Why do we remember 9/11?
1
All deaths are tragic, not just the ones that happened 10 years ago. Why don't we remember all the people who died 11 years ago? Or even yesterday?
Is it because it was the work of terrorists on American soil?
I can't help but feel it strange to remember this day when so many people die from tragedies every single minute. The Japanese tsunami happened just a few months ago and it claimed more lives, but everyone here seems to have forgotten that incident.
I'm not trying to say we shouldnt honor the dead I'm only wondering why so few dead are being honored.

11 years ago... 2011-2001= 10 my son.. also why do we remember dec 7 1941, or july 4th 1776.. shit happens and people remember. And a man made attack vs a natural disaster are two different thing.. you know 12 million people died on a single thing and no one will remember the time unless your a medical nerd or it happens again.

And reread first two sentences.

Well as Japan put it during WWII "That day we have awoken a sleeping giant" That was the day that america got pissed and gave George W power....

I'm fairly new to fakku and I created an account just to post a reply to this, 3000 or so deaths that we remember, though it was tragic and as Mixtape said it was a very small amount of people the reason that such a big deal is made of it is to remind people why the americans are in Afghanistan, I may be speaking blasphemy here but America is only in afghanistan for the money that they earn there, the majority of the population think its to punish alqaeda but its very profitable for the government, anyway these are my thoughts based on my observations because when you think about it the americans have lost more people in the war over there than in 9/11 incident.

Ok I think we can all agree and say that we should take a moment of silence at any given moment today and remember the victoms of that day... the piece of shit scum who caused it, whom ever that may have been, will eventually atone for their sins.

I must disagree there. For the government, this is a clearly a tremendous cost. The people lobbying for the war however are receiving much profits from the weapons industry and various other utility and supply industries, whom are also profiting.
But yeah, I say we remember 9/11 because the media brings it back up. Why do they bring it up? Because it's profitable for the industries to continue this war. Honestly, and I know this is cruel of me to say especially since I didn't lose anyone I know in the incident, I don't think 9/11 would be in my mind at all ever again unless someone was to mention it to me.

1.Caused Bush to start a war on terror that americans criticized the HELL out of.
2. Made people instantly become prejudice to anyone of middle eastern decent.
3. Stricter flight regulations.
4.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA_PATRIOT_Act and the controversy behind it.
Also, i think that whenever the anniversary of any tragic event (not just 9/11) comes around, we shouldn't just think about the people who died that day. We should also think and pay respects to all the people that died leading up to that day and hope that no one will be taken away from this world in a disastrous way in the future.

The reason I say profitable for the government is due to this, the weapons the government buys are made by US weapons companies which in turn are taxed for the weapons, the suppliers of the materials to the weapons companies also have a GST imposed apon them. Though the GST doesn't even come close to paying for the weapons themselves it does save the Govt alot of money. The war against terror in afghan is profitable because the government over there supplies the US to aid them in oil and other resources in the short run it is unprofitable but in the long run the way I see it, it is more profitable for the US as a whole I guess.
These are my opinions and I did give a moments silence for the 9/11 incident but lest any of you forget about all the things that happened after it.

The amount of money that the Government gets out of taxes isn't that much. The ones who profit are the companies themselves. The ones who should profit shouldn't be just the Government but the country itself. If you did not notice Amercia is in great debt so to say it is for money is a bit off and saying that America is getting any benefit finanically is a bit of a strecth.
I remember back in High School the only thing people ever talk about is how the only reason why we were in the war is because of oil or that 9/11 was set up. But how can you say that to the people who had lost their families to the tragedy? "The loss of your loved one was used to start a war over money in which we lost many many lives and are still losing lives." The reason why we started the war was because of the outcry of the Amercian Citizens. The people of America wanted to go to war to get justice for the attack on innocent civilians like what happened in WWII.
The only difference is that this isn't a war against another country. Which is why its so hard to win. How can you win a war agaisnt something that isn't concrete. If the enemy was a country they would atleast stop it before it goes overboard, before the loss of unimaginable amount of lives and resources. However this is a war over beliefs. The enemy sees it as a crusade? The loss of their people will onlybecome fuel to continue their fight.
The reason why it is still being brought up today is because its still recent. Like how WWII is still remembered. The attack will most likely go down in history books in another couple of years. Depending on how the final result of the war comes out.
If you don't want to deal with it then just don't watch the news or any form of media that wll bring it up.

However if we continue to live in fear then the terrorist are winning.

The more people harp on it, the more the terrorist get what they wanted imo.QFT ^^
The fact people are so freaked out over terrorists ever since 9/11 they've basically won a psychological victory over the American people.
A strong nation and it's people should remember but be able to move on, not be stuck reliving the past.

terrorists are like a child having a tantrum and should be treated as such. the best way to deal with them is to ignore them. paying attention only encourages their behaviour. it may get worse at first, but once they see that it's no longer having the desired effect, they will eventualy give up.

I remember 9/11 because I am not a terrorist, and yet I get treated like I'm potentially one every time I step on a plane.
As far as I'm concerned, the terrorists won. The fact that life now revolves around preventing terror (often at the expense of liberties) means that terror was indeed sown. Afghanistan bombed back to the stone age? Bin Laden dead? Doesn't matter. His goals were met.

This article shows how much we dont care about life, and that remembering 9/11 is just a tragicomedy that everyone is playing a part, so that they would fit in. But I dont think they really care, they just act like they do to SHOW OFF.

By showing that they are part of the moment, that they care, they try to show off that they care. But we all know they dont, since we've pretty much made Afghanistan and Iraq a wealthy pool for terrorist recruitment. The next 9 11 will happen because we're not stopping terrorism. The war on terror is making more terrorists rather than taking them out... But do we stop it? Nope. We amp it up, by using more terror ourselves, and down we slide to this spiral of terror.
Nobody really cares to prevent all this shit. We only show we care. We do care when it is someone close to us, but other than that the people dont really give a shit. Did Bush take the chance to avoid the war? Nope, ( http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/bush-rejects-taliban-offer-to-surrender-bin-laden-631436.html ) he ignored the taliban's offer to surrender Bin Laden. And the Afghanistan and Iraqi people suffered by our desire for revenge.
What's next you say?? Well there's Iran... the minute we go down that road, we'll see something much worse than 9 11.... much much worse. But we dont care.
