They're engaged, so even if they're apart, they're still together, in a sense. And maybe one day, he'll get transferred back, or she'll transfer there with him or something, and they can be together again. Other than that, I'm sure they could always visit one another and if she gets pregnant, she can take time off work and stay with him.
