Mass Effect 3

I'm a little worried about this. If it's based around Earth and concentrating galactic forces there, I can't see there being much travel and exploration, which in the variety it presents is one of the strengths of Mass Effect. That basically means a little bit of banter with the council and a whole lot of visceral firefights with your alien compadres. Now the combat is decent, but it's not what you play the games for. It seems to me like this would hugely limit the range of content, too, in so far as there can't be much variety in the dialogue and side-stories you encounter. Travelling between cities to help soldiers out could get very samey. They're trying to make Halo 3.5 so as to boost the saleability of the game. :|
That said, Halo 3.5 by Bioware could be awesome. I do like lollercookiez idea, and it would be interesting to see how the old crew, particularly Ashley, would come together to contribute.
I'm guessing that most likely, not everything is happening on Earth. I would assume that Earth is the first planet the Reapers targeted because Commander Shepard is an Earthling. However, judging from what the the soldier said, where Commander Shepard is out looking for allies, then I highly believe that C.S. is out in space. Meaning there's still a good amount of exploration to do (Though it seems kind of weird when some machine aliens are nuking the shit out of your home planet).
I believe that most likely you'll step foot on Earth for one skirmish or something, but most likely the main battle will be in space. I just don't see any weapons stationed on the planet that will be able to do any damage to a Reaper. Most likely the climatic battle will be in the side.
Besides, I'm actually more interested in how all your decisions will play out. I mean there are a lot of choices you made in ME1 that didn't really show up in ME2. Plus all the ones you made in ME2 including which, if any, squadmates dying. That's a hell of a lot variables. I would fucking love to see how it all plays out.

Yeah, how all the variables from the earlier games will play out is interesting, especially the choice in the end of ME 1, where you decide to save the Council or not. First i figured that "Yeah, the council won't believe that the reaper army is coming, so you'll have to gather allies, despite the bigotry from the Council thinking that you have some kind of hubris." then I realized that you can put up a human council, and that council would most likely support Shepard. So my pessimistic way of thinking was thankfully rendered obsolete.
I'm psyched, but still kinda disappointed at the "Save the earth" thing. My bad hunch says it will be way too focused around Earth.

It has a War of the Worlds-esque vibe to it. Should be fun regardless, I hope they don't focus solely on earth though. I will rage if Tali isn't a squadmate.

You know, with the possibility of Shephard dying at the end of ME2, I'm curious to see how ME3 will continue with that game save. Will you get to play as a whole new character? Or will Shephard once again piss in God's eye and be miraculously brought back to life?

One more thing I'm interested in, is if you import your Shepard, do you still have your upgrades/levels/skills?

But I'm certain that Lair of the Shadowbroker does have an effect on ME3.

Dont read this if you haven't played both games. SPOILERS!!!!

I am really glad though that you get to go to Earth though. I was getting annoyed with people saying: "lets get a drink on Earth some time" "Next time i see you will be on Earth" and crap. the most they gave me was being able to go to the moon but it wasn't the same.

Word is they started working on ME 3 before ME 2 even came out. Ofcourse they did.It has become very convenient lately...
Ubisoft was already working on AC:B when they were finishing AC2, Bioware was already working on DA2 when they were finishing DAO and NOW Bioware saying that they already started working on ME3 when they were finishing ME2...
I can say that THIS saying is very popular in Gaming Industry lately...

Well of course, it is natural to do so. Not to mention that in this case, when making ME2 and ME1 Bioware was already having to plan out and work on ME3 since your choices in the first two games effect the final game. Also, The DLC for ME2 is being treated as a "testing grounds" of sorts. They are trying things, like vehicles again, in ME2 and are going to put them in ME3. All this is technically "work" that goes into the video game.
Also, when you've already made two games in one series, the process of making the third is going to be a lot faster since you know what you are doing. I don't think it is too early for one either. 2 years is a good amount of time, any longer and people either start forgetting or start complaining. Q4 2011 can also mean January 2012 since January is still Q4 of 2011.

Brilliant :) Looking forward to this. Not too sure about the new story whatever it may be, but definitely looking forward to it.

Indeed. BioWare confirmed at the release of ME2 that the story for ME3 was already all planned out. They had already knew that they were making a 3 part epic. Since they already finished the engine for ME2, which I believe they will be using again for ME3, it really cuts down on the development time.
As for the release date, it most likely will be during the Holiday 2011 season. But if we're really lucky, then we might get it as a summer blockbuster.

Yeah, they just confirmed that the PS3 port runs on the engine of ME3, so not only they are testing in DLC, but the port as well. I think its great this way, the more experienced they are with the engine, the better will be the sequel.
