It would have to be a very rare circumstance, if I'm defending my family or friends no prob, but like cold blood Na I couldn't do it call me a sissy or whatever I just couldn't do it.

If I have to pull the trigger....I could not do it.
a life is something not to waste.
but if that person hurts the ones I love badly or kills them.....then thats different
I will torture them so that they wish they would die
shot legs arms, slash tear rip, then if I am feeling merciful I will then pull it on there head.
no one messes with the people I love if I have to defend them I will even at the price of my soul.

I guess its a question if you are willing to end a life
I can end a life without hesitation if needed
but the questions in my head would probably keep me occupy to end one
for example:
-Am I doing the right thing?
-Sure the situation looks grim, he killed someone probably close to me but why is he doing this?
-Maybe his situation is worst than mine that's why he has to do this
-Should i judge this man and take his life? but am i that much more important than him to take his life and end it?
-Which comes first the chicken or the egg?
just kidding about the last one well i keep asking my self that one I really get confused by that question.
Anyway back to topic, I would probably just shoot his leg or arm than end a person's life if needed because ending a person's life should not be decided by other people but should be decided by yourself.
If a person killed or hurt someone innocent then I would definitely Will Not end his/her life for him/her being dead would not heal the person's injury nor bring that person back to life. He/She should take responsibility for his/her actions.

If you injured him enough to subdue him but not kill him, then put a bullet in his head to finish him off.
You'll probably end up being jailed for murder instead of self-defence.
There's a good chance you'll miss their arm/leg you're better off going for their chest in that sort of situation, have you considered they might also have a gun?
Edit: There's a rather large artery running through both legs pierce it with a bullet and they'll bleed out real quick.
Edit 2: Shooting someone in the arms or legs still constitutes use of force so you'll still have to explain yourself to the legal system when the dust settles.
Edit 3:Myths of self-defence read, it's doesn't constitute legal advice but it sure as hell debunks some of the myths people believe when it comes to having to shoot people in a self-defence situation.

Your Edit 3 was very informative :O thank you, well i guess i will just have to kill him/her if i have too
Well i guess the one that's ready to end a life is ready for someone to end his

Being in the airforce with plans to crosstrain into JTAC (Special forces) I'd pull the trigger whenever it needed to be done. I'm not sure exactly how I'd feel after those first few rounds pierce whoever I was shooting at and they go down, but that's what the training's for.
I'll tell you what it's like after I cross train.

It depends on the situation really. If I was coerced to the point where I have to do ANYTHING to stay alive a.k.a lost my sanity for that brief moment, then yeah. Otherwise, no.

Probably if there was reason (ie: if I or my loved ones were going to die)
I would probably have to close my eyes though.

yes i would pull the trigger i cannot see some dude taking someone Else's life just for the hell of it or when they are in rage mode, if i could protect some other person even the ones i despise with all my heart from dying then so be it.

You've just asked the wrong type of person this question; a law student. Needless to say, I'm fully aware of all the laws to do with this area, and I know the implications of whatever actions I take.
I see some people here saying that you might be able to get a self-defence defence if you kill them. No court will ever except this defence. Using "reasonable force" doesn't mean shot them if they shot you. The court values life highly; if you take life with a bullet you won't be in the courts' sympathies.
Also, many others are talking about "if they needed to do it, they would do it". Unfortunately, this is a no-go defence too - necessity and duress. Although highly criticised by many academics, including myself, the courts say that "You shouldn't value your life above anyone else's". There was a time when courts allowed for human cowardice to kick in, but now they expect bravery on part of the defendant. Kinda ridiculous, but ya know.
As such, I would be vary wary in pulling the trigger. Not because I couldn't kill someone, but because I'm distinctly aware that I'm going to spend a long part of my life in jail and life being subjugated by rules from parole. I know for one thing that, if I were the one threatened, I wouldn't want my friend to suffer that cruel fate.
There's a law student's perspective.

I really don't think I'd have any trouble. If the circumstances were right (by right I mean that I had a reason and it wasn't something I'd go to jail for)... click, click, BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM! click!click!click! Honestly I don't know if I could stop pulling the trigger.

There's actually a few situations in which I could pull the trigger on someone:
1) Were I drafted/enlisted into the military I would pull the trigger on an enemy force. Naturally, in times of war men on both sides are more likely to be emotionally compromised to kill anyone on the opposing side than not. It's a do or die situation. What are ya gonna do?
2) Euthanasia. I think if someone is going through tremendous suffering, than it should be right to put the man/woman out of his/her misery. (If they want to die of course)
3)Self-defense: Naturally, you can defualt to reason 1.
I really don't look down on people who think killing is wrong and should be avoided at all costs, and personnally, I'd rather not take another man/woman's life (I'm pretty that it comes back to haunt you), but as I asked before, what are ya gonna do? It's do or die.

I could pull the trigger no matter the situation; I can easily block out my humanity (given the situation is me murdering an innocent person).
The reason is that a gun is so easy for me to detach from as it is a complex machine (think what Arnie said in Terminator about the T-1000). If I was forced to come within proximity or have to feel the vibrations of a knife bouncing off the bone, I'd most likely vomit (i see it a lot; don't understand it, but seems natural). I can clearly reason that my finger caused the gun to go off and send out the bullet, but it's such a cowardly way to kill someone I can easily live with myself killing someone with a gun.

If the situation is "One on One: You don't fire you die, you fire you live"
I will pull the trigger.
If there is an option that you can shoot either the legs or the arms, that's when I will probably shoot the parts that are far from the heart. To avoid killing the other party.

If the only way to live is to pull the trigger, I will do it. Honestly, there are times that I scare myself because my conscience doesn't bother me that much. If I strongly believe that what I did was right, my conscience wouldn't torment me. I find it very easy to detach myself from humanity. So basically, I can pull the trigger for any reason that I totally believe is right.

I think I can well depending on the situation... i think most of the people would if their life were to be in danger

Firing a weapon is not something I look forward to doing. I know very well how badly things can go wrong. But if the situation is dire enough, I will not hesitate to pull the trigger. I would, however, do my best to avoid taking a life.
