Why Do People Believe in The Apocalypse?
0
Seriously, why? This isn't rather or not they are wrong or right, or rather or not you yourself believe in The End of the World. Just give your personal take on why so many people claim the world is going to end, and why so many people throughout the ages have claimed the world was/is going to end. Use whatever you want to support your claims: pyschology, sociology, evolution, whatever.

Because it is stated in the bible?
Also because it is said so by our ancestors who are supposedly smarter then us.Rumored that they had contact with alien's.

One day the life as we know it will end, it could be by the sun finally dying or by a nuclear warfare.

I believe in an apocalypse. I just don't accept it.How can you believe but not accept? Maybe you meant "don't fall in depression".

Are you an idiot? Understanding != Acceptance. I understand the way the universe moves, the very fragility of everything I hold dear. And so I try to make it less frail. I get really peeved when people question the way I choose my words, because I always take a few minutes to make my post.

Sounds complicated...
So when you say you don't accept it you mean you don't understand it?
And how do you make it less frail?

Understanding something does not automatically mean accepting it as well. I will listen to your thoughts and opinions and respect them, and depending on what they are, I will either say you're stupid or you're brilliant. Likewise, I don't expect you to approve of everything I say, or even maybe understand. And if you so wish it, I will probably take the time to help you understand, and maybe accept.
"And how do you make it less frail?"
Being an "adult" means finding your own answer to this.

You have a thing for complications, don't you?

It might happen at some point or the other..now or the late future...but im always skeptical about what the masses say, and the hype of these 'Apocalypse' claims

People as a whole are arrogant and fearful. We don't want the world to go on after we leave it, so we created an excuse to make us feel better. Thus apocalyptic tales arose.

Many of the people I knew who bought into one of the many insane " end of the world " predictions were, at the time, leading very miserable lives.

In my point of view, apocalypse is a way people will trick themselves into believe that they will go to heaven sooner and all people they condemned can go to hell faster. Which is completely arrogant no matters which way you view it.
There will be the end of the world, but it will never happen in our life times. Human will be extinct when that happen anyway.

I do believe in an apocalypse, but, for this world it will be around another 7.5 billion years before it truly ceases to function. In regards to the biblical event; probably for the same reason people believe in a supernatural being that guides us through the universe, faith that there is something beyond death.

Well, one way or another everything comes to an end... so, I would only think it natural for people to become overly curious as to how it just might happen.
As for me? I don't really GAF, simply amused by those who do.

I believe in the apocalypse.
Everything ends. It may not happen in my lifetime, maybe not even within the next thousand years, but humanity will die, eventually.
If you were alive in the 70's, the spectre of mutually assured destruction via nuclear weapons was a very real possibility.
If the OP meant apocalyse as in some dude predicts the world will end from non-human means on date xx/yy/zz, no, I don't believe that. As for why people believe in it, those that genuinely believe belong in the fringes of society, like those that believe that Elvis is alive. Even if they give us their reasons, mainstream society will like dismiss them.

All those apocalyptic events are the rage because they're pretty convenient way out. Why bother paying back the credit, going to work, working the fields if the world's gonna end in a week anyway?
And then poof! and magically you're in better world with unicorns, your ancestors, naked virgins...yeah, people like when all their problems are solved for them and they get sit on their ass.
It isn't true or real of course, but there will always be a fringe group of loud enough fanatics that'll delude themselves.
Naturally, the world will end eventually, our Sun will wither and die, and then there are random meteor showers, solar flares, super-volcanoes... but that's just an inevitable part of life.
