy and Corrupt. Anyone who has had a "Chicago Tuneup" knows that the police aren't to be trusted.

I believe that most go into law enforcment with the best of intentions, but many seem to become corrupted by the power they are given. i call it cartman syndrome; "respect my authoritay".
In the majority of my dealings with the police(there have been quite a few), they have not conducted themselves very professionaly. I can only recall one or two admiting they were wrong or mistaken, even though many were.
there seems to have been a decline in oversight and accountability over the last few decades. i'd like to see citizen review boards and annual psycological screenings for all agencies.

The Only time I ever here police being bashed is when back in High School Most of the students would complain and do all the typical gang like taunts like f*** the police and all that crap. They would also complain when they would get pulled over or a cop would accuse them of smoking weed. The reason it made mad is that The cops are just doing there job and these little punks would bitch about it. The thing being that most of these kids did get high and drink. They weren't discreet about it at all they would talk about it in class almost all the time. Even if I did know the cop wasn't all that great at his job I would defend him sooner that any of the punks at my old High School.

I always thought that if you don't like the police its because you did something to get your ass in trouble. Pretty much all the time that seems to be the case. I guess because I never did anything illegal (knowingly or was never caught) I never had a run in with the wrong side of the police force. They're just people like everyone else trying to actively help others and save lives. At least that's how I see most of the officers I met in my life. Officers have to deal with all the trash society has to offer and has to do it on a daily basis.
Sure there is no doubt corrupted cops out there. How can there not be? They are just people. No one is a saint. However that does not mean one should condemn them all. Well I guess the whole "the 1 bad apple spoils the bunch" thing its without a doubt true.

A few years back(US by the way) I answered the door of someone knocking at my place,3 cops with body armor and guns wanted to come in looking for some guy.I told them if they had warrant or if they needed any assistance.Obviously I didn't let them in so they threatened to shoot me,pointed a gun at me and told me to let them come in or I would be arrested for "obstruction of peace".That doesn't really exist, its called obstruction of justice by the way.My landlord came, told me no criminals such as the one they described lived there(the cops showed me the pic of the suspect 15 minutes later) and then they left.I wasn't afraid of getting shot,I was afraid of them breaking my door and having me pay for it,then shooting me and running.I would lose in court obviously ,the opinion of 3 cops>me.
Morons.

I don't like the police in my state due to the fact I was almost blamed for something I had no connection too just because I had the same demographic as the ones that did. Taught me to not be nosy and that I really just dont like cops. Had a panic attack and such. Sure not all of them are bad, some are pretty kind hearted individuals who enjoy the simple things in life as you and I but there is just that lot that abuses their power, racist, and just overall a bad person. Cops have their goods and bads but they are necessary in the world

You have cops who are just doing their job and bring home the bacon for their. You have good cops who really go out of their way to take down criminals who are a menace to society. These cops are understanding and are not out to dick people over. Then you have bad cops who were probably bullies through grade school and want to push their authority on others. When you encounter a cop it's the luck of draw of which type you encounter. I've encountered all of them. Just the way it goes I guess.

Power corrupts. That's basically it, not just police. Police have a lot of power compared to civilians, and it takes a long time (if at all) before police become accountable for their actions. It doesn't help that the police won't rat each other out.

It's simply about authority. Most people hate the mind-numbing ways people just follow authority, even when they know it's wrong. Cops represent the most basic functions of authority and what happens when you give power to basic people. Obviously not all people who work in law authority are bad, but it just takes a few to expose how easily people can fuck over everyone else when they have a taste of power. It scares the rest of us who have no power. I guess that's why we hate them so much

Like with all people, i judge policemen adn women based on there actions. Sure there are some corrupt cops out there, but i believe most of them are honest ones who are actually trying to do there job. I would never act disrespectful towards a police officer unless if i as given a reason to not trust/respect them
I think part of the reason police have gotten a bad rep recently is because how certain officers have treated Occupy Wall Street protestors. Because these have been caught on video, they kind of cast a bad light on police in general unfortunately. On a facebook post about one of those videos i said that i felt people were generalizing cops too much based on videos like that.

its because we want the people who are in law enforcement to be heald to a higher standered than us "normal people" so when they go out of control and beat someone or kill someone we want to make sure that there reason was a good one.
But why didn't the other cops stop him from doing that action?? So if they didn't stop that one cop then that means they all agreed that was a good action. So in reality everyone there was just as gulity as that one cop.
Also the lack of disaproval on said action, impowers the wrong-doer a reinforcment of his/her actions. So in reality its the whole units problem.
I mean if you really saw someone spraying pepper spray into someones face at pointblank range, when it clearly says they are not sposed to do that on the can. are you saying you wouldn't stop them? Or is because they have a gun and you don't and they have a legal reason to use it on you?? Because if thats the case then, the police are ruling though fear.
