Have you ever played a Final Fantasy game before? Or any RPG that wasn't made in the past five years?

I don't see how the game was hard for you, unless your aren't used to RPGs. In RPGs, you must MASTER stratigies. Every [major] fight in an RPG requires strategy to get you out. If you played it again, you would most likely pick up on things you hadn't the first time. Same thing with playing it through a third time. Plus, you need to learn to manipulate the materia system to be trully beefy. Anyway, I think FF9 is the best, but that is a rare opinion indeed. I think its' cool that Sakaguchi himself favors IX the best. In a statement by the legendary RPG maker himself, FFIX was the closest to "what I think Final Fantasy is all about." [AT9 quickly ducks out to avoid attacks from FF7 fans].

Even though the graphics and battle system was mediocre, the purpose of an RPG is to tell a story and this certainly does so. All the elements that final fantasy should have are there. Also, the ending was GAR.

I thought FFVII was pretty good when I was 13, but it wouldn't hold up today, even disregarding its age.
Crisis Core, however, made me remember FFVII fondly. I think playing it again would ruin that.

Maybe he's trying to say that VIII is better? Or that he should play VIII first because VIII is easier?
Well, VIII in a way is easier, and in a way is harder. It's harder in that enemies level up with you, so you might never be able to walk around a field and easily kill anything that comes at you. But it's easier because bosses can only go so far, so if you get to a high level early on, all the bosses are easy as hell. Actually, I guess the enemies leveling up makes the game a lot easier, because you don't have to spend hours killing weenie level two enemies just to go up a level.

It's easily the best game out of the first Final Fantasy games. Some even consider it the best Final Fantasy, period.

Fuck yes it's worth it.
As much as I want them to remake FFVII, I also don't want them to..
I want people to experience the classic itself!

actually i played VI on my CFWed PSP but i suddenly lost all my saves so i had to start from scratch again..Sabin is the most badass character in all the FF series..yes..more badass than Cloud, Sephiroth, Squall, Tidus, and Zidane combined!!

all FFs are worth playing imo.
but 7 and tactics are the one that stands out for me.
here are some good rpgs for the ps1 that i really enjoyed
Xenogears, Tales of Destiny, Thousand Arms, Suikoden series and Parasite Eve 1 not so much 2 though.

I personally would recommend FF4 over this one.
But, FF7 fanboys/girls are everywhere.
FF7 isn't a bad game, I just feel that it's not all its hyped up to be. Cool materia system, which you can do amazing things with, but other than that... Pretty meh in my books.

Yeah that's right give hate to a game because everyone likes it.
It's probably not the storyline of the game which is completely epic because you start out on a big town and then it turns out that you have to save the planet. It's not the fact that all the characters have their particular storyline and some even go as far as have deep traumas. And it's definetely not that someone dies in the game.
Not to talk about the materia system and summons. I agree it has it's flaw mainly the ATTACK which was overpowered. But give the game what it deserves.
FFIII or FFVI is also a very very good game. The story in that game is epic.
I recommend both FFVI AND FFVII to someone who doesn't mind graphics. If you want something more up to date FFXII isn't too bad or you could just wait for FFXIII if you own a PS3.

You need to learn to manipulate the materia system to be trully beefy.I know of those challenges amigo, but they aren't something to mention [at first] to someone who is playing through the game the first time. ALL RPG's rely on strategy for the hard fights [a lot of the game can be choosing 'attack'] and none require more strategy than the 'NO MATERIA' challenge. Anyone that goes through the no materia challenge or the level one challenge relies on strategy a WHOLE lot more. On top of which, for those challenges to be relitively easy [you stated you could get through the game with no materia easily] you need to be very familiar with that particular battle system and the game itself. Being familiar with the game and battle system is a must. I'm not saying its' hard to be familiar with the system, but someone who is playing through the first time is going to be a lot less apt to beat the game without using materia than someone who has played the game several times through. I was being selective with what I said on the previous page. [AT9]
