Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

FFXIII didn't deliver as a Final Fantasy. Probably would have done well under a different name. I suppose we have to get used to drastic changes. *looks at FFXV*

13 has been one of my favorite Final Fantasy games. But that criticism automatically applies to 13-2 and Lightning Returns?

Most people were not excited/mad because they were wondering "Why does Final Fantasy XIII deserve a sequel?". This was due to the criticism from the first game.

When XIII-2 came out people were happy the battle system had been improved/fixed, but not all were playing it as some gave up on it because of the issues with the first installment. Some didn't like 13-2 because the whole time travel thing felt confusing to them.

The reason why Lightning Returns is getting negativity, even though it's not out yet, is because a lot of people think Square Enix is running out of ideas and are borrowing it from other previous Final Fantasy games while trying to milk it for all it's worth.

A good example is Lightning's new wardrobe mechanic. Most have said it's no different than the Garment Grid from Final Fantasy X-2 where you have to equip your female party with outfits in order to boost their stats and abilities.

In my honest opinion, it's made some mistakes in the previous titles, but also learned from them and improved upon it. The main thing it comes down to, for any game, is you either love it or you don't. I personally love the games.

Lightning Returns is the last game to end the trilogy and you know what, I'm already awaiting it's release with my pre-order.

OK, this is really getting to me now, so I have to say something:

What exactly DEFINES a Final Fantasy game? With every game, and every generation, we're getting different standards, so how exactly did it "not deliver", because I remember having a complete blast in my short playthrough of it.

This is just for 13, though. I didn't like 13-2.

The standard of a great Final Fantasy game is: captivating story, compelling characters, intuitive battle system, exploration or in other words everything that's not in XIII. It's not only my opinion, most of the fans who were waiting impatiently for the next episode after an already dissapointing XII think the same.(great game imo, story not too much).

I'm not making things up, Square Enix saw the backlash from fans and proceeded to make a XIII-2 that didn't make the same mistakes.

I played Final Fantasy X first, and THAT blew my mind.

The main problem that I saw with FFXIII was that, in my honest opinion, it had a great story, but was tempered due to the strict linearity the game had. Introduced an interesting combat system, which I thought was great and glad it saw some improvement in XIII-2.



Some characters, in XIII, could've used some tweaking, personality-wise, but they weren't too bad.

Hopefully, SE finish the series on a strong note with Lightning Returns.

Also they resized her boobs to be bigger. Not that it's noticeable but they wanted them to jiggle.

If by cringe you mean boner, then yes.

The first one was okay. Haven't played the second one.

Well, I guess there's a bit more incentive to get this game now, and I'm not referring to her boobs being a bit bigger, (I kinda saw the cat ears coming.)

What I'm still wondering is what Noels role will be this time around, and not sure if anyone has seen it by now, but I think Hope aged BACKWARDS this time around. It'll be interesting to see how THAT happened.

That's cool news altough it's compelling me to buy it full price :/... Unless it's downloadable without owning the game.

It might be for PS3. I remember downloading some of the PS-All Stars characters the first couple of weeks they were free and I didn't have the game.

The Japanese demo is now up. Go download it if you have Japanese PSN account.

I just finished playing it and the battle system felt a lot better in my opinion. I wasn't just mashing auto-battle the entire time. I'm actually kind of looking forward to this game now.

Has anybody else been having trouble trying to order the NA Collector's Edition from Square-Enix's online store (which is, apparently, the only place you can order it)? More than a few people have been having difficulties, judging from the responses on SE's blog article about said Collector's Edition. I really, really want to get it, especially because of that sweet looking pocket watch.

Edit - 1/9/2014: So I FINALLY managed to get it pre-ordered. I just hope there weren't any screw ups and I wind up getting charged more than once, which would be bad.
