The Anime Death Penalty

As some of you may have heard, (from me) the worst thing that can possibly happen to any anime is for it to appear on American television. Think about it.
[list]Examples
[*]Naruto would be a kick-ass show if it weren't on Cartoon Network. But because it is, people like me have to deal with the thousands of retards that flood MMOs and forums with Naruto-related names.
[*]Bleach... well, if Bleach were a good show to begin with, I would say that Adult Swim ruined it. But it isn't, so it wasn't.
[*]Naruto and Bleach hentai are now overrated. Take a look at our manga section. What is the highest downloaded manga? Fake. A Naruto Doujinshi. Look into our Anime Gallery in the image section. What are the largest galleries? Naruto, followed by Bleach.
[*]Merchandising. Clash of Ninja 2 was a decent game, but every Naruto game since that has been a steaming pile of Japanese crap. Bleach games, not any in particular, have all been horrible as well. People only buy them because they see the word "Bleach" and instantly think: "Lolol, if I buy this, I am teh anime g0dzorz."
[*]COSPLAY!? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! The most-worn outfits at cosplay conventions in America are Naruto, and soon to come, Bleach.[/list:u]

It's like people watching the series are mentally unable to actually imagine their own names. Cartoon Network is a fairly good channel to INTRODUCE people to teh animez, but most of it's series can kill.

But since most of the new users are Bleach and Naruto obsessed people they want Bleach and Naruto. Therefore it makes sense to serve the masses what they want, even if there are others who have other animes that rank higher in their heads.

But it's like almost any anime game (or vise versa), people buy them because they are fans of the original title. It just happens to be that there is a bigger fagba- sorry, fan-base for Bleach and Naruto. And it also happens that quite a few of them are new to anime as a whole, so they treat Bleach and Naruto to be the holy grail of anime. Little do they know that they are actually watching a series that may not be as good as others.

COSPLAY!? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! The most-worn outfits at cosplay conventions in America are Naruto, and soon to come, Bleach.I actually see more Bleach outfits at my anime/cosplaying con's here in New Zealand (we don't have many, mind you). But they do not make up the majority of cosplayers thankfully. I don't really mind, as some of them have a decent amount of dedication, so I just sympathize. They probably don't know better, all I can do is let them watch their programs, while I feel superior.
So yes, I actually thought the same thing myself a while ago, that American television networks murder anime, as they are feeding it to stupid people who haven't heard of it before.
There is nothing we can do until the animes end, but at least it is introducing people to anime, even if sometimes some people just get stuck on one particularly bad anime.

Bleach and especially Naruto are the most over-rated anime so far(somehow it reminds me of the pokemon storm years ago)...lots of my friend who detest anime and hate otaku watch(and a big fan of) those two series...i don't know what the fuck is wrong with them...
oh and yeah about the forum thing...no matter what kind of forum it was(even when the forum is not anime-related) you can always find more then one of those narutards, naruto freak, naruto wannabees, or whatever the fuck you want to call it...
big thanks to noutakun for creating this topic 8)

hahaha i can easily answer this for you,
-a majority of those pictures were posted by me, yes i choose what i want
-i like bleach and naruto hentai, i change it up sometimes, based on my mood and personal prefrence or on requests
-i will kind of a agree with you cnn ruining naruto
-but bleach is great, and adult swim doesnt ruin it, the're are still all the scenes from jap eps, nothing is edited out, it still has all the gore and blood, cursing, ect.
-i dont care for cosplay and dont even bother using my time even ranting about it
-i pretty much spurred the naruto/bleach posting, in my opinion, but still the hentai artists take the most popular animes and fan fetishes, thats how they make their money, thats how they live

I like Naruto >.> anime isn't big in England so if you mention the word Naruto in a book store all your gonna get is weird looks, as for Bleach, i have tried to watch the series but i honestly cannot watch it, the games are complete crap, and over in England the anime theme to dress as at the moment is Full Metal Alchemist.....i was wandering does anyone have any good animes they can point me toward..?
Also as we are on the subject and i know someone will eventually come to this series....Final Fantasy..i love it, i honestly cant help it, i must of spent 10's of thousands of pounds on merchandise, it may even make me to buy the PS3, so please for the love of everything FF don't moan about it...
I love FF to much i know its a addiction but its like a god send!!!!!

bleach is cool, man. i don't know what you're talking about. how can you hate bleach? you should like it for it's contributions to hentai, alone. we're not talking about little kiddie ninjas; we're talking full-fledged boobs, like a hill next to a hill. that, my friend, is awesomeness at it's best..

naruto, on the other hand, is lamer than and lower than the shit i accidentally step on without realizing. that's how inconsequential naruto is.

my opinion on this is any chick who cosplays and does not looking smoking, and i mean fire out your ass smoking, hot should be lined up and forced to stare at their selves 'till their eyes bleed and they mentally crack under the pressure.
as for dudes who cosplay, unless you're a gundam or a transformer, go to hell. better yet, line 'em all up in a row and force 'em to play chicken one on one with a bus.

Anime in general is overhyped in the U.S. In my opinion, 0eople will put up with senseless drivel simply because it came from Japan. However, this doesn't mean I can't enjoy good anime.
That being said, I think Bleach has some merit. The soul society story arc was excellent. The rest of the series was more average(and I stopped watched when they left to chase vampires) but I really have to give credit where it is due. The soul society story arc of Bleach was really good.
Someone recommended Naruto to me a few years before CN picked it up, but I never really got into it that much, so I guess I don't really like it, but I don't know enough to trash it.
While an individual anime appearing on U.S. TV can be bad in some ways(bad dubs, too hyped, etc.), it is kind of silly to get mad at a show for being too popular. Sure, it's probably overrated, but hey, people can like what they want. I've always thought Cowboy Bebop was overrated because I don't love it to death and a lot of other people do. However, I don't hate Bebop and the enjoyment I get out of it is in now way diminished by the fact that other people like it(This is also a concept in alt. music that I don't understand: the unpopularity of being popular.)
Additionally, bringing anime to U.S. channels introduces it to more people which then increases the demand for anime in general and leads to a larger anime industry, which if you like anime, is probably a good thing. Sure, a good chunk of it will be drivel, but someone with a good anime/manga idea is more likely to get funding because the producers perceive a growing market.
As for marketing, the problems you mention are shared by just about anything that gets popular enough to warrant liscened products. Videogames based on TV shows, movies, etc, almost invariable suck, and anyone with half a brain has probably realized by now that the only reason to buy such a product is demand for more exposure to whatever was liscenced, not an actual quality video game, though that always is a plus.
Overall, if you think Naruto is a good show, I don't see how airing it on CN can kill it. If you don't like the dubs, plenty of subs are available. If the masses of fans are less sophisticated in their Naruto savvy than you, then don't bother arguing with them. Unless popular demand(in the U.S.) actually influences the content of a show(which rarely happens in the case of anime since it is usually pretty much complete or else ridiculously long by time it reaches the U.S.), I really don't see how U.S. mainstreaming and popularity of the show should really take anything away from the enjoyment that you get out of watching it. In fact, it would seem to be better for a show that you like to become popular, because it would encourage more shows that try to emulate charastics of it. Whereas if CN "butchers" a bad anime and people like it, it will lead to more similarly bad animes being made and shipped in.

I agree with a great deal with what you said, personally trying to watch either Bleach or Naruto hurt my eyes.
But because it is, people like me have to deal with the thousands of retards that flood MMOs and forums with Naruto-related names.
This immediately flooded me with memories of every other name/tag on the internet back in the day, you could not log onto one of those early day MMOs(or D2 for that matter) with out seeing some variation of "Sephiroth" run by. Kiddies will be kiddies, if it was not Naruto it would have been something else similar.

IDK about Americanization of animes ruining them and their content... I understand that some people don't like certain animes for various reasons, but I don't think that can possibly ruin it for everyone. Personally I watched DBZ and Gundam Wing when they came out on CN when I was 14, loved them, and still do... I guess the only thing I have left to say is
IT'S OVER 9,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(sorry, but it had to be said  )

Seconded. Before Fakku, every hentai site I went on were always saying how they've added "more Naruto" There is far too much of it

As with a lot of people, and even in real life, mainstream items dominate the frontlines, everything works that way, Kanye can't rap any better than Kevin Federline, and he gets the awards, cause he is popular, Britney can't dance at the beginning, so is Timberlake, they all get high scores.
Just as Naruto is as far as I am concerned the most overated Shonen there could ever be, heck it is fuck long, hundreds of episodes and more to come, none of the character is GAR (manly) and not to mention the very BOYS > GIRLS logic applied, so yeah, good luck with all the people who support mainstream, there is a reason why radioshows died, cause mainstream took over, soon anime too.

Bleach and Naruto are like the modern day equivalent of DBZ, they are long, cliched, and highly overrated shows liked by many casuals and even some serious anime fans (though I have no idea why). Their manga counterparts are better, if only because they have no fillers, and you can read through them as fast as you want instead of having an overly-drawn out speech/fight scene/death scene/etc. You know you're watching a horrible anime when characters talk about how much power/potential/etc. the main character has every freakin' episode! Bleach is especially horrible with this. Also, just about every game based off an anime is horrible.
Whether the anime appears on American TV or not is irrelevant, it's the company that dubs the show that determines whether the English version sucks or not. Case in point, 4Kids. Unfortunately, in order for an anime to become immensely popular, it is practically required to be on TV. There are probably more people that like Bobobo or One Piece than there are people who like really good stuff. (For me anyway it would be Evangelion, Code Geass, Melancholy of Haruhi, Lucky Star, Nadesico, Hayate, and others.) I suppose it's one of those unfair things in life. Though being introduced to anime isn't necessarily a bad thing. So long as one can grow out of those Shounen cliched anime. My interest in anime really got started with DBZ, but I managed to "grow out of it" so to speak. Let's hope all those Naruto/Bleach fans can do the same.

Lord knows why I have a bleach shirt, but I do and I were on Otaku club day. I'm at peace with bleach and naruto... mainly because I'm a pokemon fan. DBZ was the equivalent of Long. Same goes with naruto and bleach there too damn long for there own good.
-Pokemon on the other hand is long but good because it changes the characters around*this includes the pokemon*. Speaking of characters With DBZ they'll get a new character and kill he/she of just because Goku doesn't agree with their opion.*note Goku as good as he says he is. He still doesn't listen to any other opion* Pokemon falls under the radar sometimes, but I've stood true to the pokemon cause like a true Otaku!

I liked Naruto best when i was one of the few people in the state to know what the hell it even was XD I feel sick when i walk into the top Anime convention in Alaska(of two) and 99% of the people there are dressed up as some Naruto character... it's the others i usally hang out with anyways :P
As for Bleach, i don't mind it. I watch it every night because it's one of the only shows on Adult Swim that i can stand watching(that and my mom likes to watch it, i just have to support that XD). Not to mention that remotely good cartoons on TV are hard to come by nowadays(I mean in general, anime or not).
