Adult nursery...Well, I suppose some adults also need to be 'taken care' of. I found it interesting that his first reaction was to leave for work.
Still, maybe he wasn't kidding when he said he felt like the sign appeared out of nowhere. Maybe it only manifests in front of people like him who feel exhausted with work and life and whatnot. He even affirms this at the end, mentioning he can't see it anymore.
'Dropping the burden of adulthood', though. Well, only for a short while, I suppose. I think he's one of the ones that actually got rehabilitated, in a way, so rather than just stay there forever, he decided to go out and do something with his life, quitting his job and finding one where he feels more fulfilled at. He may have lost his place at the adult nursery, but he's back to being a happy, functioning member of society while Mama-Sensei continues to seek out those who need help.
