Dragon Age 2
0
Story:
Dragon Age 2 thrusts players into the role of Hawke, a penniless refugee who rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age. Known to be a survivor of the Blight and the Champion of Kirkwall, the legend around Hawke's rise to power is shrouded in myth and rumor.
Featuring an all-new story spanning 10 years, players will help tell that tale by making tough moral choices, gathering the deadliest of allies, amassing fame and fortune, and sealing their place in history. The way you play will write the story of how the world is changed forever.
So far, not much else is known other than that the game will feature a brand new battle system.
To be honest, this is quite disappointing. I really loved the combat system of the first game. Perhaps they're trying to change it to suit the consoles more. The first Dragon Age was designed mostly for the PC.
If Morrigan doesn't come back. I'll be straight up pissed off. That, or they better give me another character who's just as sarcastic and condescending, with an equally great wit. And it better be a chick again.
Release ETA: March 2011

Heh, Dragon Age 2.
I plan to buy it when I already see what mods have been made (probably 4 months after its release).

The 10-year story seems quite interesting. Knowing BioWare, they probably can pull this off nicely, though. This will definitely be pre-ordered the moment I have a credit card that doesn't expire before the game is out. The hard life of a BioWare fanboy... >_>

Generally speaking Bioware avoids carrying over any characters that can be killed/abandoned during the game. If they do carry her over she probably won't be a playable character in my game i ended up killing her i think, or making her leave. Kind of like Mass Effect 2 the only characters they carried over were the ones you couldn't kill or abandon (Garrus and Tali). Kaidan, Ashley and Wrex aren't playable in ME2.
Also this Hawke thing... our character won't carry over???

From what news has cropped up, there is going to be only one race in this game(human) and no origin stories to choose like in the first game. Your character will be called Hawke much like Shepard of Mass Effect. I don't think anything has been said about if you can tie it in with your save files from the first game.
Really, this is disappointing news for me. I really liked the whole origin story thing of the first DA. I also hope they don't go the Mass Effect 2 route with the equipment system... it was boring losing the level of customization in gear we had in ME1

Well, Mass Effect and Dragon Age are quite different games, so the ME2 inventory change should not affect this in any way.

In DA and ME1 you could "socket" or meld weapons with separate upgrades (or ammo) to have more customization on each weapon, but was scrapped in ME2 for a boring skill locked to your character's class. Not that far of a jump to speculate they might follow suit with their next game regardless of setting considering they already scrapped the origion stories for a Shepard-like character.
That said, it's just speculation on my part to drum up some conversation. I'll hold true judgment until I see more official news on the game.

It would be funny to call you new character Raven Hawke ^_^
At any rate, this skiping origins thing is really shitty... basically takes away lots of the game's replay value. And only human, WTF? Would've been nice of them to put extra stuff in it (new races, classes, specs etc) rather than take away some. On the other hand, I'm not much against the fact that maybe you can't import your char, if they pull out an epic story and character. They say you're gonna create the most important figure in the DA Universe and, as far as we know, the Grey Warden could be just another great hero.
At any rate I hope whatever flaws the game will have will be bitchslapped by the good parts of the game. I'm thinking this will happen, since there have been no Bioware games so far to let me down... I just hope EA doesn't rush things, as they usually do.

Well, you have to admit the original Mass Effect inventory was quite problematic as well. Human only is a bit of a disappointment, though. But on the other hand, it might allow BioWare to give us a better story. We'll see... While I love having plenty of races to choose from, knowing the race (and part of the name) of the PC can help to make the story involve you even more. Mass Effect isn't the only BioWare game to do this; KotOR was human only as well, so we could just as well look there for similarities. Not even going to mention Sonic Chronicles...

oh, there's no doubt that they will be able to bring us a better story now that they are focusing on a single origin and character. However, like umnut, mentioned this really takes away from the replay value of the game and what I felt was the best part of Dragon Age that set it apart from other RPGs. Now all it has is one story where the only deviation is likely to be conversation choices. Conversation choices that are likely to be blatantly obvious as to where they lead and which is the good and bad choice (the quality of moral choices though, could be a whole separate debate XD).
I am looking forward to some changes though, such as the rumblings/rumors of a new art/graphical style and a character that actually talks. That's one thing I'm glad it will be taking from Mass Effect. It takes a bit away from the RPG side of things, but it's nice nonetheless. (I had a female Shepard of course, Jennifer Hale is such a better voice actor =P)

You can still play as different classes, though, and with the length of the story (not necessarily gameplay time, though) there may be very different endings waiting for us depending on our choices. No origin stories, true, but other great RPGs have managed without as well. But yeah, we'll see when we find out more about the game.

The description says your character will become the most important character in all the lore... this can be either good or bad, as follows:
- you will get to be the most shizzle in the whole DA Universe
BUT
- this may mean that you cannot play as a mage (RAGE X-( ), since mages aren't allowed to have titles, lands, influence etc... this may branch into alot of possibilities, however, IF we will be able to play mages:
1) Be the first mage to rise up and fight Fereldan for the true independence of the magi, thus ensuring your place in history etc.
2) Be the most powerfull evil magic wielder and establish your reign of supreme domination, thus ensuring your place in history etc.
Etc, etc, etc... lots of possible outcomes, based on your choices... imo mages have ALOT more versatility in terms of roleplay than any other class.
Another thing I'd like to see is people actually reacting in some way if you choose to be a blood mage... and here are tons of other different possibilities of playing your char:
1) Be a righteous blood mage and show people that whatever school of magic you specialize in doesn't make you evil/good, but how you choose to use that power
2) Learn to manipulate every school and eventually conquer the Fade
3) Become omnipotent and create your own new world and set the stage for DA3 :D
These are just some of my idea...

Hawke can be a mage, here's a site you folks might find useful, Enjoy. It's a pretty big chunk of information about whats been confirmed in DA2.

Ok, so it's confirmed that mages will be playable, so there's hope that there will still be an Arcane Warrior spec :D
Oh, and since they say your char survived the darkspawn raid on Lothering, the only logical conclusion would be that Hawke is an apostate (if you're rolling mage).

Ehhh, I was really looking forward to the continuation of my origin story and searching for Morrigan, but I see that it is not whats gonna happen :-(
Developers assured, that she is a very important character in DA story and we will see her again, but in what circumstances I wonder... I see that after huge succes of ME2, Bioware wants do DA+ME game and probably are hoping for a great succes...

Depending on where exactly the 10 years of D2's story spans, She could poke her head out at some point I'm sure. From the sound of things, it is indeed canon that she has the child after all(and on my main file regardless) so I doubt they push her aside completely. It's just that there hasn't really been enough time for the child to have grown or anything. Maybe they will save that for DA3. Just to add fuel to the fire, make him the character you play as and how he uses he godlike power in side him is the big moral choice of the game =P
Anyways, with a bit more info now spreading about the game, I am looking forward to it more than I was during the first announcement. Despite my few annoyances already mentioned.

If the child is going to appear DA2 then what race will it be,I played a female elf and my bro was a male dwarf,so the child will be human in my case, but it can be ether dwarf or human for my brother. How are they going to decide and can the child be a human with stone sense.I can't wait for the great RPG's,The Witcher 2 has also a lot of potential.

In that post i think it says you do indeed load up your Origin save, so SOMETHING has to carry over. You remember all that stuff that they list at the end of Origins? Like what's her face in Redcliff i give her like a bunch of soverigns to get out of that deadbeat town and move away. Apparently bitch moves to Denerim and opens a brewery, when do i get to cash in on my investment?

So March 8th guys :)
I'm pretty excited over this despite not being able to use my original character.
I finished playing Origins as a female noble human rogue married to Alisteir who became King. How did you guys finish playing it?
What do you think of the changes they're making to the game?
I'm glad it will be connected to the decisions you've made in origins, though I'm slightly confused how we'll cross paths with old characters with your main character out of the picture, it makes me think Alisteir won't be around. ): which is terrible, because he was my favorite party member.
Oh, I'm also interested in what will come about his child with Morrigan.
