Hi
just get the game after seeing the fakku panel at Otakuthon
i think i catch the most of the game mechanic, but still don't understand some point
1- what mean the number after the Blue, Yellow, and Green commands ?
2- what mean the cost and power after the prison button?
3- what mean the SAT. number at?
4- all command regardless of the color use 1 action count right ?
and last is that normal that i get to much number of command, to think about doing everything or is done that way to replay more time. use other command in a re-play etc...
thanks for your time
and Sengoku Rance jump on top of my eroge list ;)
ps sorry for my bad English im french

i can answer some questions
1. blue commands uses construction talent. basically the two you'll see is increase power and prepare for next battle. green commands uses search talent. usually looking for dungeons and such. yellow commands uses negotiation talent, usually in recruiting special commanders and such. these commands have a number besides them which is the talent points required. when you use these commands, you'll have to assign commanders for the task. you'll need to have enough talent points from the commanders you assigned to the task as the talent point required to finish the action.
2. national power is the amount of power you can have. the more you have, the more troops/commanders you can get. you can increase this by using the blue command to increase nation power in a territory or conquer more territory. cost is the amount of national power you have to pay for your commanders and troops.
3. i don't know either
4. ya, unless it says otherwise
and if it's your first game, slow down and take your time.

I have difficulty using Daemontools, but I did it.
I have played several different times just to get the first game, but each time I run into a dead end when I dont have enough elite troops, lack of numbers in my units, etc.
I understand HOW to get characters, enlarge the maximum numbers for units, and costs. I dont understand quite simply how to succeed. to get elite characters to fight for you, you need to beat most of them, which seems to be pretty low(20% seems about rite) and until you capture them your forces are lacking and your enemies are not. The more characters you capture the better you do, so you can beat and capture more.
There is alot of saving and loading trying to get various strong captains, while at the same time NOT losing battles and conquering territory.
Time is the major issue, as if you had enough you could upgrade your unique characters with higher statistics, larger numbers, and skills.
This is a great game, but I just keep getting to a dead end where i dont have enough strong troops to fight and capture. And without some king of untimed sandbox mode to get my troops stronger its very difficult.
This isnt something I have EVER done before but does anyone know where I can find cheats, save files, and the like for a better start?

chaosvsorder I dont' quite understand your problem cuz you already start with two good footmen units, two of them are, Shibata and Maeda Keiji granted, Maeda Keiji gotta go through two satisfication bonus events to be strong. But Shibata is already good right away, just need a little bit of buffing and speed textbooking.
Heck even Hachisuka which normally is terrible is now playable after I got his defense up to six. Takeda is going to be strong no matter what, Oh and NPC factions can have up to 60 commanders while you only can have up to 30 commanders. In fact they need that many commanders because they set their units up terribly.
If the majority of the attack coming at you are melee and not half melee/ranged. You can stall that fight out for a win if you have to by focusing on only the front row. Or u could overkill everyone in there attack while only half of the enemy could engage you.

ya, your starting commanders get outclassed later on. so i would only buy troops for rance and shibata. shibata has enough defense to be useful past the midgame and after that can be used to operate battlepermit. but there are a few top tier commanders you can grab early on.
Uruza - second zeth reinforcement commander. one of the best commanders in the game, give her some gifts and get her accurate shot move. you don't need to buy troops for her at all for her to be useful
Natori - get her automatically after you conquer miko institute. her miko storm 2 is pretty hax. again, you don't have to spend any money on buying troops for her.
Sanhime - gotten after you conquer mikawa. starts with autoheal, all guard, and good stats. definitely a huge step up from shibata. you can upgrade her to spear attack 1 and 2 for some serious damage output. buy lots of troops for her.
Kenshin - gotten after you conquer the uesugi house. this is the truly best front line unit in the game. combined with Uruza's accurate shot you will take 2 action points from enemy commanders, which will usually finish fights before they even start. also has commander charge and high stats. Uesugi is rather easy to conquer so you should try to get her asap. buy lots and lots of troops for her.
there's also 2 warrior commanders with commander charge you can capture, one in mikawa and the other one in miko institute. there's also a special female monk unit you can capture in miko institute that's good. but i wouldn't worry too much on trying to capture these, there's alot of other frontline units you can replace them with later on.
my advice is to focus on putting together one really strong team for offense, then 1 or 2 secondary teams for defense. also make use of battle permits when you get them.

Ranmaru and Katsuie arent too bad and are excellent early on but require alot of work to get stat boosts to make them more useful later on(defense for Ranmaru and Offense and speed for Katsuie).
After defeating the Tokugawa, capturing 3 of the Racoon-dogs(Including Tadakatsu Honda) I get 2 powerful units from Senhime and Tadakatsu.
I use Satisfaction points to get the 3 Zeth Commanders(the 2 magic units and the powerful Strategist), and capture Natori from the Miko institute(powerful Miko unit), thought i dont think I can capture ANY of the powerful commanders from them while they are still with the Miko Institute(I tried to get Himiko, Goemon, and the strong swordsmen for an hour and none of them would be captured)
I got a non-unique but powerful Monk(Himiko from the Mikos) while fighting the Tanegashima, and Yuzumi the musketeer sniper(instant kills, even if you reduce her down to 1) before conquering.
I reached a dead-end when i got to the Takeda, after beating them down to one sub-territory, the super generals appeared and overwhelmed me no matter what I tried( managed to beat the ninja general once).
Now I am trying to go back several turns before starting war with Takeda to fight the Uesugi and Hojo(which Theoretically would give me enough elite troops to beat the Tekada before their super-generals appear.
I AM doing better, much better than my first try but still reach dead ends, like waiting for the Takuga to appear so I can fight and capture their 4 commanders, or the above mentioned Takeda. I will keep trying.
----------------------------------------------------
One thing I discovered is that you must super-rush to conquer because at a certain point events quickly end up at a dead end where the Honnoji Temple events happen freezing any possibility of capturing or conquering meaning in my first game I had absolutely no chance against the demon army/shimazus.

Ranmaru isn't worth it. swordsman troops are rather expensive to maintain since they cost 4 each to heal. without commander charge or something special they aren't worth it. even that one eye dude isn't worth fielding even with all 8-9 stats because it's just more efficient to field spearman.
anyways, the best team imo is
Kenshin, leila, natori, uruza, omachi, and another top tier frontline unit. this team will guarantee massive pwnage

I keep doing better but I still reach dead-ends and have to go back 20 turns.
In my current game I conquered the Hara, Ashikage, Tokugawa, Tenshi Sect, Miko Institue, Mikawa, Akashi and Tenagashima, then Uesugi, and Hojo shortly before 5 seals broken. After that the game locks so I have to find Kouhime and then Attack Honnoji.
The question is, can I capture the Takeda, One-Eyed clan, Mori Clan, and Takuga very shortly after Honnoji so I have enough Forces to fight the Demon Army/Shimazu Clan?
I also need to go fight through a Dungeon to acquire Soun Hojo quickly.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh this game is good but hard. I have only found one game as hard as Sengoku Rance.

what's going on? are you not using battle permits?
Takeda and one-eyed clan are tough, but they come with the best commanders. one-eyed will leave you alone if you leave them alone. takeda and the rest will eventally join the demon army and attack you.

Byako kills everyone I send against him, and I cant seem to get the Permit event before Honnoji Temple.
Because of that I have only even seen the battle permits in my first and weakest game attempt.

Send Hojou Soun? (I forgot the name since I've finished the game five times at least, Kenshin's ending is pwn and best) against Byako to kill him. Or else, you can send the boy whose female companion is the Demon King to +3 levels.
Your first playthrough will be the hardest since events will lock you down, it won't be that hard during the second playthrough. Do NOT attack Takeda for your first because they'll eat you for dinner. Follow to the wiki as much as possible, you could try out stuff later on since freedom is impossible for first playthrough. Battle permits are for pussies, but yeah they are useful. Although I don't remember ever using them for anything except recapture territories.
Some units are simply not worth catching (Like the 3 whatevers you wasted your Satisfaction Points for, those things are bloody hard to get you know). Buy units for Natori since she actually deals more bowman damage than anyone, for some weird reason. On your second playthrough, Takeda's tactician Saneda is the one you should aim for, since he gives insane stat boosts and can 'turn the tide'. You could try to challenge their Calvary charge, but unless you enjoy being trampled over don't delay the conquering of Takeda. Rush them, rush them! If you could do it quick enough you won't meet the generals. On the other hand, if you're a maniac like me, you can try to defend seven times in a row until you get whatever's sitting in your hands done.

i disagree, liela and uruza are well worth the satisfaction points to get them. don't buy troops for natori, she doesn't need it. her miko storm 2 will do the same damage even with 1 unit. the one you should go for on second playthough is omachi. saneda is good but omachi is downright broken.
once you get battle permits, you only need one attacking team. basically let your battlepermits take care of all the battles until the last one and on your turn use your attack team to grab the territory. so you'll be getting one territory per turn when you get them. if you're having trouble, just hold out until you get battle permits and things should turn around fast. just make sure you have some troops set aside for battlepermits and a very strong attacking team.

Ever since I first got Uruza I have gotten her using satisfaction in every game since.
I have managed to rush some things, but succeeded.
I quickly used Ran to find Soun Hojo in the dungeon(he still hasnt joined me more than a dozen turns later), found kouhime, and attacked Honnoji which was much easier now that i had various strong characters like Kenshin.
Immediately after that I conquered Takeda in 4 turns(on the 5th the 4 super generals appear) and Recruited Tourin Sanada(VERY good Tactician) then rushed to conquer Takuga(the Honey terrorists I paid for but they never attacked before i conquer Takuga)and after that recruited Go and Ryoma from there and have all but 2 sub territories for the Mori clan(Yamato gets taken by the Demon Army and Chinu died on me).
I think I should give up on trying to Uncurse Motonari, as that would require 4 actions to conquer the last of Izumo, search for the dungeon, get the Cursed information from Ryoma and to actually get through the dungeon before I get Blitzed by the 5 Shimazu generals.
The last 2 reinforcements units are stuck because the Demon Army appeared and took over the Bridge.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An odd occurence during the Shimazu Blitz is that sometimes the game gives the 5 generals 1 or 2 sub territories when they attack for each general.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a big issue, I am now stuck taking one sub territory a turn(because the 5 shimazu generals are in 3000+ units, defending if I attack more than once per turn) and Gigai/Suzaku now appears and has locked me.
Soun Hojo is nowhere to be found, despite capturing Ran, doing the Oil Field dungeon to save Soun, and he wont come back leaving me in a situation where I lose one of my captains. Why hasn't Soun appeared?
