Yeah... no.
Joke or not, that is quite true in many cases. Most women I know only want the 'equal right's when its suits them, then they go back running and saying 'hey, I'm a woman, you should do that'
And no, I don't support sexism in any way, except perhaps in fiction, if it makes sense in the story.
Most people are like that though. You don't directly force an issue unless it applies to you specifically. Without the reward or benefit, you don't speak up, and you don't make waves.

Well, im not a woman but i can say i respect women. I dont go with sexism unless its just on jokes, but i am totally against it. Everything to me must be equal against men and women but you cant erase the fact that there will be people who are sexist, unless everyone gets brainwashed and what was planted on their heads was just to be equal with everyone.

Something I absolutely hate is the idea that if a woman attacks a man he cannot fight back. If a woman attacks me I feel that I have every right to defend myself. Males are genetically supposed to be born stronger than females (I think) but that doesn't mean that a woman can't be stronger than a man. Also, what if a weapon is involved on the womans part?
If I beat the crap out of a girl for trying to do the same to me does that mean I'm abusive or a woman beater? I don't think so. I think that means I'm defending myself from an attacker. :/

My view on the whole subject is a fairly simple one. Sexism exists but it is not nearly as big a problem as most people make it out to be. One gender gets treated better than the other in certain situations. That's just how it happens. As far as changing it, to me it seems that simply raising your kids and teaching them the importance of equality between sexes would be the best way.
Anyway it's not really a concern of mine since I had the good fortune to be born a white male and thus have no problems with sexism or racism.

This issue is a very wide and diverse issue that can't be quantified into a simple answer, but i'll try anyways. Men and Women have always had their differences, but not all of the stereotypes are just meaningless conjecture. "make me a sammich" while a very crude comment is based on a general fact that MOST (I did not in any way, shape, or form say all) women are better at cooking than men. But as with all stereotypes there are people that break the mold. These people are the ones who are different and therefore singled out by people of lower intelligence (sexists).Yet in the culinary world women still have a hard time to be as accepted as their male counterparts.

I think it has to with the fact that women are still considered "emotional" beings, when you need a more business focussed person as head chef.
Nowadays, there are ofcourse tons of great business women, but our culture still allows girls to be a lot more emotional then men.
Even though the metro sexual, in touch with his feminine side kind of guy is more accepted today, a father or a mother will most likely tell his/her son to be strong and not cry when he trips and falls, whereas his/her daughter might get a warm hug in the same situation..

Men and women have different brains so of course our way of thinking and our bodies can’t be equal but it would be nice to be equal under the law. The biggest issue since the beginning of time is that women are at a huge disadvantage because they have the burden of bearing children. When humans were nomads, women has less kids (because they had to keep traveling) so they had time to do other things and were treated more equally. But since we settled down and started growing our own food we needed more kids and had more time to get the wife pregnant. Also because of monthly periods, women were considered too weak to work when they weren’t pregnant. Now days the poorest people in America are single mothers because they don’t know how to handle finances and have to raise kids instead of going to school or working long hours. Most companies treat men and women the same in the beginning but once the women gets pregnant they worry that she will quit or work less so she automatically stops getting raises and sometimes gets paid less. Companies think that it’s ok to pay women less because her husband will get paid well. The problem is lots of people are not getting married and if they do, they eventually get divorced. On the bright side, things have gotten better and will get better. Since we have such a large population, I think fewer women will want to have kids (now many are choosing to have kids later) in the future and companies will see this and continue to give them raises.

Sexism eh? Well okay, here goes...
I find that in regards to sexism there are two major problems in our society, both social ones.
The first one is the "larger" problem, or rather a problem on a larger societal scale and also a problem that is probably easier to rectify. This is the problem of men having more opportunities, more rights and higher wages. Meaning that men have a higher social standing in society. This is the problem of society and the way it works.
The second problem is the everyday problem. This is a sexism issue not pointed at women only. In some ways that have already been mentioned, women seem to be viewed worse in certain situations in which men are viewed positively. Vice versa, sometimes men seems to have less of a say, or come out lower on the totem pole than women. This seems more to be a problem of thought and opinion. Kept constantly alive by itself.
Some seem to think that by making the sexes truly equal regarding the first issue and making men and women have completely equal opportunities where possible (exceptions exist, I believe), the second issue will right itself with time.
Others seem to believe that thought and opinion needs to be changed before society can be changed. Meaning they want to resolve the second problem first. I personally don't really see how this is possible. Making people stop thinking pink is female and blue is male, forcing them to change their opinions which they might in the end still keep without voicing, is extremely difficult.
There is an issue of sexism in the societies of today, but I think on some scale they will never be solved. I believe that we can however make is so that both genders have the same opportunities to be happy and live the lives they wish.
And as always, there are exceptions to every rule and problem. Including the ones I've just listed. Even on the larger scale (problem nr. 1) women sometimes have more rights than men. Okay, I'm done.

Don't forget about how uneven the birth process is. By that I mean no matter what men want, women get the final say. "I'm not ready for a child." -Man
"Well YOU should have thought of that. We are having this baby." -Woman
And conversely:
"You can't just take away my baby like this. You can't kill our child."-Man
"This is my body and I'll do what I want. You don't understand what it's like to carry a baby for nine months."-Woman.
But yeah, I don't like sexism. Let no man hit no woman and let no woman hit no man.
This is not uneven in the least. Men SHOULD take control of their contraceptive choices and make sure they and their partner are protected. Condomts+spermicide aren't hard to come by and asking your partner to have contraceptives isn't going to be the end of the world. There are other options to PIV if your partner doesn't want to be responsible. It is a woman's body and her choice. She shouldn't have to be burdened with a baby because of an accident and if a guy doesn't want to pay child support he shouldn't have had sex. Sex is like a contract-the small print says "Baby/STD may occur with this action, please be prepared to deal with consequences of your own actions."
Oopsing someone is a different story, but sex is inherently risky :/

sexist things*:
men should pay for dates.
men should have short hair.
women should have long hair.
boys don't cry.
ladies first.
no fat chicks.
male nurse.
seperation of gender in sports(usualy unfavorably to women)
[more to come as i think of them]
in california, if there is a domestic violence complaint made to the police, they arrest both the man and the woman. regardless of who the aggresor was, or if one person has visable marks.

An important thing to note is that men and women are different and so they need to be treated in different ways. I'm not saying one should be treated better than the other, but there are a lot of differences between men and women and that needs to be taken into account.and that, everyone, hits the nail on the head. face it: biology itself is sexist..... if it wasn't we'd all be a bunch of egg-laying hermaphrodites happily mixing our genes through non-contact vectors like pollen.
you think that doesn't matter/is accounted for in the "developed" countries at least, ask the woman who either [1] got passed over for promotion because of childbirth, [2] is was forced to neglect her kid for the sake of salvaging said (sinking) career or [3] the worst of both possibilities; which is what happen most times
since we're on a manga site, there's a thing i'd like to clarify with the people here familiar with japan: do the women usually have to do ALL the cooking and cleaning at the house even when it's plainly slave/child labour? (think yuzu in bleach after mom died).... and how about that harumi chihiro series here, in which the girlfriend did all the cooking, even though they were both office-goers?

Sexism does not exist in a vacuum, for every misogynistic man out there, there is a women who adamantly believes in misandry. I believe both genders should have equal opportunities and equal wages and less stigmas towards certain jobs such as a man knitting or as Nekohime mentioned ballet dancing or a woman being a mechanic and various other jobs. Feminism is good in my honest opinion but at the moment it's been taken over by women who no doubt in my mind hate men very very much. Granted they are a minority of the general Feminist population, but they are the most vocal. Feminism is about equal rights of genders and equal opportunities, but at the moment the radical "femnazis" to loosely put it have given feminism a horrible new meaning. Hatred toward men. An example is TheAmazingAtheist's comments on a radical feminist that thinks all men are rapists. Heres a link to the video
I consider myself a feminist even if I am a guy. But I can't believe that there are feminist women who actually believe all men are rapists. My two cents

People ought to be treated equally regardless of gender and have equal opportunity to jobs, wages, etc... However I do believe that there are certain jobs most men are not cut out for and there are certain jobs most women are not cut out for.

I don't know if this would count as a sexist situation but I used to play tennis and high school. There was this one team in our region that was co-ed(Their girls didn't play in the fall like everyone else so instead they played with the boys in the spring) and we'd always go in thinking that it was always an easy win and it usually was. I ended up playing this one girl who was pretty good hitting the ball pretty hard and attacking the net. There was this one instance where she had hit it back, but when she rushed the net she wasn't ready, the normal HS player would've hit the ball right at them and punish them for not being ready (I've been hit with a ball like that and I don't wish that on anybody T_T) So to wrap this up I didn't do it and the coach got on me for it. At that time I didn't really think of it, "Oh I shouldn't do that to her" but more as remembering that getting hit hurts and I wouldn't want to do that to anyone else.

Men and women should not be treated equally. Men are men, women are women. You wouldn't leave your girl alone with a guy you trust, just like a women wouldn't leave her man alone with another women. Both sexes seek equality which will never happen. We only want to believe in the equality itself, we don't really want it. If we did, it would've happened already. Pay a guy to work? Fine. Pay a women to work? Then you're stuck with worrying about pregnancies, labor, more prone to injuries, etc. Equality while never a reality should be the pursuit of any society. An ideal that will never manifest like peace. Currently in North America, women have it better. They get less severe punishment for crimes.
Over all, do I want men and women to be truly equal? Nope, not at all, never. However, this doesn't mean we should just go back to how things were with women being viewed as big subservient children.

I treat women equally. . . in a way
when we're playing soccer, some girls like to join us(and I'm a mean striker).
I tell them when they complain about me slide-tackling them,
"if you can't handle a mere slide tackle, don't complain about sexist remarks"
To explain the statement, if they can't handle my slide tackles like the other guys, then they shouldn't complain about sexism.
